I dont know if this is deliberate or a side effect od the ore redistribution but there is no variety in block types underground. Once you hit smooth stone its 100% smooth stone and nothing else. no dirt, no gravel, no sand. Ir makes caves look a little strange when they are 100% smooth stone. I know the ores are grouped together now but has the same thing been done to sand, gravel and dirt?
I think that's exactly the case - dirt and gravel cluster just like the rest. I never saw sand except just near the surface to begin with, though.
Hey, I like this mod very much. Ive been able to find all the things i needed. But when I was using the xray, I couldnt find a single Strein of Gold or Diamond with using this mod. Does this mod really affect Gold and diamond?

My watch may be water resistant. But is it Coffee resistant?
Ok I just noticed about how the ores are distrubited in each mod version. I have version 1.0 For Minecraft 1.6.5 and finding diamond is going to be a pain in the ass. But in 1.2 it easier to find diamond but you find ore based on the biome (I kinda dont like that.). So what i was thinking was that you make a properties file or txt file as a configuration based on v1.0 to let us decide how big or how common to find each ore. That would be great. Or if you base it on v1.2, you can make it so that we decide how common how big and what biome we can find it that we can change.

You got a vanilla player's attention. You'll take my modding virginity! ;_;
But yeah, I just let the other folks in the server I play in to try it out in SP and see how they like it.
And yeah, changeable settings to this mod would be pretty awesome, especially for SMP.
I'll get back to you once I tried it out for a bit. At the moment though, from looking from the screenshots others has provided, I think you could leave some of those regular vanilla veins around if possible. Its so that is can be a bit more evenly distributed but also to add a bit of uncertainty when you uncover a single block of ore. Is it a super vein or a vanilla vein?
Might just be me, but i'm having a little problem where i'm finding my first diamond deposit before I even get a whiff of iron -.- I love the mod, but could you maybe code the first iron mine to be slightly easy to find or something?
Off Topic: I:m here in philly after 25 hours of driving, and my nephew is adorable :biggrin.gif:
On Topic: I'm glad to see you all have been active and asking/answering questions.
some things I would like to say on various topics:
- I would like to make a properties file for this mod to give balance customization to the community, but I have to research how to set that up in the programming.
- as for people who can't find a certain ore, it is there, I used them all, you are just unlucky (I have personally come across all the ores except diamond, and there are reports of that even)
- I am working on the multiplayer update though there is no guarantee on when I will get all the versions up, I will start with v1.2 DONE!
- Notch has been talking about 1.6.6 and I will jump on that ASAP, but I am on vacation with my family, MCP may take awhile to update, and it may not break the mod.
- I have specifically made coal veins very large, because in real life they are found in large layer like veins, but making it appear in layers would be weird, so I made the veins large
I'll try my best to make this mod better in a timely fashion
Oh, and most this info is in the main post or technical post I'm pretty sure :wink.gif:
edit: - though distribution wise I like the idea of having some normal veins in the generation, one of the key parts to this mod is the fact that if you find some ore somewhere there is more in the area. though instead of every chunk having normal generation, I could make every 1 in 6 or so chunks have normal ores (consider that that is area, so a 2x3 area, which is only 32x48 blocks)
This would help fill out those barren areas and trick you into getting excited :tongue.gif:
though coal I would keep out, because it is more fun (in my opinion) to not have it right in the beginning :tongue.gif:
updated links for single player to 1.6.5 files (no longer 1.6.4 files, which still worked in the MC update)
links to v1.1 removed. v1.2 is generally better, and so v1.1 was obsolete as it's intention was to be like v1.2.
Note: I regularly add info in the main post and the Technical stuff post, so checking them out every now and then when I patch is a good idea.
I'm thinking of putting each of the categories of info on the main post in spoiler boxes to make it neater, and put a "date last changed: mm/dd/yyyy" above each, for ease of info gathering.
though all that might be trouble some for some people. hmmm....
Edit: also, I can't seem to find this mod's page with google, though I found a MC fan website in Croatian that links here :biggrin.gif:
I thought he stole my mod at first, then I saw what the link was called :biggrin.gif:
I want to bump this up, took me forever to find it.
Also, I'm curious if anyone has tested this with the Newest Minecraft Version? I was to use it on SMP, but I don't want to waste my time if it doesn't work. :smile.gif:
- I have found, syntax wise, what I have to do to make a properties file, that people can change. now I just have to learn how to program with it, and build it. so a little progress there.
- I also am put old deleted links in a spoiler box, should you want other versions
- I also have another mod idea for minecraft that would make saplings auto plant when dropped on the ground, so when you cut trees a new forest will grow from the old one. just like real life!
but I have no idea where to start with the programming at the moment. I will look into it when I have time.
I'm pretty sure better ore generation 1.6.5 still works for 1.6.6, but I only have a confirmation of multiplayer working. Does single player still work?
Alright, now that Bukkit is 1.6.6 I took a look at the guts of their stuff to see how it works. Unfortunately, they use a completely different data structure and nomenclature, so even assuming that I could hack this file into their .jar with no ill effects, I still wouldn't know where to put it or what to name it.
I'd love to use this for a server but there is no way I'm going to sacrifice Bukkit for it. If you, marco, don't intend to set it up for Bukkit, then I'd like your permission to try and do that myself, or seek out the expertise of someone who can do so.

ive used 4 dimond picks walking in a stright line at lvl 11 and found 1 gold vain useing xray but no diamond...

you have my permission, there is actually a section in the OP that talks about using my mod, "this mod and yours?"
I don't think this is updated for 1.6.6...I searched and searched and searched for a very long time and then just turned it on peaceful and went into a giant cave. DIDN'T FIND ONE ORE. So yeah...Cool if it worked but there just isn't ore at all. (I used the v1.2)

That's because Ore is Harder to Find now. Which means, it WAS working for you, you just need to search MUCH longer.
I went mining for about an hour, found a Coal Vain, found Gold and Redstone, but yet to find iron ( :sad.gif: ), showing how much harder it is to find stuff.
that the mod is working for single player (and I spent most of the day playing multiplayer with my brother :smile.gif: lots of fun)
the best way to find ores is exploring caves, the BIG ones.
and that there is already a mod for the trees, btw bonemeal as fertilizer is AWESOME, it insta-grows plants!
about IC I havn't heard anything from alblaka for intigrating my mod, and I couldn't manage to decompile and recompile the files myself, doing so is a very delicate process. I would love to do so though.

See? I'm not so malicious...
Repostin:
You are correct sir; normally those black blocks would be a fairy-dusting that covers the whole map.
But once you hit an iron deposit, oh man... happy days will be here again.
