Just a quick update since I'd lasted posted about starting up an LP series. For the foreseeable future I'll need to put the project on hold. I've run into a host of personal issues offline and won't have access to a quiet place in which to attempt recording until I can find a new place to live.Apologies for bringing the offline world into this, but I don't want anyone to think I just haphazardly dropped it.
Thanks for the update man. Sorry to hear of your troubles.
Explain to me lakes of exposed lava then. I'm pretty sure there's more than just one square lava blocks out in the open. I've come across more than a few of them - there was even a small one not far from one of my bases before I filled it in. Also, what do you mean by "lavafalls (one square only) exactly?
The lava in those is usually one or two blocks below the ground level. The one in the blacksmith is three or so above the ground, so the blacksmith wasn't built around a lava lake...
And by "lavafalls", I mean that when we find lava above the ground level, it's usually from those lava waterfalls coming from mountains, but there's only one source block there, not two like in the blacksmith; so it wasn't built around those either.
Maybe the Testificates could once indeed move source lava... but lost the how-to. NPCs are dumb after all
Nice kiln, by the way. How many hibachis are you using?

Me and a friend have been talking FC specifically about your power system i get it now. I look at all these mods now with power generation becomes a cumulative effect and gating is based on how much energy you can produce. With your shaft power its not really a power system its a structure you need to progress there is nothing better between the ways you generate power its just a mechanic that your machines need to use, a structure that is there to turn the shafts and get the gears moving that's all its needed for. The machines don't care how much power they are receiving, they just need the power to be there period. Power networks and generation and storage is just a waste of cpu power. You really did get it right man. It brings something to minecraft that makes sense. I appreciate the way you understand what minecraft should have been, now that i look back on everything i understand why you made these decisions.
Its a shame none of the 1.9 features like particles are no longer entities so performance is much better seem to excite you. Or the being expanded end. or changing weapon speeds, or like a sword in one hand and a torch in another. The new weapons/shields could add a lot to pvp, Pve, boss fights. The new beast they are trying to make the ender dragon become.
It seems like stuff that could shake things up. Change a lot in battle. Even enemies might have a shield. Imagine how annoying to take down a witch could be who hides behind a shield or a blaze who hides behind one. Now even zombie villagers turn into zombies of their profession and back again.
Maybe one update, one day will excite you enough to update. But 1.9 seems like its adding a lot of useful stuff for a mod like this over say 1.8 .
I highly doubt Flowerchild will ever update the game past 1.5.2, as he has stated in the past that there is no need for it.
If a feature gets added to a newer version of the game that he likes, it's likely that he'll just incorporate it into the mod and stay at 1.5.2, rather than wasting a huge amount of time updating to a new version, ripping out everything, and keeping the 1 single feature that he liked.
IIRC Flowerchild ripped out every single feature added in 1.5.2 when he updated to that version.

I personally enjoy the newer updates, but I don't think they fit in with BTW. And even if there was something FC wanted in the newer updates he could just add it to the mod. I wouldn't be the first time, he has added optimization from versions of the game.
Speaking of FC, I forgot to ask him about bows. D:
The skeletons in the mob tower seem to drop bows 100% of the time (exaggeration) and I keep having to check and make sure my last chest isn't filled up with bows and stopping more important loot (iron) from being saved. I have filters for other chests, but is there a filter specific for bows that I missed?
And if there isn't, I don't suppose you would consider making bows stackable at some point in a future update? Probably not I suppose as I'm not sure if that might screw up bows on the hotbar, but it would be nice to not have to worry about them
If I remember right, I set bows to incinerate harmlessly in the crucible, so you can just dump them in there with your other single-stack tools that you're going to melt down to get rid of them. I know there is a hopper filter for single stack items, but can't remember which off hand.
That's the simple solution to the above problem, but also, there is an additional filter you can use there to separate bows from other single-stack items like iron tools: buoyancy.
And yeah...any item that has durability can't be stackable, as the same variable that tracks stack size also contains hit points depending on the item.
How do folks. I feel, in my bones, that this is the right place to ask the following question, even if it has been asked many times before spread across the internet, which I do not doubt it has.
I haven't played Minecraft since 2011 and I done bailed out of that right proper quick once I noticed that it was becoming a "my name is 'Youraveragegmedesigner' and my mission is to appease the masses of children asking for our game to look more like 'this', and play more like 'that'!" kinda game...
I'm feeling the hippety-hopping of my butt back into the game, and it's gotta be in some kinda of alpha or beta version. Is there a way I can pick and choose certain changes from later points? Say, if I wanted to play Beta 1.3 would I be able to somehow implement the weather effects from 1.5? I assume that would require some modding, but perhaps for something like my desire to en-rarify the quantities of diamond and coal n' all that throughout the world I would be able to do that with some kind of file-editting?
I understand that I should do my own research instead of opting for someone else to do the thinking, but that is not the reason that I am here asking my questions. I have come to realise that actual (and when it comes to the internet) sub-par human interaction is more wholesome and helpful than google-interaction! Also, I remember placing a bad taste on TES: Oblivion years ago after spending so much time, leading up to playing, modding and googling which mods I should employ. Simple as this: if you've got the time, and you've got the care, answer me!
But aye, I be feelin' some kind of difficult experience. It is more than the nostalgia. The simple difficulty of the early days is what I loved. This enchanting/hunger bar business seemed like it was some kind of halfassed, poorly thought out attempt taking the realism up a notch. I'm allured by this mod, and am only hesitant to play it for the reason that enchanting and sprinting n' all that is still in the game, and no doubt that stupid Night Vision potion (don't tell me that I can simply avoid it! It's like telling an adventurous soul that to pretend that there isn't a bridge going over that river they're trying to cross, as they contemplate crafting a raft).
I recall seeing a video of BTW years ago- an old version, of course. Was there a version of it pre-hungerbar update that achieved the respective overhaul for that version?

I doubt you'd have the same objections to said features within the mod man. BTW has changed significantly over the years, and is really more of a total conversion now that focuses very much on a hardcore survival experience in the early game.
To cover the cases you mentioned, enchanting works in a very different manner than stock, and it's not something you can start doing anywhere near the start of the game. Sprinting consumes hunger like crazy and is really only something you want to do once you've established a surplus of food (which isn't easy), or in really desperate circumstances. Hunger in general is a much more pressing concern rather than just the all you can eat buffet in vanilla. Potion brewing has been largely revamped as well in terms of the ingredients required so putting together something like a night vision potion isn't easy either, and meanwhile darkness pretty much eats you alive
So, yes, each of those features are still in the mod but they either come at a heavy cost, or require a large amount of progress within the game to make use of.
Anyways, I'd recommend giving it a try and making up your own mind. It's rather difficult to discuss if you're only familiar with old versions and/or vanilla, as it's a very different thing from what it used to be.
As for alpha or beta versions of MC, I don't support versions earlier or later than 1.5.2. For rarifying ores or what have you, I sincerely doubt you'd want to do that with BTW anyways, as making forward progress is already cranked up to be quite difficult. For example, while the iron ore frequency isn't changed from stock, each ore only provides a nugget, nine of which are required for an ingot, so you're effectively working with 1/9th the iron that's in stock.
I've had very few (if any) complaints that things are too easy
I've been flappin about with the new minecraft launcher and decided to give your mod a whack anyhow. I'm not all caught up in the excitement that the 'man himself' or whatever has responded to me personally, or whatever-the-crap, but I felt this very pleasant (and almost sexual) sense of relief and happiness when you reassured me that your game would be trying very hard to kill me.
I only wanted to make it clear that I was not under the minor 'starstruck' effect that people experience when being responded to on the internet entirely because I needed you to understand the feeling I felt when finishing the reading of your response with "I've had very few (if any) complaints that things are too easy" (with a winky face to boot), and that it was entirely genuine and unaltered by exaggeration.
I have a terrible feeling that I'm going to be putting Don't Starve on hiatus for this mod, which is a real shame because it's such a lovely game. Ah well. "Heart makes the things grow distant", as they fondly say.

Don't Starve is one of my favorite games of the past few years, so I take that as quite a compliment
I actually got the idea for all the various movement modifiers for different terrain types from its road system working that way. I had a "you know...it would be really cool if you could build your own" moment. I found the design slipped late in development (still don't know what caves were supposed to be for, and I didn't find Reign of Giants really brought anything to the game), but earlier on it was super tight.

Wahaha that's amazing. The very moment I read about that mechanic you'd implemented Don't Starve immediately popped into mind. Top stuff ;P.
I didn't play DS before Reign of Giants. Do you think it is rather pointless, or do you think it damages the game? And you can't be talking down to the caves (hoho); a nice bloody change of scenery is what it offers.
Also, do you have any idea why, when I rename my .jar folder in Versions to my custom name, it does not appear in the Edit Profile section in the launcher? I slippety-slapped your mod into the Jar, deleted META-INF (as always), edited the .json text-file's version ID, asked the computer to "work, you son of a-" (not allowed to swear on Minecraft forums, land of the dandy).
Edit: looking at the launcher now, it's almost like it won't actually show me the modified version file as an option anyway, just what it's always gonna have. It's trying to hide something from me

Little tired at the moment so won't attempt tech support on installation, but the wiki has a really good install guide that goes through the process step by step. It can be a bit tricky, so it's probably worth reviewing:

Eh, I'm not sure ROG damages the game as much as it just didn't really do anything for me. I can't say I was really too into it when my whole base caught fire during the summer, but I suspect I'd get used to it eventually.
I went back to DS right after ROG came out (I think I bought the expansion first day). Unfortunately, I played maybe a handful of hours and had no desire to go back to it again. This is in comparison to the 200+ hours Steam tells me I've played DS in total
I've still never completed adventure mode either, but after having made it all the way to the last level and being plunged into total darkness, I decided that I didn't really think I wanted to go through that again anytime soon.
And yeah, a change of scenery is pretty much all the caves had to offer

Y'know, now I look at it like that, it does seem like it's all just more things to kill, more things to eat and more things to craft. How much of it actually adds more to the experience other than extending the game's lifespan for x=amountofcontentadded hours? Adventure mode scares me a little.
Anyho, it's alright; I've been going through that page and a few others, and I followed them all 100%. It's this stupid freaking Mac I tell you. I've always hated macs. Will continue this in the morning.
Just wanted to say I'm loving the mod and you are doing a great job. Recently I had a run in with a spider and died.
