Things that are a good idea:
* Adding ranged weapons or additional stronger weapons is very possible. But I am not going to add additional items to the game other than the dolls themselves. The more items I add to the game, the more likely it will be incompatible with someone's existing jar (either using the same recipes, or too many item sprites).
* Adding more powerful units and different ranks of strength is a cool idea. I was going to do that in the beginning with white and black units, but well... that's a little racist :tongue.gif:
* Adding artillery like catapults or trebuchets is a cool idea too. That way, they could make use of heavier objects as ammunition and stuff. Will be a low priority though.
Things that I am going to add just because:
* Giving a soldier a slime ball will allow him to glue his opponents to the ground so they cannot move.
Things that I'm not going to add because they are too complicated:
* I won't be adding different sized units because of two things: making bigger dolls would double the amount of item sprites used (which is bad), and changing the size of entities while they are already existing causes all kinds of problems, such as walking through walls.
* I will not add "kings get first dibs". Right now, all units existing have one place per frame where they check if their king exists. If I make them check for all kinds of items, that number will jump up to 10 or so, potentially having a drastic effect of CPU usage.
* I will not add "mini buildings". This is because - as far as I know - it's impossible to have a single block have multiple bounding boxes. If you want to make a house, build it out of regular blocks. Or use the 8th block mod that somebody mentioned here on the thread.
* I will not add flying mounts because not only would they be extremely overpowered, it would take too long to make for what I get out of it and I have no idea how to properly code the AI for a flying mount anyway.
You can probably expect V2 within the next 2 weeks. I've got other things to worry about for now.
Make it so that you can create a crown for YOURSELF somehow using gold ingots that would be something like this:
(or something else thats a kinda crappy recipe, just a suggestion)
That would make it so that whenever you wear it the tiny clay soldiers follow you around like they do to a regular clay soldier.
I tried this. It failed epically. You know why?
Because clay soldiers like to follow you close. When they follow you really close and there are a lot of them, it's literally impossible to move. They push you around, they swarm around you, and if you walk fast to get away from them, the ones in the back get left behind. So it's basically impossible to lead an army.
Also, yes there is an existing shrinking powder mod somewhere, use that to get right into the fight if you want.
Haha i love this mod! i even made a little fortress for them haha. Anyway maybe you can add like commands ( follow certain soldier, Flank, Charge, Etc.) That would be really cool if you could do that :smile.gif:) diamonds for you!!!
I am amazed how many people always show up, suggesting some huge pile of barely random festures to add.
Guys take it down a notch, some of that is enough for an entire new game plus addons. Try to make suggestions that could go into v2 and v3, not the next 10.
Well anyway, lets add to that pile:
They should have some kind of base like a castle.
You can either build that castle yourself, or give the king and his men some cobble so that they can do it themself.
The Castle acts mainly as storage: When soldiers find equipment they already have they bring the surplus to the castle. Unequipped soldiers that come to the castle to get equiped with what is stored.
The castle could have a chest gui, so that you can supply it manually. (So you can give them a lot of equipment without fear of dropped items disappearing)
Gravel as ranged weapon would be nice, I agree. But why do you need a new entity for that? I mean how do they store the four pieces of food? And the throwing itself could be a particle effect or something.
Using one clay to revive a soldier that is made out of only one clay itself, seems a bit excessive. maybe again use 1/4 to patch them up, or use some other item?
The castle idea isn't that bad, but... if a soldier can pick up extra equipment and store it into a castle, what's to stop new unequipped soldiers from just taking that stuff? It's not like they'd be travelling very far to store it, a soldier's sight range is only 8 blocks anyway. And it's literally impossible to make an entity travel further than 16 blocks to a remembered location, it makes the game crash if you try.
Anyway, the clay idea is fine. I'll make them use less of it. But I can't have it drop "half a clay lump" on death, because that would require me to make a new item representing half of that clay lump.
And as for the gravel throwing, you seem to not know very much about the way the game works, but that's okay. The "four pieces of food" are stored literally as a number. It's just 4, 3, 2, 1 or 0. If it's above zero, and their health is less than 3/4 full, they eat. An actual VISIBLE item in the game, however, needs to be coded for collisions and movement within the air. Since arrows are too large, I would need to code a smaller entity to represent gravel. I am still planning on doing this, but it takes time. And as for particle effects - perhaps you hadn't noticed, but particles don't collide with entities, only blocks. They are stored on a completely separate list than everything else.
Edit - if I do the castle idea, I won't make an actual castle block. I'll just give them the ability to look in and use chests.
Great mod! I have a giant war going on right now. Some ideas for future updates: if you provide clay soldiers with clay blocks, they will slowly start to make small buildings such as forts and castles. It can start off as a progression through the buildings, such as base, fort, castle. Just an idea. I think it would be cool. Not sure if it would be possible though. Another idea would be allowing more items for the soldiers to use as weapons such as bones for spears like jmayoman said.
Edit: Sorry Kodaichi. I posted this before I saw your posts on the mini buildings and other stuff. I hope this doesn't annoy you. I do still hope for the additional weapons in v2. Looking forward to it! Thanks for this awesome mod!
Busy Making a battlefield now. This is so epic it can't be passed by.
Although I might want specialists in my army.... :wink.gif:

I Support a ton of mods and ideas, and I would like if They were added into the game as options that can be turned on or off. I also support a ton of texture packs. I am currently making a full list. (Can help people modding)

About my house idea, I was thinking of it being just a single block. It dosent have to look complicated with small bit's taken off and such. I was thinking making it like sdk's gun spawners and ammo spawners, ext. However I respect your decision if you dont want to. :3
You should definitely make this SMP compatible, 4 players could have contests, they each pick a color and try to have the best army, that would be cool.
I made a short (23 second) video of a killing trap. Will be uploading shortly.
Also can you add all the dye colours? Rather than just 4?
Can't watch the video right now, but as for the colors, adding all of them is too much. If I add too many item sprites to the mod then users won't be able to use as many otherm ods at the same time. Once you add too many items into your game, it will give you an error and it'll crash. So I'm keeping it simple.
Only four more colors will be added: Purple, Orange, Black, and White.
If you want black or white soldiers to have no team coordination (ie, attack members of the same color and other colors as well), let me know.
amazing mod, many diamonds for you but i seem to have a problem:

can anyone please help me with this error?

This is just one of those mods that makes you say "SMP can wait, I have to go to war!"
11/10, just amazing.

I made an Arena with piston gates and viewing stands
You should add house and a hierarchy system so you can create entire clay kingdoms
