And now I have a built factory, what exactly should I build along with this mod? I'm lacking ideas.
Does your factory include an automated multi-stage sawmill? ie, a series of saws that starts with planks and can turn them into slabs, mouldings, gears, etc, depending on where you put the planks in.
If it doesn't have one, there's something you could do..
In shear 'count' of new blocks and entities there are a few, no where near as well designed of course, and I do not use them, but they exist.
Yeah, I don't think that block count is a good indication of how extensive the functionality of a mod is. A single block, like the BD can have a ton of functionality within it, or it can be a new texture for wood.
Again, if you know of a more extensive mod, I'd ask you to name it. I know of a few that are comparable, but your original statement seemed to indicate that there were a lot of much bigger ones just floating around out there that we'd obviously all be aware of, and I really don't think that's the case.
BuildCraft did need a hook to be able to make, for example, the pipes have a collision boundary based on its side and connections (and the recent additions of wires on pipes I believe he is using a render override, lasers too most likely), it allowed him to expand.
I don't believe any of those items require base-class mods. I think you may be a bit unclear on what does and doesn't.
Sorry man, but from this conversation, and the inaccuracies of your statements, you really aren't sounding like the kind of person that has decades of programming experience (which I do).
Finally found the thread you were talking about this before on your forums, while reading through it I have a few comments. First of all, I *SO* apologize for the wall of text, will not be anywhere near as long as before, but as I explain below, I have a *really* difficult time being terse... :sad.gif:

Yes, the base concept and function of pipes and tubes are more or less identical but implementation and detailed functionality are very different. Rip-off is way too strong of the word, I wouldn't even call it a copy.
Also there's two different issues here:
1. Eloraam duplicating some concepts/functionally of other mods, to which (again, IMO, I seriuosly don't want to start angry argument or troll you) you seem be overreacting a bit.
2. Eloraam's code bloating Forge which is the main issue here and I think you being overly angry (once again, IMO, you are fully entitled to have your opinion and ignore mine) over problem 1 are getting in a way of properly communicating with Eloraam in order to find a solution. Quitting Forge should be last ditch solution, I think you and other mod authors who a having an issue with the code bloat (how many there are actually?) as well as Eloraam herself should try to find solution which would help Forge to continue existing.
I've had a lot of time to think about this man. This has been an ongoing issue for quite a long time now (multiple months), and I'm not even particularly angry about it anymore.
Also, Eloraam and I have talked (and argued) ad nauseam about these issues in the past. There's no middle-ground to be had in it.
I'd be happy to be part of the Forge is she weren't, but I'm not willing to be part of it while she is. This may be the first you've heard of it, because, as I said, I kept it quiet for the sake of keeping the peace, but that in no way means it just started.
Her recent denials of knowing anything about it are just plain old ******** or a major case of denial. I personally think it's the former.
I think I may have an explanation of this, and this may get into some things that most people are not interested in, but let me start off by saying that of the MBTI types I am a near pure INTJ (you can google INTJ, most description are quite dead-on accurate for me), and that is primarily because I have something called Aspergers Syndrome, which is a type of mindset where I am not 'social' and do not experience emotions like other people, I get emotional over 'different' kinds of things, but I do have a vastly enhanced intellect, my mind is focused on near pure logic. An effect of that is that I have essentially no social skills at all and am in fact rather incapable of getting them as well, meaning such things as simple as face to face contact, I cannot read the other person, if I am rambling on about quantum physics or Erlang or math or something I get so into it, but I cannot tell when they are, for example, itching to leave. I have been following Eloraam's progress for the past few months since I got into RedPower and based on everything I have seen about her, her personality, the way she interacts, as well as some other information I have gleaned, in addition to what you stated above and in a few other places, I truly believe that she is very much like me.
If she is indeed similar to how I am, then I have some words of note. I am older then her (assuming her hinted at age is correct), but I have had the benefit of knowing about my condition for about 6-7 years now, and as such I have tried to 'work around' the way I am as much as I can (you would not believe how much less 'personable' I was ten years ago, even though I thought that I perfectly was).
First of all, my type has an absolutely overwhelming desire to "Make Everything Better", nothing is as good as it can get and everything can always be improved. We also absolutely *hate* having no control over something to make it better (see why I am an open-source programmer in my spare time?). Considering that, can you now see why she made 'tubes', they have automatic routing, no overflow, buffered control, and more, in general they are 'better'. She also disliked IC2s energy net system, so she made her own based on real electrical formulas, and it also works 'better' in that energy can transfer between items automatically (large battery bank without needing to wire up every single one or a line of solar panels) and it will let her combine blutricity and redpower signals in the same blocks, along with tubes and panels and so forth, everything is toward making things 'better'. Unlike a lot of other modders who just keep adding 'cool' stuff, she is only adding stuff that has immediate benefit or 'betters' something from elsewhere, much as you do in many cases, but from a different angle.
Second, when you get my type on a debate of any form, we can *vehemently* debate about a subject, *EVEN*FROM* an angle that we are completely opposed to, just because it forces us to think and flesh out ideas, however we rarely remember the debates because our brain type processes what we learned from it, but not the action of the learning process (that is also why we tend to do poorly in the public school system, regardless of how much better we are able to learn then most). Meaning that she may actually have been arguing with you, not because she was truly against your viewpoint, but because it was making her think, she was 'enjoying' it because she was learning, and as such she may not have remembered how she acquired that knowledge in the first place, so he saying she does not remember could in fact be truth, it happens to me quite often, which bites me in the butt at times... >.>
A few other minor things to help keep this from being an overwhelming wall of text, we also tend to hate small talk, we hate people who show no love of learning, we hate people and systems that are inefficient, when you get us talking about a subject we love it can be *very* hard to get us to stop, and there is a great deal more, but that might indeed help clarify how she is.
If that is indeed the case, then instead of dropping out if you gave a well, logically-thought out request to her and asked for her input, then she (if indeed she is like me) would be quite literally helpless to give it a look and consider it, and if it is indeed logically made then we accept it and combine it into our being (if it is not logically made then we tend to hand such requests back to the requester in tatters, I do that too often to people at my work, need to quit it...). Instead of being directly confronting, which causes my type to basically 'shut down', you need to try to get my type to open up, ask questions, instead of saying 'you should do this', rather say 'why is this done this way and not this way'. If you need me to elaborate on something or need anything, always feel free to ask.

As for functionality, a prime example of one that uses an amount of quite sizable base class edits is finite water, not a forge mod, would be quite an undertaking of a porting process (hmm, would be quite fun to mix with BTW though, especially with buckets not able to pick up water...), but this is a prime example on a mod that makes very large edits and sweeping changes, would still be possible to be drop-in supportable if the proper hooks were made, and why shouldn't they?
Sorry man, but from this conversation, and the inaccuracies of your statements, you really aren't sounding like the kind of person that has decades of programming experience (which I do).
I notice you keep doing this as well, you keep attacking the people you are speaking to, why is that?
Simple counter? Block dispenser. Single block that can do lots of things, as opposed to a single-use tile in a huge 'This can do everything' toolbox. As for RS NOR latches...I don't know about yours, mine are always 2x4 (not 3x3) but that's still not exactly huge. IIRC (which I may not) doesn't the RP one 'burn out' if you input both sides? Manual ones you can override to make things like JK-Flip flops too. Best bit is is requires thinking and results in fulfilment for a job well done.
I usually do 3x3 because I have a block in the center with a sign on top saying what information it is holding, most of my contraptions looked like that, I like labels. The burning out is a designed limitation, it is not supposed to be a 'perfect' block, and since having both input on signifies a breakdown of the logic (which side should be on, both? None? one or the other?) it makes sense. All other listed things are easily creatable by mixing different blocks together, it is not a single magic-block-does-everything kind of thing, you still have to build, even the crafting recipes have you putting together a set of relatively costly parts that make sense (other then the pointer, always thought that was a bit high up, needs more circuitry). RP2 requires quite a bit of thinking, but thinking of how things interact, not thinking of 'oh hey, I need to clear out a few hundred meters to make this thing'; you still have to mix and match blocks to get them to work together logically.
ALL THESE UPDATES AND NONE FOR 1.0.0!!!!!
please explain
At the moment, BTW still uses Forge, and Forge cannot update until ModLoaderMP is, so they are waiting on that. Updates will be quicker when Forge is removed.

I appreciate your attempt to explain things (at length) in terms of personality types or what have you, but I have had no indications that she has this kind of personality disorder from the many conversations that we've had.
I do not think the interaction between us can be so easily classified. I am also not willing to discuss this issue further within this venue.

"Quite sizeable base class edits" is not what you originally said. You said that there were lots of much bigger mods out there that made fewer base class edits, so I asked you to name one.
You still haven't.

I hardly consider that an attack. You do not sound like someone that has the amount of programming experience you claim to have, and I stated as much. You've made a number of unsubstantiated statements over the course of this conversation, especially in relation to code, that makes it highly unlikely in my mind that you actually have that much experience. It's a factual statement of my perception of the situation.
I may not have been polite about it, but I also viewed the point about the "bigger mods" that you made bordering on insulting to begin with given that it belittles the functionality of this one (which is why I keep asking you to clarify), and given the massive wall of text that you initially posted, I immediately put a mental-label of "Troll?" next to your user name (which I still have not fully removed).
I generally don't "attack" people without cause. I tend to treat them as they treat me, and you've come across as rude since the first post you made above. If that is the result of a personality disorder, as you seem to indicate that it is, that's fine man. However, I have absolutely no way of knowing that.

I am attempting to find the place I stated that, what was the location? A search is not revealing.
Only place I said the word big and its various forms was in reference to redstone size... Hmm, please point it out and I can clarify.

I am still not seeing where you see I said 'bigger mods', and I have edited out no text in any of my posts, all edits have been adding in and have been clearly marked as such. If that is the reason you think I insulted you, I would really like to clarify it as that was never my intention. I will still continue to use BTW on an SSP world and set up an SMP server if/when it is ported to do so.

I apologize for my initial paraphrase, but given that my eyes were watering after wading through your first post, I didn't have enough will to live remaining to go back and find the exact quote.
And you've gone from "Troll?" to "Troll." I give you bonus points however given the dedication you exhibit to your art form with these massive posts.

in the Rar, the files going into the Minecraft.jar are in a folder called MINECRAFT-JAR. because of this, the patcher puts the files into the minecraft.jar in a folder called MINECRAFT-JAR.
in short: you need to zip the files from Minecraft-jar, but you should not include that folder.
Mcpatcher chooses the file placement like this :
the files DIRECTLY in the ZIP are DIRECTLY in the .jar. files in a folder are put in that folder in the .Jar. etc etc etc.
I tried that, but none of it works :/ Plus, I never really got to that part..the problem is somewhere in the "Minecraft Forge" file, but I can't find anything..do I have to put the "forge" folder in separately? Or do I just put the whole Minecraft Forge file in?
Come on Mojang API! May you have the depth and breadth to satisfy all comers (snicker, lulz ). The API wars have claimed too many comrades.
It's unlikely if Notch follows through with his stated plans for the API (which was just to release the source for the game). However, I did see something about him being in touch with the Bukkit guys recently that gave me some small hope.

Well how he "Forgot about it" for release 1.0.0 kind of crushes whats left of my green squishy algae/boiled spinach heart.
Bukkit is lovely though, i'm running it on a piece of equipment in my electronics laboratory. Go Debian!

I can honestly understand him postponing it to post-release man. The release was after all about the game itself, whereas the mod-API is a supplemental feature that does not affect people that have just purchased the game. It probably doesn't even affect most users.
I'm certainly not defending how he prioritized all the tasks for release (like Enderdragons), but I do think pushing the mod API was the right move. It's pretty typical for commercial games to release such APIs after the game itself.
I've also seen info indicating that they seem to be considering it a priority for the near future, so all is not lost.

Why??! Why my piggy?! I loved-ed you, piggy! I loved-ed you!
Well, there is a silver lining here for me: At least there exists versions of Optifine and Better Than Wolves that are compatible. Had this decision to drop Forge support been made before 1.8, there probably never would've been a way to play BTW without the game hanging on this laptop. So at least BTW was and will remain playable for me in some state.
I'm off to go read this forum thread people keep mentioning...
(actually, Optifine is Forge-optional, so it might still work unless BTW modifies any of the renderer classes)
Oh, and OvermindDL1, lemme tell you something I learned about declaring you have a social disability on the internet:
1. The vast majority of people don't care.
(the remaining minority would be those who are familiar with or have the disability in question).
2. "I lack the mental facilities to tell when I am coming across as rude" is not a good excuse for coming across as rude. Crazy, I know.
Also, in the interest of disclosure, I am in that aforementioned minority of people who care. (not that anyone cares...)
Edit: Oh that's right, there's a reason I visited this thread today! I made something!
It's a greenhouse for use in HCB mode.
Just lead some aboveground water (try an Extreme Hills biome) onto one of the non-glass portions of the roof and it waters everything!
...of course, then when I was finished messing around in creative mode and ready to play the game, I realized I could just build a greenhouse in the top layer of water and not have to worry about channeling anything.
I just wanted to officially announce that I am withdrawing support for the Forge and will begin the process of removing its use from Better Than Wolves.
Ouch. I'm a long time lurker to this forum, and I have to say that this decision is very disappointing for me. The very first Minecraft mod that I ever installed was RedPower, and the second was Better Than Wolves. Both are brilliant mods, and using them, I built this elevator. I guess that I'll have to live without it in the future.
I understand that you have your reasons, and of course, you have the right to do whatever you want with your mod. It's still disappointing that I'll be forced to choose between two of my favorite mods, but it is what it is I guess. I would have lost interest in vanilla MC long ago if it weren't for a few of the fantastic mods available.
I'm not sure what else to say other than thanks for all of the work that you've done creating this mod.

Well how he "Forgot about it" for release 1.0.0 kind of crushes whats left of my green squishy algae/boiled spinach heart.
Bukkit is lovely though, i'm running it on a piece of equipment in my electronics laboratory. Go Debian!
Y U INVADOR ZEEM?
On a much more related note, hope to see MCforge and this updated soon! "Rotators" Mod is a horrible substitute for a windmill.
You fool, I am just an ordinary dirt child worm baby!
Blast you, FlowerChild! You and your infernal reason for invalidating my fear, uncertainty and doubt.
It's a greenhouse for use in HCB mode.
...of course, then when I was finished messing around in creative mode and ready to play the game, I realized I could just build a greenhouse in the top layer of water and not have to worry about channeling anything.
is this for 1.0.0 yes yes i know it said 1.8.1 but it also said enderdragons which only come in 1.0.0
I believe these shall answer all your questions:
Baked them myself. :smile.gif:
Damn. Here I am handing out McDonald's Pie and you're baking home-made brownies for these guys?
Well played :smile.gif:
