Just wanted to let everyone know there's a new beta out: JourneyMap 1.5b4 for Minecraft 1.1. The 1.5 beta is a roll-up of a lot of new stuff, so you might want to check it out.
I've just improved the bump-mapping algorithm I was using, so now contoured terrain will render more accurately.
Another of the newer features is Multiverse support - you should be able to switch worlds on the same server and not have maps overwrite each other now. (The only time this won't work is if you switch between two worlds with the same seed on the same server.)
Provided there aren't any serious problems with the beta, I'll be doing a full release in the next few days.
When you have been walking around for a while the map will get kind of big.
Is there a way to save the entire map instead of just what you see on the screen?
Right now I have to cut and paste a lot of images to get a complete map.
Grab the Beta 1.5b5 (link at top of thread) and Save Map will get the whole thing. The upcoming release version of JM 1.5 will have that functionality if you don't want to use the beta.
I'm not making this generally available yet because I need feedback on how the new features are working, especially the migration of your old map files. If you're interested in trying something that might still have some bugs to work through, please give it a spin and let me know. Thanks!
Is there any way to also show when in a server to show the chat too? maybe even respond?
That occurred to me the other day but I haven't prioritized it. Showing the chat as an overlay should be doable. It might have to be read-only, but I'll take a look at it. Please open a ticket for it so I can keep track. Thanks :smile.gif:
This is the first (and hopefully only) Release Candidate for JourneyMap 1.5. Please post on the beta thread immediately if you have any issues with it; without any real bug reports this will become the JM 1.5 public release.
What's in it since JourneyMap 1.0.1 you ask?
New feature: In-game map display. Press 'J' to open, 'J' or 'Esc' to close.
Better bump-mapping shows terrain contours more clearly
Snow, torches, fences, gates, and nether fence now show on map
Biomes change the color of grass, foliage, and water
Nether maps and End maps now show terrain contours
Added support for playing on MP servers using MultiVerse or similar mod
Improved cave mapping in situations where skylights (glass) are overhead
"Save" button now returns everything explored so far, not just the current view
New Feature: Multiple configurable properties in new journeyMap.properties file
Log file name is now journeyMap.log (was log.txt)
Simplified world info section in browser, added vertical slice when underground and showing caves
Realistic cave lighting is now configurable in the journeyMap.properties file. (Set render.cavelighting.enabled=false to treat everything as fully lit.)
Announcement of JourneyMap being loaded is now configurable in the journeyMap.properties file (Set announce.modloaded=false to disabled)
Added wolves to nearby monsters shown on map
Restored 1:1 (pixel:block) as the minimum map scale
Bug fix: Handle world names with special characters
Bugfix : Ensuring clean shutdown of threads when player quits a world to eliminate crashes when switching worlds.
So using this I can make maps that will show a multiplayer server while offline?
Sorry, this is for use while connected to a world and playing. There are a number of great tools already out there for offline mapping like Techtonica.

Release Candidate 2 has a minor update to fix Nether and End mapping in multiplayer:
Glad to hear it! I'm prepping the new website with updated docs, etc. Unless somebody reports a showstopper bug, the RC2 codebase will be the basis of the JM 1.5 public release.
Finally, a map mod that doesn't require bukkit. Although i prefer dynmap, i don't like bukkit as the bukkit port of smp mods are complete crap
Yeah, DynMap is pretty sweet. I wrote this mod because I didn't want to depend on a server plugin or wait for the admins to run Techtonica once a week / month. Impatience has an upside, I guess :biggrin.gif:
Hmmm, I just noticed that the Skyland map on my Bukkit server looks strange.
Earlier the sky between the islands were black.
But now there are green squares (chunks) instead.
It looks like the chunks are missing.

Ah, I thought your use of "Skyland" was an obsolete synonym for the old Aether. Now that I see what you're talking about, I'm guessing you are talking about the unreleased Sky Dimension? I don't have a specific rendering algorithm provided for that yet. There are probably some chunk heightmap issues that are unique to it. I've had to handle the Nether and the End differently from each other for the same reasons. If you like, open a Ticket and I'll put it on the list of things to do.
very cool idea.
