I mean just zombies and skeletons and only if they are like 1 blocks from it. the light block is very bright it should be able to do burn damage to the mobs who are hurt be sun light. just an Idea it seemed realistic to me.
As specified earlier today, I ignore suggestions for a number of reasons.
One that I forgot to mention, is that sometimes they're just bad ideas.
Although I was okay with the camera-based placement, I'm glad to be able to use my ideal method.
By the way, I'm supposed to be on a break from Minecraft, but you're making it pretty difficult. At your next update, I'm gonna have to put Supreme Commander on hold and go try all these cool new toys! So much for my RTS phase... ;P

Dude, Total Annhiliation was my all-time favorite RTS, with Supreme Commander being a close 2nd (only because I haven't had a chance to play it as much).
One of my fondest, funniest gaming moments was way back when in a game of TA!
Oh yeah, that was a classic. That's why I hunted down its descendant. Doesn't have crazy amount of different units like TA, but the epic feel of the game is still there. Anyway, I'll stop with my offtopic and call it a day. Goodnight everyone.

I love the ideas for rope and axles, and I really wish that people had done something like this sooner. Also, although I have not downloaded/played yet, I do see one particularly crucial part that is missing. What if you had two pulleys connected over a chasm by rope, with the means to power them on each end, and a platform on the rope? I would think that that fits in with the rest of the mod perfectly. Two more things as well, one much harder than the other. The simplest suggestion is craftable saddles, for obvious reasons. Also, making saddled pigs not de-spawn, and even making them controllable mounts would be terrific. The harder idea would be making saddled pigs attachable to carts, so you can carry extra supplies into mines and extra loot out.

SPAAAAAAAAAAAACE!

:sad.gif: not cool but sure whatever its your mod
thats why its called a quick idea its fast but lacks in logic.
New idea with added Logic.... (well sorta)
ok can you make a block that reacts to light level like your detector block but for light so the pulley gates will open every morning and close every night. it would have 2 setting to have it activate with light or dark. lets say it would activate if it detect a light level 1 more than a torch and deactivate with a light level just before bad mobs can spawn.
Think it over seems pretty cool to me.
it would probably be made like this.
= detector block
= light block
= red stone
= gear
planks (duh)
or maybe use the lens block instead of a light block.
What do you think?
And that's why I ignore most ideas that fit into that catagory. You were fishing for an answer man, and you got one.
I have no shortage of things to work on. Ideas that don't fit into the mod, or which don't really serve a useful purpose, or which would take more time to develop then they are worth, or which are just plain lame, get ignored as a result and only serve to create additional noise on the thread.
Generally, I can do without quick ideas. If they're brilliant, I'd love to hear them, but unfortunately most people think all their ideas are brilliant.
As for the light-sensor, that's already a planned feature of the Dectector Block in combination with the Lens.

Hehe...I think it hasn't been done before because:
a) to do it right, you basically need a mechanical system already in place. I've already invested a metric ****-ton of work into this mod just to get it to that point.
It was an f-ing ***** to pull off in and of itself
Which leads to the horizontal pulley systems you're talking about:
It's an obvious extension to the system, but WAAAAAAAY too much work for right now man. It's not just a simple matter of tacking it on to the pulley system and there you go. I suspect it would at least double the amount of work I've already put into it (which was 40+ hours and I'm still ironing out all the kinks), and I'm just not willing to do that right now.
@FlowerChild:
Would it be possible for the gearboxes input to align with any axle it is placed against?
Anyone have a decent design for an automated multi floor elevator? I'm currently working on a deluxe(doors open automatically) automatic four floor cage design, but the wiring is proving to be a nightmare to keep nice and compact. At the moment the shaft with car and wiring is about 12x12, the controller and hardware will all be on one floor. The controller will be some D flip flops with a digital comparator controlling the direction and brake of the pulley system.
y pulley not working? the rope goes down when not powered but when powered its not going back up.
Because it is not powered with redstone, but mechanically. Read the description in the OP, along with the descriptions for the Axle, Gear Box, and Water Wheel.
-Changed the crafting recipes for Platforms to use Wicker for the top and bottom surfaces.
-Adjusted the rendering of Platforms to fit the change to the Wicker recipe.
-Added custom inventory renderer for the Platform.
-Changed Mill Stone texture to make it more obvious that it needs to be powered from the top or bottom.
-Fixed Block Detector not being able to see moving Anchors and Platforms.
-Added config file setting to change the way Gear Boxes place so that the output faces away from you.
-Changed the Detector Block recipe to use one lapis block instead of two.
-Added *small* chance that Hemp Seeds will drop when you destroy tall grass.
-Changed the way items pass over filtered Hoppers. They no longer need to descend a level to continue.
-Changed the way mechanical devices update there state to try to avoid problems with them falling out of sync. This affects the Gear Box, the Hopper, and the Pulley.
-Fixed items popping on top of Platforms when they are lowered onto them.
-Food is now turned into "Foul Food" when you put Dung into a Heated cauldron with it.
Guys, if you are having problems with getting elevators to work (or any of the mechanical devices), I've posted a video (massive thanks to Blithen and Battosay) right at the top of the 1st page of this thread that should explain everything you need to know.
Ello, would you being adding this on Bukkit in the future? Cuz my server would really be great with this. Didnt totally think of this idea, but here, what if you make a new rope? or a new pulley? Just to be able to carry heavyer blocks, ive made some gates and other stuff, but if i would be able to add more stuff on it, that would be great, or if i putted more pulleys together if would be able to carry more. Just a though.

Respect :smile.gif:
Read the description of the axle in the OP, then read the description of the Gear Box.
As for your crash, you'll have to provide more information than that. What other mods you have installed, etc.

and thanks I didnt know that about the lens/detector thing thank you.

I've already explained the revisions I've made to Gear Box placement for the next release an hour or two ago.
