I really really dig this mod, and it's a much better alternative to my idea that a single ore block would return more drops depending upon tool quality. I think it'd be really cool if you included hollow ore-caves, and less density in veins higher up, making a more clustered feel that gradually became more vein-like further down.
Either way, great mod that really improves the game. It's making a lot more sense to build established colonies around my mines now, where instead I sprawled everywhere with shanties in-between, spending all my time transporting materials when I just wanted to build structures. Now when I bring coal from my coal mine, I'll feel like I'm trading for the iron I need from the sand people to build the minecart track needed to harvest all of the oar, creating an economy of one.

I originally set it up to be denser at the center of it occurrence level, but because the veins are the size they are, it feels like a big blob.
I can make some bound densities, based on hieght, i.e. 45-64 has 20%, 25-45 has 30%, and 0-25 has 50%. or whatever
I thought of making it generate block.air.blockID, as a kind of ore, but I havn't tried it out. this would make hollow veins. though tweaking the vein size would be important to prevent gaping chasms, unless that's what we want :wink.gif:
Just a thought, wouldn't it be possible to include every mod ore in this one in a general way? I means, they had to define an appareance rate for each ore no? Couldn't you just use that appareance rate to define on what chunk to generate the mine instead of creating a specific patch for each mod?

each ore has a set of declarations, and the appearance rate is a number, it would have to be a global variable to do that.
Example of ore generation code:
loop that says how many veins
within chunk x coords
how high it can spawn from bedrock
within chunk z coords
some stuff that says which block, and the size of the veins
this MUST be decalared for each ore you want to generate. any modifications, or new ores must have changes to this, and have it's own.
basically I can't change their ores unless I go change it myself. which isn't too difficult, but it can be interesting getting the sources.
theoretically you could have a programming standard that allows for overall changes with ore mods, but getting that set up would be an endeavor. good idea though :wink.gif:
Good news guys, I have approval to rework the IC ore distribution! :biggrin.gif:
But...
the minecraft_server.exe when I change it to .zip I can't add or delete files for some reason. I've tried two separate computers, three different zip programs, and have tried getting new server files from minecraft.net (winrar says its corrupt, might be a large scale issue)
edit: I have typed up the code, and sent it to Alblaka (maker of IC) do be compiled. (an error in some animal class he had was preventing me from doing it myself)
This will bring IC users the ability to mod his mod, to get copper, tin, and uranium mines just like the original ores!
and Minecraft_server.zip still being derp so I can't make my mod compatible with his multiplayer yet.
1. Make stone flammable with mod creating or single player commands
2. Make a Flint N' Steel
3. LIGHTS THE UNDERWORLD UP
4. ???
5. Profit. *Find ores on groups :p*
Amazing mod thats actually a big idea! i love the way you can actually compress the ores and put them together
Its harder to find, but the realism that it adds is just enough, im gonna try this out :]
EDIT I was diggin and i found a cave i know caves are great to get materialz then i had swords to explore, it was a really small cave with no monsters but at the end of it had... DIAMONDS =]
[simg]http://imageshack.us/m/819/6498/77378182.png[/simg]
i thought it was 20 diamonds .-. it was over 226 .-. i broke a iron pickaxe x_X
now im like

Try downloading the minecraft_server.jar file. This should work fine (it does for me). official download from minecraft.net OR rename the minecraft_server.zip to minecraft_server.jar. Maybe this helps you out..
Thank God you found this, I was using the .exe not the .jar from the website, I will amend the installation guide also. *sighs in relief*
edit: (1:39 pm) hmm so MCP doesn't like decompiling mods and recompiling them. so, I was able to get to ChunkProviderGenerate.java for IC multiplayer, but it wouldn't recompile due to his mod getting messed up in the decompile portion. leaving me again with the code but no way to make it of.class for you guys.
sometimes I despise compilers, and their over carefulness with errors.
but this good news is 300 people have downloaded this mod as of today! :biggrin.gif:
Hey Marcopolo, thanks for the shoutout friend :smile.gif: I'm using this mod at the moment and I think it's an awesome idea that someone should have come up with ages ago, and I'm happy my tutorial started you off :smile.gif:
Just a footnote, I'm currently working on a new ores mod, but with a twist that makes it unique. It's currently in it's beta testing stages, but when I release it would you like to collaborate to make our mods compatible? I think it'd be a pretty sweet idea :biggrin.gif: <3
that would be great!
though with my experience with a request to make Industrial Craft ores spawn this way, the mod needs to have all the sources to compile properly in MCP. I tried decompiling the mod with MCP, and making the changes, then recompiling it, but it gets errors, and it won't give you the compiled mod. (so basically only the person with the original code can make stable modifications to it)
so when your ores are set up, send me the generation method. I'll code it to generate the ores in mines, and then send it back to you (it's a simple modification really). you can PM it to me when your done.
and a note about modloader and my mod. I looked into making this mod with modloader, but it looks like there is no way to bypass the original minecraft ore generation with modloader (and I don't want the small veins to spawn everywhere). meaning I had no choice but to edit the base class. so if you are going to make any changes to that class (ChunkProviderGenerate) yourself, ask me to send you the edited ore generation, i'll send you the code and instructions on where to put it.
and it's nice to see you like the mod too :smile.gif:
Hehehehe, Love this mod! It's the first time I actually had to use charcoal! Couldn't find any coal anywhere!!! 10 minutes into the game and I STILL haven't found a single ore! Makes it really hard but really challenging and I can guess Very VEry VERy VERY rewarding when you finally do find a vein.

yes it is if you look on page to i put up some pics...
EDIT:make it so when you click it it takes you here....
hmm thought I did...
but it works for mine :tongue.gif:
edit: just tested it and it worked, did you copy the code that I added underneath the banner? it's the links and stuff, just copy paste that in your signature.

this is in respect to making his ores generate like mine

Nothing to see here, move along.
and this is the reason I created this mod, as before it was a grind instead of an adventure.
I'm glad you like it
that would be great!
