SirSengir (author of the Forestry mod) posted the following in his thread, after looking at the ModLoader log file:
"There is your problem. The NullPointerException masks the block id conflict that occurs before. If you fix the block id conflict, I wager that the problem with the ore dictionary will vanish as well."
It was a block ID conflict that was hidden by the NullPointerException - after solving the block ID conflict, Loren Larsa got it working :smile.gif:
How many ID 's does the mod use? i ran out of available slots with this mod. Aren't there ways to use greater ranges?

i already removes the laser mod and the balkon weapons mod in an attempt to free up slots, but it' seems it's not enough. at the moment i have no more manoeuvring room to free up slots. all i have left are ic2, bc, and redpower and some interdependencies.
could you make right clicking the posts and stuff change which form its in? - ie the colored posts on are own are usually in a post form, right clicking could make it change to the two bars.
Also make sure that if you do this, it doesn't cause a domino effect and change all the ones in a chain sort of motion.
Is it possible that tank cart detector detects what is the cart is transporting? For example, making a GUI with filter and when selecting there "water" only tank carts that are transporting water activates that detector.
With all the Crescote Oil & Iron required for just one stupid rail, rails are now waaaaaaaaaaay to expensive (especially wooden ones, which should be considered a CHEAP alternative, and they are not cheap currently at all).
Actually when saying "expensive" i mean "time-expensive", because as i have also Equivalent Exchange + BuildCraft + IndustrialCraft installed (I built an automated Diamond factory :biggrin.gif:), most of things are not expensive at all to me, but all the hassle needed just to build one rail is really annoying.
Can i switch the new version of mod to using old recipes ?
I will keep using 1.5.x for now.
The useOldRecipe option is still there. Or you could use all those fancy mods to make a rail factory. Which my ultimate goal is to create a crafting chain worthy of a factory.

Not a bad idea, already have the filter code written for the unloader.
SirSengir (author of the Forestry mod) posted the following in his thread, after looking at the ModLoader log file:
"There is your problem. The NullPointerException masks the block id conflict that occurs before. If you fix the block id conflict, I wager that the problem with the ore dictionary will vanish as well."
It was a block ID conflict that was hidden by the NullPointerException - after solving the block ID conflict, Loren Larsa got it working :smile.gif:
Yep, just wish Notch and that there would be a nice common error report :tongue.gif: sometimes the Minecraft crash log shows a block conflict and sometimes the Modloader.txt
But anyways it is a better system than a simple screen saying: "An error has occurred and Minecraft must be shut down." because those are of no help.
Thanks to both authors, there are some mod authors here I have on my "shitlist" who I consider having a really bad attitude...
BUT! CovertJaguar and SirSengir (Author of the forrestry mod) are NOT on that list, I put them in the box of the most helpful and good authors out there, keep up the good work and thank you for tracking down the issue...

The reason is that MCP (Minecraft Coder Pack) and Forge ain't updated.

Blame Notch for not prioritizing properly and giving them a proper mod interface from the get go and rather focus on stupid dragons :biggrin.gif:

Also I would say that the Minecraft engine needs some limit squashing such as the block and sprite limit.

Did you try installing the MCL after BTW? That's supposed to make them work together, so that MCL overwrites BTW's changes to Minecarts
Found a bug with tank detectors with Railcraft 1.6.4 (and earlier). The tank detector acts like a Detector (Any). So it is hard to tell if it is really detecting tanks!

I think you are being a little too optimistic about this. As a developer, I can tell you right now that a version independent API is very difficult thing to do that puts constraints on what both the developer and modder can do. And if you succeed, said API is usually too limited to be much use. Bukkit does a decent job, but forge is no where close to such a Utopian solution. And the rumors I heard suggest Mojang is talking to the Bukkit team, but those are just rumors. Also, I'm very wary of Mojang being responsible for maintaining such an API. If you think Forge is hard to get hooks added, Mojang will be 100x worse. Community driven solutions are almost always better in these cases.

Ok, now I just feel stupid. I really did forget to change the detection code after copy-pasting it. ><
Unfortunately, it will be at least a day to two before I can push out a fix because I'm currently rewriting the Loader code so I can use that id for more block types.
And its so hard to test interactions with other mods because I haven't figured out how to install mods to my MCP development environment. To test I need to compile and reobfuscate it to release format. This is slow process. =/
i use the MCPatcher to install all my mods but i try to install Btw for MCl
Make sure that MCPatcher is installing MCL _after_ BTW (so that MCL overwrites BTW's files)
Double check it if you haven't done so already :smile.gif:
MCPatcher starts from the top and moves down the list while installing them, which means that MCL should be somewhere below BTW on the list.

Well in the ideal case, thats the mod managers I have seen for other engines, naturally what Notch will introduce is uncertain.
But the engine will need a little overhaul first, like what the OpenTTD guys did, they went on a smashing spree for limits of their engine.
I remember quite a few posts where the developers got a post on their forum of a certain limit and then later it was permanently fixed...

Yes, but OpenTTD is a open source community driven project, which is the very reason it worked. Minecraft is not. The dynamics are very different for open source compared to commercial software. Mainly because the attitudes and situations of the people making them are different. One key difference is the fact that in a open source project, the project itself is the only driving factor. Its done because the creators want to, not because they are trying to make a living. This one difference tends open source projects towards better than average code, but often less art assets. Where as commercial software has much better art assets, but often horrendous code. Most end users only care that it looks good and works after all. Minecraft falls somewhere in the middle. Some parts of the code are quite elegant, other are so terribly written it makes me cringe. The amount of effort it would take Mojang to truly fix that probably falls on the wrong side of the cost-benefit analysis since the mod community is doing just fine the way things are. So yeah, I'm not optimistic about a Mojang maintained API. In fact, I'm worried it may do more harm than good by leading users to expect all their problems with conflicts, version updates, and installation to vanish as soon Mojang's API is released. And I would be extremely surprised if any of those vanished with an official API. But hey, if Mojang can prove me wrong, more power to them.

i already removes the laser mod and the balkon weapons mod in an attempt to free up slots, but it' seems it's not enough. at the moment i have no more manoeuvring room to free up slots. all i have left are ic2, bc, and redpower and some interdependencies.

Curse PremiumThe useOldRecipe option is still there. Or you could use all those fancy mods to make a rail factory. Which my ultimate goal is to create a crafting chain worthy of a factory.
Um...that would be pretty difficult because of the number of permutations possible.
Not a bad idea, already have the filter code written for the unloader.
Yep, just wish Notch and that there would be a nice common error report :tongue.gif: sometimes the Minecraft crash log shows a block conflict and sometimes the Modloader.txt
But anyways it is a better system than a simple screen saying: "An error has occurred and Minecraft must be shut down." because those are of no help.
Thanks to both authors, there are some mod authors here I have on my "shitlist" who I consider having a really bad attitude...
BUT! CovertJaguar and SirSengir (Author of the forrestry mod) are NOT on that list, I put them in the box of the most helpful and good authors out there, keep up the good work and thank you for tracking down the issue...

Now to help out the authors, NO this mod is not compatible with Minecraft 1.0
The reason is that MCP (Minecraft Coder Pack) and Forge ain't updated.
I guess Forge is a bit sketchy, Eloraam is updating it? Or is it abandoned?
But these are prerequesites for the mod to work...
Blame Notch for not prioritizing properly and giving them a proper mod interface from the get go and rather focus on stupid dragons :biggrin.gif:
No, one day all mods or most mods will most likely be version independant from Notch' work.
In other words, you can update your Minecraft and the mod you had before will work, thats the beenfit of a mod manager from the get go.
Unfortunatly, dragons and other front end stuff has the priority and the mod manager is on the back burner, fortunatly Forge is surging ahead and showing Notch and Jeb how it is SUPPOSED to be done :tongue.gif:
Also I would say that the Minecraft engine needs some limit squashing such as the block and sprite limit.

Did you try installing the MCL after BTW? That's supposed to make them work together, so that MCL overwrites BTW's changes to Minecarts
Found a bug with tank detectors with Railcraft 1.6.4 (and earlier). The tank detector acts like a Detector (Any). So it is hard to tell if it is really detecting tanks!
My setup:
Minecraft Creative 1.8.1
A ton of cool mods
Railcraft 1.6.4.
I will see if the problem is in SSP and SMP later when I get home.

Curse PremiumI think you are being a little too optimistic about this. As a developer, I can tell you right now that a version independent API is very difficult thing to do that puts constraints on what both the developer and modder can do. And if you succeed, said API is usually too limited to be much use. Bukkit does a decent job, but forge is no where close to such a Utopian solution. And the rumors I heard suggest Mojang is talking to the Bukkit team, but those are just rumors. Also, I'm very wary of Mojang being responsible for maintaining such an API. If you think Forge is hard to get hooks added, Mojang will be 100x worse. Community driven solutions are almost always better in these cases.

Unfortunately, it will be at least a day to two before I can push out a fix because I'm currently rewriting the Loader code so I can use that id for more block types.
And its so hard to test interactions with other mods because I haven't figured out how to install mods to my MCP development environment. To test I need to compile and reobfuscate it to release format. This is slow process. =/
Make sure that MCPatcher is installing MCL _after_ BTW (so that MCL overwrites BTW's files)
Double check it if you haven't done so already :smile.gif:
MCPatcher starts from the top and moves down the list while installing them, which means that MCL should be somewhere below BTW on the list.

But the engine will need a little overhaul first, like what the OpenTTD guys did, they went on a smashing spree for limits of their engine.
I remember quite a few posts where the developers got a post on their forum of a certain limit and then later it was permanently fixed...
