Okay, a really severe problem with the magic carpet: it can go up, but it won't go down - unless you want to die, that is. I read that the controls function as in Creative mode, where you only need to double-tap your jump key, but it only made the carpet ascend more - does anyone know what might be wrong?

double tap the jump key in creative make you fall not go down, try using the shift key
There are numerous ways to taint the aura of a chunk (and the surrounding one's too):

But the taint does not really spread quickly in other chunk, so it remain very local, and brazier of souls does not really help.

I've got an issue. Minor, but it's annoying me nonetheless. I've researched an Eldritch Keystone, made it active, and then went to an obelisk to use it, but when I place the Keystone in, Minecraft freezes and crashes. I can hear the noise of the room opening, but nothing else happens after that. Soon enough, I go to black screen. It might be because I'm using Sonic Ether's Shaders, but can anybody help with this problem? I really want to get into those rooms. D:
Would it be possible to get an explanation as to why the Eldritch Monoliths are full of taint? I was playing this mod in technic pack, and a Millenaire villager destroyed one. Came back later and the whole area was tainted.
Also, while playing this mod i felt like I was the Shinra Electric Power Company.
Does the cfg file stop naturally occurring taint on a new world?? I find it really everywhere and very annoying. After 3 hours of trying to contain a valley of taint with cobble I've given up. If I can't get it to stop I'll need to deactivate the mod...natural taint spreading at absurd speeds isn't a fun gameplay mechanic...it's just annoying.
I was playing AMCO, and found a perfect seed for lots of castles together. Sadly, a HUGE tunnel of taint comes under then, spreading so fast its ridiculous. Since I tested five times, and all the times, the taint was there, it is pretty safe to say the seed is tainted.
The seed is "O Feiticeiro". Try and tell me if it works with Thaumcraft alone.
For some reason, I cannot use alumentum as a fuel in the arcane furnace. I does nothing in regards to smelting, boosting a crucible, or both simultaneously, as well as with and without a vis supply. However, it will work in a vanilla furnace.

MokahTGS, yes, the config file has an option to disable taint patches occuring on world generation. It's under "General" : aura.taintspawn=0 <- that line. Set to 0 and no tainted patches will generate with the world.
meatball, your version of Thaumcraft isn't the latest one. Maybe updating would help?
This is a door that has been combined with a portable hole, when the door is closed the wall it is attached to is soild when open it worked like a portable hole. if you are inside somewhere and the door closes there is no door on the otherside.
A vis generator:
Unlike a thaum generator this generates vis from bluetricity/buildcraft/industrial craft power, the initial part would be crafted as follows:
= vis tanks or conduit
A generator has three areas open in it's gui the top and bottom would use thaumometers the middle would be a focus. The outside power would cause the fields around the thaumometers to expand and interact with each other causing (among other things) vis to be created in the tanks or conduits that are apart of the generator. A focus could be anything from a egg to a diamond to a arcane singularity or quicksilver. Due to the magical forces the foci would slowly be changed to something else ie a egg might endup as a mooshroom egg, a diamond a twisted diamond, quicksilver might just cook off. Power input to a generator would have differant effects low power would generate 4 vis and 1 taint slower than a condensor but no ill effects. Medium power input would cause random effects ie chickens, pigs, items, zombie pig men appearing near the generator with a slow increase of aura and taint 4:1 as well as vis and taint generated. High power would cause anything living nearby to get killed as well as causing the aura and taint in increase quickly. Very high power would cause the generator to have a self sustaining reaction leading to a arcane singularity like explosion covering the local area in taint.

Hey, Azanor. Big fan of your mod. I've been playing it in my test Minecarft for like 8 hours straight, but I can't install it in my Minecraft that I use for play and when I tried to change the configs I got the out of bounds exception. And than when I started eliminating the mods that were conflicing (buildcraft, IC2, EE, Laser Mod, even some parts of RP2 but I changed them out manually) I removed ThaumCraft and Put back other mods in. Can you add AutoAssign option in the config please. I know I'm probably the only one who's gonna ask you for this, but other people have the same problem. Oh, and I have Forge Latest Version and 4096Fix. Thank you in advance.

my computer has a 2.2 ghz dualcore prosessor and 4 ram. minecraft ran smothly when it was in alpha and i didnt have any problems,but the came beta... the 1.9 prerelease made minecraft laggy and the full version turn out to be laggy too... the problem is still not solved and jeb is saying that minecraft will require MORE resources to run! minecraft has been going downhill for me since its getting laggy all the time... i can play portal 2 fine with everything on full,but minecraft lags out my pc
thaumcraft 2 is a very nice mod and i love to play it,but thaumcrft 2 has a few things that makes the game even laggier.(NOT a problem) imagine minecraft1.3 + all your mods, it will be laggy!
