Also, I think I might nerf the rate at which they heal, it's a bit crazy I think.
What would the leash do exactly? I get the basic gist obviously, but what specifically did you have in mind?
They seem to wonder around a little bit more then some people would like, the leash would be able to keep the dog following you, and you can take your dog for a walk :tongue.gif:, and you wouldnt want your dog falling in a pit when a leash wouldn't let himBtw you should but up the banner for people to use, I'd use it :tongue.gif:

It is available, I have the code for it in the OP.
Hey the leash could be used not only for walks but as a way to level some (not sure which) of their skills up! Maybe passive skills like PackPuppy and such!
Also I love slayer's grave idea. Maybe you could implement that at least in that if a dog dies, it leaves behind a permanent (or at least it doesnt despawn until you destroy it) grave? That'd be a bit of a nice memorandum. Also, make craftable graves that we can place for those elusive doggies that seem to disappear sometimes?
The graves could be made out of sticks and bones :tongue.gif:
Okay guys, I'm gonna release the next update on the weekend, and it'll feature some balancing tweaks and possibly hardcore permadeath for dogs.
One thing of major focus is fixing the loot system, as the item drop overhaul has caused hunterdog to not take effect for certain mobs. Pigs don't drop any extra meat, while cows simply explode in a shower of goodies. I want to try and fix this, though it seems like it'll be tricky to balance unless I'm mistaken about how it works.
Also, incompatibility with mo' creatures is unacceptable, so I'm going to make the item IDs customizable, I don't care what it takes.
As far as new features go I think I would definitely take an SMP version over new features. What you have done is already great! It's too bad getting things to work in SMP takes so much more effort than SSP. Hopefully the new tool being worked on will make it easier to do.
Alright, I think I've managed to make an item ID config file! Now I'm going to nerf the healing rate of dogs, make them accept food when incapacitated, and also let them revive on their own if they get a full day's rest.
I've actually had second-thoughts about permadeath for dogs in hardcore mode, since they're not completely under your control, making their deaths much more annoying.
Also, I'm gonna try and make the shaking animation change when the dog would be covered in snow rather than water.

Yeah, I think I'm gonna release this version, cleaning up some stuff, and then work on SMP.
Um...I believe I'm experiencing a bit of a bug...as my Doggies keep setting each other on fire when they touch... ._.
They're set to wander, so I wouldn't imagine they should be attacking ANYTHING, especially not EACH OTHER ._.

Oh... Oh dear. I had forgotten about that bug. I have no idea what causes it, but it seems to happen with wandering dogs when you're not logged on to the account you tamed them with.

Yeah, that was the case. Did you know they also get hurt when you walk through a door with them on your head, even if there's no block above it for them to clip through? o_o I understood the first clip, but then I broke the block above it and they still got hurt o_o

That's probably because they bumped into a block to the SIDE of them.
I like the ideas bouncing around. I don't know if defense directly does this, or if it could/should be a separate skill, but the time that my doggies get incapped all the time is from creeper explosions. (Do Not Ask why I get my dogs blown up so much. It has NOTHING to do with the fact that I tend to flail around like an idiot around creepers, and the creeper sweeper thing just means I go looking for them, thinking that I won't flail upon finding them. Also, they blow up so much more easily since 1.0, from farther away. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. I go through a lot of cake.)
I like the idea that an incapped doggy can eventually heal itself out of the incap after a full day. Makes sense. Though I don't know that I can leave mine alone that long to do the healing. That sad whine they do gets me every time. "Please stop crying, doggy, see I'm milking the cows RIGHT NOW!"

Do you give your dogs the GuardDog skill? at max level it doubles their max HP.
Updated! My next focus is going to be on combat. I'm going to add doggy equipment calibrated for balance with vanilla minecraft, and then nerf the dogs' flagrantly overpowered combat abilities (they're immune to the damage buffs applied against the player according to difficulty). However, I'll make the equipment easy to code, so mod-makers who add new materials or weapons to the game can create their own doggy tags in an expansion pack for the two mods.
The changes I've made are in the changelog, but the biggest one is probably the config file!
Wow your mod is getting popular :smile.gif: so many posts in just one day i can't even keep up like I used to :-P
Good work Raust ^.^
Thanks. Oddly, according to adf.ly, nobody's downloaded 1.6.4 yet. Then again, the vast, astronomical majority of the downloads are coming from minecraftdl.com...
