I may yet see your new spiders. My new world corrupted right after I had 45 iron nuggets. (Power on my computer went out). Maybe next world will start near a jungle.
For paths? I'm still not great at those. If you spawn in the plains where its grass everywhere you can make a grass-less road (its needs to be 4-6 wide to really stand out. With flowers in special patterns here and or dirt. Dirt stepping stones are some of the best indicators you've been in an area early on (especially in extreme hills). I don't destroy spider webs, those mean I've been in or near an area too. If I'm trying to get home and I see animals in the distance, I know I'm not headed the right way usually. Natural landmarks make good temp bases. (Dirt floating in the air can stand out too).
Unless you find a really great biome, I wouldn't worry about not getting lost until you've got enough meat to live at a single location long.
I like to always have glass with me too, it lets me know the time of day while underground.
That world I did a wood slab road instead of underground tunnel and....It took me so much longer to get iron and I was always running out of cobble. Also having to wait in a mid way base a lot for night to pass. Underground tunnel is totally the way to go. Plus you can use the tunnel for mushrooms and chickens if you expand it a little. (Safe way to move animals too.)
So... If BTW has a backstory, then I haven't located it. Can someone tell it to me, or is it too spoilery?
The only one that really knows it is me. I don't believe in story in games in the modern sense, so while there are hints scattered throughout BTW as to what is going on, I never hit the player over the head with it.
There are many posts on the BTW forums discussing theories as to what might be happening.

Is it wrong of me to cheat in a beacon to bind myself too so i can get better at the game without death being an end all factor for me?
Yes, it is terrible. If you are dying so much then you need to adapt to the game, not force the game to adapt to you. The main cause of death in btw from my experience is rushing the game. take it slow, be cautious, and don't let anyhting take you by surprise. Become a better player, cheating only makes you worse. BTW isn't THAT hard, its just a different type of hard.
Finally, a question for yourself, FC. You mentioned also that BTW is close to being "Finalized." Or perhaps it isn't, depending on your thoughts as you progress through the tech-tree. What I would like to ask is, is it likely that any further developments will be as major as the HCW change?
Yup, there are a couple of more rather significant changes to come, but it should be a matter of days before that's done, and only one is likely to affect the early game at all, with the other having more to do with late game automation.
I once loved this mod when it was just about adding cool stuff to the game.
Now this is not enjoyable anymore.
Wind and watermills, winches, gearboxes and all the other mechanical stuff, as much as i loved and miss it, can't compensate all the lates "hardcore features" of this "total conversion". The only feature missing here is "removed Creative mode" (I really wonder when this will be made) hehe.
My world can live without moving mills.
If you dont like vanilla minecraft that much (obviously, else you wouldn't change so much), why dont you make your own survival game already?
He did, it's called Better than Wolves (with harder wood ((heh))

So basically, you enjoy the later game items, but aren't willing to put forth the effort to get there. That sounds like a personal problem.
but if now we need to also have a lot of tree + free food it's likely ppl will just stand afk whith some mushrrom under a roof waiting for a sapling growing because they can't reach the next biome without starving. It just take age (yeah, you need something to burn to be able to eat raw meat).
I sincerely doubt people standing around waiting for mushrooms/saplings to grow is the outcome that will result here, but nice one on the alarmist fantasy.
Also: you can eat raw meat if it comes down to it. Yes, you get food poisoning here and there, but you'll generally experience a net gain overall. I've done it myself many times as an emergency measure in game.
I never thought "I can't find trees!" would be an issue people would seriously complain about in MC, but live and learn

I just can't wait until the journey home.
Me too

FC did, it's called "Better Than Wolves". His own game is in the works too, I hope you give it a shot when it's out, I am.
