Can anyone explain this? A German tutorial for Red Power 2, which is apparently using version 1.6.4. Is there a private release somewhere that most of us don't know about?
Anyone think Eloraam is being selfish not opensourcing?
I think that was mainly stupid. Unfortunately, a lot of people still don't understand that when you make something open source, you neither give it away, nor make it free...
Anyway Project Red = opensource Redpower. Case closed.

The big problem with open source is that you lose control. It is no longer the creator that decides how something works and why, but it's the crowd... Which is not always a good thing.
Gazillion other open source projects prove exactly the opposite. In reality you only "lose control" if you abandon the project (or go nuts).
For me it adequately replaces RP's unique features. 100500+ versions of power systems and machines doing the same thing were already implemented elsewhere. Why reinvent the wheel?
You mean like not having time to do anything for a year. It's her project, her decision what to do with it and whether to risk losing control over it. Stop whining and move on.
Thanks, I've already moved on...
I mean that "The big problem with open source is that you lose control" -- is really a completely wrong misconception.
1. Update to 1.5 and deal with the new texture system
2. Update to 1.6 and deal with more crap
3. Wait for Forge to update to 1.7 and then have to rewrite a lot of the mod

Hey, guys. Quote me if you want me to respond. Otherwise I'll have no idea what the hell you want with me.

Pretty sure this is going to be alright. Might take some time though. They do have to basically rewrite the whole mod.
I don't think anyone is planning on rewriting the entire mod. There are a couple of microblock/wiring rewrites, a couple of frames implementations but not exactly the same, four different mods have added scythe/sickle tools, a couple of mods add something a bit like the Deployer and Block Breaker, no-one has tackeld the pneumatic tube system, and no-one has even contemplated the CPU. Some of the things that only a Sortron could do can now be done with Computercraft and Open Peripherals though.
Well, the new Item Ducts from Thermal Expansion look to be very similar and knowing King Lemming and his team, they will be lag free. It has been stated it won't support coloring the ducts at first, but it is planned.
As for the CPU, ComputerCraft by itself is an okay replacement. What really pushes it over the top is all the sub mods that extend functionality beyond what the FORTH system could do.

Used to run game servers. Makes textures. AMA about running game servers.

Oh, yeah, I forgot to watch the videos last night. I did read that there will be clear and opaque versions, which will help avoid all the packets describing where the items have got to. So you can still have all the lag you want by just using the clear versions!
Computercraft is no replacement for RP computers, CC is just a scripting engine, while RP computers are real CPU emulators. It's like comparing a gaming console to a PC.
In my opinion Computercraft is too easy its no challenge writing a good program... so why use gates and wiring ... just write a simple computercraft program...
I have a real CPU emulator mod in progress. It's been dead for a week or so, but that's only because nobody cared when I originally linked to it in places.

Looks cool, looking forward to trying it. I have a computer mod on my todo list as well but as that grows by 10 items an hour I don't know when or if I will get around to it. It may end up as a CC addon, or nothing at all. I've heard rumors that a couple others are working on actual cpu computer mods as well. The future certainly looks interesting.
To keep this on topic of Redpower 2 however. As I understand it CPW does not expect Forge to be updated for 1.7 until the first quarter of next year. On the part of the modders it will require a rewrite of most methods since numerical id numbers are being phased out in favor of string based ids. It's a pretty massive change. I'm really doubtful if Eloraam has not had time to fix the bugs from last year, that she will have time to basically write Redpower 3. Only time will tell though eh?

This is so funny, and Soooo True.
If she does decide to update, its gonna hurt really bad....lmao
It's not Redpower2, it's Project:Red:

Highly recommended mod!
EDIT: And I failed to notice Isfaels answer.
Yes and no, but in the end i do hope this mod updates either way.

Project Red != Redpower
pipes and machines will not added in project red
Maybe pipes of some sort will have a chance:

No, the latest version is only for 1.4.6/1.4.7

Are you saying that Red Power 2 is way out dated? Otherwise, mentioning Windows 95 makes no sense.
