Out of interest, is there anyway to use this to find slime chunks in SMP.....im guessing not because of the whole seed spoofing on MC servers now, but I figured I might as well ask and see if anyone knows a way.
I'm pleased to announce JourneyMap 1.5.2 for Minecraft 1.2.4 is ready for download. In addition to getting everyone with Minecraft 1.2.4 happily mapping again, there are a couple of nice new mapping details:
Biome coloration now at the block level instead at the chunk level (smoother transitions)
Ice is now semi-transparent and reveals the terrain beneath
There are several bugfixes and stability improvements as well. I hope you enjoy it!
The only fly in the ointment is that I still don't have a workaround for multiworld multiplayer servers. Your maps will still overwrite each other if you are on a server that uses WorldPortal or MultiVerse. I play on servers that use these, so believe me I'm trying everything I can think of to solve this problem. We really need the Minecraft server to make the world seed available again so I can tell when you've teleported.
Thanks so much !
you rock !
My friend and I are eternally grateful thanks thanks thanks thanks thanks !!!

The seed spoofing just prevents JourneyMap from knowing when you've switched worlds.
If you are near a slime mob and you have 'show monsters' on, you should see them on your map.
Just curious but what's the difference between your mod and Rei's?
Great question. Rei's is a great mod and has been around a long time. Last I checked, here were the main differences:
Rei has an in-game minimap while you play, or a larger map in the center on demand. VS
JourneyMap has an in-game full-screen map, or a live map in a web browser. Handy for a second monitor if you have one.
Rei shows you where you are. VS
JourneyMap shows you where you are, plus everywhere you've been (since you started using JourneyMap, anyway). JourneyMap also lets you save your explored world map to a file.
Rei uses the current real-time lighting VS
JourneyMap has a daylight map mode and a night time map mode. You can switch on demand.
Rei does cave mapping VS
JourneyMap does cave mapping, but it can be toggled off so you can see the ground above in either daylight map mode or night time map mode.
Rei has waypoints VS
JourneyMap has needed waypoints for awhile now and the author should really get around to that.
Rei's mobs radar can be disabled by server admins who want to keep people from cheating in hardcore mode VS
JourneyMap needs to do the same, and it's on the to-do list.
My original goal was to provide a map in a web browser for 2-monitor scenarios, but then I added an in-game map for the other 90% of computer users I've never set out to replace or compete with any other mapping mod, and I know a number of JourneyMap users also use Rei's minimap.
So the question to JourneyMap fans is: Do you want JourneyMap to provide a minimap option, or are you happy with the way things are?
If enough people say they want JourneyMap to have a minimap for the sake of convenience, I'll do it. Let me know. That said, Rei's is a great mod and I encourage everyone to support it.
ok, n00b question, but how the heck do i use this? i downloaded it and have no idea where to go from there... >_<
No sweat. Sounds like you stopped half-way down the page after the download. Keep reading and you'll get to a section called "Install JourneyMap", then after that's done, you'll get to "Try It Out".

oh, thanks. saw the banner ad and assumed that was the end of the page...much apreciated! although figuring out how to get modloader to work was a bit of work!
EDIT: is it possible to get this mod to work on a server? or would each individual just have to mod their client?

Glad you got it worked out. ModLoader is definitely intimidating the first time. Personally, I use MCPatcher to inject ModLoader and enable HD texture pack goodness like Misa's.
JourneyMap is client-only for now, but I've started work on a server-plugin to provide multi-world support and hardcore support. It will probably grow into a server-side mapper someday, but that's a lot of work and a long way out.
If you are fluent in something other than English, would you provide a translation for JourneyMap? It's easy to do and only takes about 15 minutes? Here's how:
Minecraft gets updated on Wednesday, so if you can give me your translation by then, I can put it into the JourneyMap update for that release. Thanks !
(Mojang put out a prerelease last week for the modding community, so all the hard work was done before the official release.)
Do you like using JourneyMap?
I plan to continue supporting and updating JourneyMap as long as there is a decently-sized group of people using it. If you're happy with JourneyMap, let me know with an upvote. It's a cheap and easy way to let me know you care!
I would love if you could make JourneyMap a non-client-mod counterpart. Something that can render a 3D map of all pre-loaded chunks and has an interface of click-and drag - a sort of Google Maps for Minecraft.

I love it now however, thanks!
To clarify a bit, you can click-and-drag now both in-game and in your web-browser. So it sounds like what you're asking for is "map everything that already exists, rather than just what you've explored since installing JourneyMap". Correct? (As a client mod that's feasible for single-player games, but not multiplayer.)
As for a 3D / orthagonal rendering, I don't have any near-term plans for that, but it's not out of the question. The key is whether it could be done without killing game performance, and that might be a tough one.
Is there a way I can have this without using it in-game and only through browser, so i don't need to install it as a mod? Just by selecting the world and loading it.

Only if Notch hires me to put it directly into Minecraft

I'd hire you if I was notch lol this thing rocks ! I don't understand the reason for not having a map like this ingame ? the whole creating a map **** is so stupid anyways hope he doesn't read that
Thanks so much !
you rock !

Sorry about that, I forgot to add the older version link to the downloads page. That's fixed. To save you a click:
There isn't one at the moment. It's on my long-term wish list, however.

You are quite welcome

Hi all,
If you are fluent in something other than English, would you provide a translation for JourneyMap? It's easy to do and only takes about 15 minutes? Here's how:
