I loved this mod and seeing it grow. I hope Mojang realizes how their EULA will eventually kill off Minecraft since most people would only buy ranks/items from networks/servers if it had a non-cosmetic advantage.
Now, the reason Mojang is going to try and enforce this EULA, is because that they want people to go to Realms since they possibly had a large decrease in sales with the accounts.
I notice that they would probably hunt you down since you're one of the most popular mod creators, but there are thousands of other servers out there that don't enforce the EULA. Sure Mojang could blacklist their IP so the Logins won't work on that specific server, but the opposing party could just as easily change their IP without a problem. The one thing you could be 100% sure about is that they'll never give a lawsuit to these small servers. Mojang would actually lose money if they did that, and I'm pretty sure their financial advisers aren't stupid.
One way such networks/servers could get past the EULA is by splitting their playerbase into different servers for minigames like Mineplex did.
Eventually, since they split their playerbase, they'll lose all income. That way, Mojang effectively takes out the host and server.
Mojang would think that people would go to realms, but as long as the LAN worlds still exist, and knowing most of the players in Minecraft are children, no one would use realms. If Mojang removes it, players could just mod the game to re-enable them. Nothing in the EULA is against that. In fact, adding LAN to Minecraft would be something a beginner in Java could do.
In the end, if Mojang doesn't stop enforcing the EULA they would die.
they are explicitly saying your mod is ok as long as you don't charge!!! Please reopen it, otherwise give it to someone else to rehost if you don't feel like taking care of it? I'm sure there will be people who would love to see this mod continue running and would be willing to host it.

Sorry for any confusion with support tweets. Everyone is on the same page now. According to the recent blog posts, Mojang would like to keep capes as Mojang-given only. I know it's a bit unusual for the company to moderate which kind of content is allowed in mods, but I've confirmed with some higher-ups that this is their wish.
Do you think minecraft will get any more cosmetic items in the future Marc? It might be nice now that servers are going to be using them for donations..

if this mod can't give out capes, then optifine can't either. you still get an optifine cape for donating.

Just make your own cape mod.

They tweeted again after that with a contradicting answer...

this mod, and all others like it, are dead now, thanks to the EULA.
