I was actually thinking that the extra space would be perfect for placing bookmarks allowing quick switching to the beginning of each mods recipes. Maybe instead of bookmarks, make it a tree with the option to only show selected branches.

There is a rare mythical button called "Search" that likes to answer questions; however, due to its nature, it often blends in with its surroundings so as to remain hidden.
This is amazing, I've been looking all around for something like this. I like the idea of saved selections, and I seriously cannot wait for the ability to click on an item and narrow the recipes to all items involving that. What would you think about creating a small program that allows users to submit mod database recipes down the road. Like allow us to save all the selections from a mod and then you can incorporate that into the book as a separate tab or something. Of course you'll have to check it, but the lovely part about allowing the userbase to do it is that people would notice errors and point them out, easy correction. Also, I know little to nothing about programming so forgive me if this is too difficult/impossible, what about allowing gifs - or their ingame equivalent - to allow the rotating of recipes that have more than one item. I don't think that was clear at all. An example, instead of 5 different pick axe recipes, the possibility of just one where wood, stone, gold, iron, diamond and whatever just cycle through in that one recipe box. Of course tweaking that would be a pain in the ass, so its just an idea.
Thank you for all the suggestions, a lot of them are quite good.
As for SMP, I have absolutely no idea how to do that, but that shouldn't be a problem. It would be one of the more distant features, though...

CraftGuide, recipe viewer with a scrollbar! (Resizable window, too, if you prefer playing with a smaller GUI scale and are tired of GUIs only occupying a tiny square in the centre)
Hmm, I'd like it to keep the page you were on if you exit out of it. It's very annoying to be checking over things and exit out, then you have to go and find the item again. Bookmarks in addition to this would be nice, or a way to just look at the recipes for a particular mod.
It would be great if there was some way to allow it to show recipes that don't use the Crafting Table, since there are mods that have their own crafting items. Probably not possible, though perhaps you could provide some hooks so that other mods can link their info to your book.
Bookmarks would be a great idea also can you make it to where the page you are on when exiting the craftbook will still be on the same page when returning to the book. Other then that great mod i advise every1 use this over risugamis book. This is 100x better

But yea. Some kind of menu or bookmarks would be awesome.
Something like: Weapons (where all recipes for weapons are), tools (all the tool-recipes), and so on.

I'll make a diamonds factory for you if you manage to separate major mods in tabs! :biggrin.gif:
Also, when I scroll down to the bottom (and try to go beyond) It crashes on me. I'm trying to use it with Technic Pack.
I'll post the error log here later.
Edit: Nevermind. It was an AdditionalPipes error. A version mismatch with buildcraft. It failed to render the pipes.
Finally. I was planning to do something like this, but keep getting distracted by making more tools of all kinds. My recipe book is over 900 pages too; mind if I put a link to this mod in my thread? :biggrin.gif:
Sorry, been a bit too busy to keep up with the forum. Really need to get around to dealing with the Youtube videos that people have made, but first finish up the next version.
Got furnace recipes working, but at the moment keyboard shortcuts and seeing item names don't work right now. Once I have item names, though, it should be fairly easy to add filtering, too, so a basic form of that might make it in the upcoming release.

I like this. Spare my for a lot off time and frustration.

It doesn't matter what game you play, as long as you have a good time when playing it and that it is a game that is good(if you want to know if the game you're playing is good, just ask).
CraftGuide: Quick access to a list of every crafting recipe in the game!
It was created as a result of how useful Risugami's RecipeBook is, but how quickly it becomes a hassle to navigate once you have a hundred pages.
To create your own, just place a crafting table in the centre of a crafting grid, put a piece of paper in each corner, and fill in the edges with four books:
Just right click while holding it, to see every crafting recipe in the game.
To navigate the list, you have a few options:
-The scroll bar: Just click on the slider, and drag it up or down to quickly scroll through the list.
-The up/down buttons: Quickly navigate one or ten pages at a time with the buttons above and below the scroll bar.
-Keyboard shortcuts: Arrow keys, page up, page down, home, and end can all be used if you prefer a keyboard over a mouse. Up/Down arrow keys scroll one line at a time, Left/Right and Page up/Page down go by pages, and Home/End can be used to immediately jump to the start or end of the list.
-Mouse wheel: If you have one, just spin it to immediately scroll the list! Number of lines scrolled can be configured to suit your preferences.
-Shift: Holding shift while scrolling will multiply the movement by ten!
Frequently Asked Questions:
Will there be SMP support?
Probably. It will be a while, though.
Future plans:
At the moment, this mod accomplishes it's primary goal, to display recipes and allow rapid navigation of them, but there is still plenty of room for improvement. Plans include being able to click on an item to filter the list so that it ONLY shows recipes including or producing that item. Other possible features might be a way to categorize items by originating mod, though that would be harder, as it would require mods to be able to provide information on what items they added. Additionally, other crafting systems could be added, such as furnace crafting; this would probably lead to an API to allow mods to define their own crafting types, and have them automatically included.
Finish internal reorganization, right now it doesn't show names and the keyboard shortcuts are missing
Important!
This mod may not be distributed in any form, even partially, without my explicit permission! If you wish to include it in a mod pack, compilation, or anything else, ask first.
The following people are permitted to distribute this mod:

Mine doesnt show me the scroll bar or anything cept for how to make pickaxes. Other than that it would be good...

This is awesome!
Just a general question. Have you thought about making it pause the game like Risugami's does? Maybe a configurable option. Haha I thought it did already, and got attacked at my farm-under-construction when I was looking up recipes. Not a big thing at all, just curious.
-Furnace recipes
-Remembers where you were when you close the book
-What row you are currently viewing
There is also a lot of internal change that will make it easier to add other features, later. For example, it wasn't easy (or perhaps even possible) to figure out if you clicked on a specific item, and now I can do it with a single line, so filtering by item should be relatively easy, now.

Like the crafting book by someone else, if you put a block or item in the GUI it lowers the recipes to those that use the item.
Makes sifting through recipes a bit easier.
Awesome mod, thanks for it!

GREAT MOD! :biggrin.gif:
Could you enumate the recipes? This way we have a better orientation of where and how fast we are :smile.gif:
Great mod! Keep it up! :biggrin.gif:
That is all.
Mine too, actually 6th for me because I run those and BTW.
Excellent work, man. Excellent.
