iv been looking for shields, but basiclly once u can hold a sword as well, thats when ill download. good looking mod tho, 100% support.
editing mechanic's for 2 weapons wouldnt be easy for a new modder like yourself, perhaps seeking out a more experienced modder for some tips would be a good move for you now, since u have already produced a mod thats getting a good response.
Nice mod! it would be nice if you could equip the shield so u may have other items out while still being protected, which could be helpful for things like, eating while running away from a creeper, or being able to have it while you have your sword out too, for ultimate safety while fighting off stuff. Just suggestions. Hope you continue to update it :biggrin.gif:
Yeah, the next version is going to add a spiked shield which acts as both a shield and a sword. By the way, to everyone, this suggestion was originally made by Bstar11.
Yeah, I wasn't actually aware that that mod had shields. I've never used it personally. Those seem way more thought out and well-designed though, and if you have that mod, you're probably better off using them.
If you add a shield slot in your inventory (to equip) and have a button that activates shield (maybe like shift or ctrl) so you can block things.
Maybe in the distant future I might add a feature like that. But for now, I will just add spiked shields in order to attack and block at the same time.
Just to people who have the more health mod this is incomaptible with this mod since they both edit sz.class though there is a way to have the compatible by installing shiels first then the more health mod but when you hold the shield in your hand you still get the same damage as you normaly would so you can only pick either one of these mods
Thanks for pointing that out, I'll need to add it to the main post. sz.class is the EntityPlayer class, and it makes sense that both of these mods need to modify it. I'm sorry for the inconvenience, but as far as I know there isn't a way for me to avoid modifying this class. If there is some kind of hook for this in Modloader or something, feel free to let me know!
Is there any way you can make the player hold the shield in the left hand so you can use a sword and shield simultaneously like a real knight or warrior would do? It's a great idea but would be truly awesome if it worked more naturally.
Maybe later, but for now you'll just have to do with the spiked shields coming in the next update.

Yeah, I can't do something like that right now, but I think it's possible. I've seen it done before. I will be adding spiked shields in the next update, which is pretty much a workaround for the issue of not being able to hold more than one thing.

So instead of right clicking with your sword when you see a threat, you would scroll over to your shield so that you can still move quickly. Just a thought.

There is a mod for that actuaclly! its called the dual wield mod though it hasn't been updated for minecraft yet (its only on 1.5 i think) but i heard that a guy named asakofdountus updated it for minecraft beta 1.8.1 (check my friends list) i dont have the link for it though

That would work better than how I had originally imagined it, but I think I still prefer the current idea with the player holding a sword, and right clicking while holding it will switch to your shield instead of using the built in sword blocking.

This is the solution I've been working on. I added "Spikd Shields" that do what you are suggesting. I am also trying to get something else working. I have to go now, but I'll edit this post later with the other solution.
