I love this update FC. I had always felt there was virtually no point to the diamond tier almost in your mod just because of how by the time you can make a full suit of diamond armor, how the hell don't you have soulforged? I also like the buffs to diamond, makes it a little more worthwhile to upgrade to from iron. Top hat is off to ya for yet another good update.
Thanks man. Yeah, there were a couple of things at play here. First, is that I've been slowly playing through the tech tree in my own world and tweaking as I go. You may have noticed that my changes as of late have been slowly working their way up the progression, and that's because I have been as well
So yeah, when I finally hit SFS, there was a definite "meh" moment there where suddenly almost everything was unlocked all at once and a few things were rendered obsolete almost as soon as they were unlocked. By the old tech progression, back before I went on the Hardcore Rampage, it was fine, as the overall progression was *much* shorter, but by the new, it felt distinctly out of whack.
Secondly, I used to avoid making BTW's progression too dependent on the end dimension because when it first came out, it wasn't guaranteed that old worlds would even have access to the end (since the chunks with the strongholds in them may have already been generated without). Now though, with all the changes I've made since, and for the same reason I mentioned about the HC Buckets change, worlds that old really aren't viable to play BTW in anyways, and there are probably very few of us left with them. Worst case, you can always use MCEdit or something to regenerate at least one chunk to give you a stronghold if sticking with an old world really means that much to you.
When I'm playing I find it a little odd that I start out killing any animals. I get a mix of wool and leather armor and over time upgrade to full leather. But I don't see a use for the old wool armor. I tried to burn it, but it wouldn't go.
Is there another use for it early game I'm not seeing?
What I do (and I do this for most armors that I upgrade, not just wool) is set it off to the side in a chest in case I die and need some quick armor either on my way to find the items I dropped on death, or in case I lose all those items upon death.
In general, the stuff you're mentioning as "odd" in these posts doesn't strike me as so man.
Wait a minute... BTW has a backstory?
Anyways, what I was going to post about in the first place:
*is annoying reporter*
Hello there FlowerChild! I would like to ask you a few questions...
1) What are you planning for RTH? Will it be it's own game, or another mod? Will it be a continuation of BTW, or something else? Will there be enhanced potatoes?
...
Ignore that last one.
2) How do you feel about these new updates, specifically the new flowers/removal of the rose? Oh, those roses, so sweet, so sweet... Maybe they are coming back with another name?
3) When are you planning to open up forum registration again?
4) Harcore hats... Why? They... I... The... I can't say anything else.

I think I don't care anymore
I've made the decision that BTW will stay with 1.5 and not be updating to future versions of vanilla, so whatever Mojang does to it really doesn't bother me.
I have a quick question, if I may. I was wondering, what with the most recent update changing some aspects of the tech tree development and all, were the Mod Instructions back on page one updated to match the changes too? it may be a rookie question, but I figured better to ask than not
I plan to do a full revision of those instructions once the balance is finalized. They're hopelessly outdated at present.
Something else I always wanted to ask, but never got around to it, is - are you going to update the vanilla achievements to match BTW? Or remove them maybe, since they are pretty much unobtainable now anyways.
I don't consider that to be of real concern given how irrelevant achievements are.
No worries, I thought they might be a little out of whack. Good to know it'll be updated though, since I'm still a little shaky on the later tiers. I dunno if that'll make it more difficult, or more fun though
For now, I'd say that when in doubt, either check the wiki, or search the change log in the readme for references to whatever it is you are trying to create.
I fell hopelessly behind in updating the OP at a certain point, and it's become such a big job to bring it up to date that I've been putting it off so as not to distract me from this last push to get BTW finalized.
Leaving on 1.5 is probably really good because well, you don't need to rip out from mojang and that they made the new launcher just after is good cause for any new people they can just download the old launcher and that's it. No searching the internet for a jar when minecraft will still be filled with more crap.
What is the earliest method of feeding chickens? My guess is finding pumpkins?
Yes.
It really depends on how fast you find hemp seeds too. You could spend time finding iron first, then get a hemp farm started. I find that finding pumpkins is the fastest myself.

I think hemp would be the way to go for me. Found an open ravine with a few veins of iron exposed. Also what's the easiest armour to make?
probably either leather or wool depending on your initial spawn animals, then later on it would be wool followed by padding once you get to iron tech. Renewable leather is less of a thing.
hey guys...I've been playing on this one world for about 3ish irl days and I have yet to see any wheat seeds...why is this?
wheat is only available from villages, villages that are extremely far from spawn (so far that you'll really want to use the nether to get out that far). That's by design.

Wait.. Wool? Okay.. Well i tried to craft some booties with the wool ball looking things from sheep and it didn't work so i guess either there isn't wool boots or the recipe for wool armour is different

Yeah, there aren't any socks. Only three wool armor parts.
Thanks! Just corrected that for next release.

Just ask them :]
