I don't know if this is practical or not, but, mabye the booster track could could apply force to any minecart that is on top of it when it is activated. Currently the force is applied only when the track is active and the cart already has momentum but this way, if you have a minecart stopped on a booster track, activating it would send your cart along.

Whats better than wolves? Better Than Wolves
It's BETTER THAN WOLVES!!
Did I mention that there are no wolves?

Yeah, I thought about that when designing it. The problem is that if it boosts a stationary cart, then it needs to be directional.
Not only does this require the player to orient it (and for me to put in the code to orient it :wink.gif: ), but it also forces the construction of a 2nd set of tracks if you want to be able to travel in both directions.
It's a trade-off, for sure, but I decided to go with only boosting moving carts for those reasons, and leave it to the player to either construct an initial booster (like using a door-design), or just give it a little push :smile.gif:
I might be open to the idea of having some kind of mechansim to give the initial push, but that's something already covered by the piston mod, and if I were to do something like that, I'd like it to be a little more general purpose and be applicable to other in-game situations as well.
Update: I've added a block-dispenser idea to the OP. Check it out. I think this is a real gem with a *huge* amount of potential for player-created mechanisms.
i double post is when you post in a thread twice in a row, no matter what you are saying. if nobody has posted, than one reply should be able to comment on all past posts, and if you notice a past post to reply to, editing should suffice. double posts come across as shameless bumping. So stop doing it please good sir. on most forums it isnt allowed, it probably isnt allowed on this forum either but it isnt very well moderated.

Fair enough. I'll attempt to reign it in, but I suspect there are times when convenience will outweigh other considerations with this one. I'm jumping back and forth between coding the mod and posting to these forums, and most of my posts involve genuine and informative updates, so whether or not they also provide an unintended self-bump is a secondary consideration.
Can you please clarify whether or not Modloader support is now included in the current download link? Ideally, this information should be included in the first post. I see that you state it is a completed feature, but it is listed after the feature description for version 1.1. I know it's mentioned on page 4, but it is not clear in the first post. I also looked in the readme, but there is no mention there.

Sorry about that man. I thought that it being listed under "intended features" would be indication enough.
Modloader support is currently "completed" as a feature (as of last night) to be included in the next release (1.01) of this mod. I have one more thing I want to get in before releasing (the bomb blocks), and will likely be posting up the new version tonight (mountain time). I'll update the subject of this thread to indicate modloader support when that happens.
At your request, I've updated the OP to include specific mention of this immediately after the download link, to avoid any further confusion.

And thank you kindly too :smile.gif:

Glad to hear about the ModLoader support! It was the only thing holding me back from fiddling with this mod in detail. Thank you for helping me with my ongoing quest to make the Nether useful in single player, and please continue to help round out some of the missing features in this game. -- Especially when it comes to Nether-usefullness, a sign of a dropped area if I ever saw one.
I've been programming for two years now, and I appreciate the work that must have gone into this, and appreciate the extra effort you took to take advantage of the ModLoader functionality.

Agreed. I currently have a written list of all the items and blocks in the game that have very limited use at present, and whenever I'm trying to come up with a recipe, I consult that list to try and come up with a use for some of those materials, that also fits the logic of the device in question.
The nether is a big one obviously (which is why many of my recipes so far have focused on it), but there are a TON of others as well. For example, the next block to be implemented, the Bomb Block, will use obsidian to encase the TnT (since the harder the substance containing an explosive, the bigger the resulting blast).
However, having said that, I've yet to come up with a mechanical application for fish :smile.gif:

You're very welcome man. I will say that Modloader support was probably the biggest task I've performed yet on this Mod, so I very much hope that it really increases people's enjoyment of it. It took me close to a full day of solid work to iron out all the kinks, and given the lack of documentation and trial and error involved, it wasn't a pleasant day in the least :wink.gif:
P.S. I think you might want to consider changing your sig to say "wolf" instead of "sheep" :wink.gif:
[**********UPDATE***************]
I've completed the various forms of Minecart Plate blocks and have included a little demo video in the OP.
Fish Oil : (uses could include lighting, or possibly an intermediate ingredient for something that would work well with oil)
Fish Glue: (Some sort of intermediate recipe for something that would require glue)

Hehe...true enough, although I seem to already have lighting and glue ingrediants worked into the rationale of the recipes (glowstone for light, slime balls for glue).
Maybe if I include some kind of mob repelling block at some point, I could throw a dead fish into the recipe :wink.gif:

As soon as I read the title, I knew what it meant. It's the fact that you didn't pay attention that caused you to misunderstand.
As for the mod, I think it's a great one, and look forward to the completion of it, and hope Mojang begins to include stuff like this. The wolves are a cool feature, but I would really like to see Mojang do more things like this mod does.

Light block has already been done. Good try though.
Did you notice there's more than one feature? Nice try at being dismissive and condescending though :smile.gif:
Many of us have been frustrated by the focus on rather frivolous features (ahem...wolves) in recent Minecraft updates. This Mod actually spawned out of a thread in these forums discussing easy to implement features that were sorely lacking from the main game, that folks would rather have seen in those updates.
There are plenty of features that have been added that I don't care for. The Nether, music blocks , and wolves, but alot of people love those features and don't like some of the features that appeal to me. That's life, everyone has different tastes.
To call features that you personally don't care for 'frivolous' is just rude. I could call your mods frivolous because they don't appeal to me, but I'm aware that not everything is about 'me'. Perhaps you should drop the attitude of entitlement and change the mod title to something that's not misleading.
Ok, I respect your opinion not to like wolves. They're... frivolous lol. Buuuut I also think this mod looks awesome. Compromise? lol But really, Notch and Mojang are allowed their freedom to create what they want in the game. It may still be beta, but it is their game. We choose to play it :wink.gif:
Anyways, any particular steps needed for macs? Currently my mac will almost load up and then freeze, so not sure if I just did something wrong or what...

How's the title misleading? Opinionated maybe, but I don't see it telling people it's something it's not. It would be like saying that someone who called their mod "Bob's awesome mod!" was somehow being misleading.
I also don't see what you're talking about with the "attitude of entitlement". I didn't like the new features Mojang were releasing in their updates, so I did something about it in creating this mod instead of just bitching. I think that behaviour is that exact opposite of what someone acting out of a sense of entitlement generally implies.
To quote the Princess Bride: "I don't think that word means what you think it does".
And the big difference between you calling my mod frivolous, and me calling Mojang's newest features frivolous, is that you didn't pay for my mod, and are in no way my customer. I am commenting on features in a commercial product, and for games in particular, that's an everyday occurence in the form of reviews. You, on the other hand, are commenting on a service that I am providing free of charge to the community. So who's being rude?
Anyways, one sweet aspect of my position as a hobyist, is that seeing as how you are not a paying customer of mine, I can call you a jack-ass in retaliation, and tell you that "if you don't like it, don't use it", without fear of hurting my revenue stream :smile.gif:
...as I'm still considering the impact it would have on the game.
^ if anyone's still convinced after the silver discussion and this quote that Flower is an immature idiot...get out.
Flower, be careful not to get annoyed by those who disrespect; unfortunately many of your biggest fans will download and never post.
Also, heads up, looks like some of your/feanorith's minecart ideas are being put into vanilla with pistons. Although I'm sure they'll do very few of them, maybe only like one tile.
