i WOULD get this mod if it werent so damn huge, all i want is the windmill, the water wheel, and the thing that sets fire when powered by redstone, that thing is perfect for a fireplace and traps and defense line them up around my house and when a zombie or creeper walks on it, FIRE!!!

To begin with, I'd recommend against other mods. In fact, right here and now, I AM recommending against other mods.
Recently BTW has acquired a large number of features designed to pull minecraft back from the abyss, in many cases nerfing various vanilla features for the sake of ramping up the challenge. Obviously, convenience mods like minimaps (see prevoius post by flower) and TMI make the addition of such challenges pointless. Play the mod through as it is, and then if you still have a craving for overpowered tools, then by all means.
Learning to get along without a minimap is pretty rough after years of having one but it's doable. I keep TMI around because it's nice to have the option of flying around if you just don't want to waste time screwing around when building something way high up. Could easily do without, but sometimes you'd rather just get something boring done in five minutes instead of fifty.
Only mod aside from TMI I use right now is Better World Gen 3, because vMC's terrain generation is boring and crappy. I used to use Marcopolo's mods for ore generation, but I seem to remember it clashing with BWG due to using similar resources.
At any rate, you're right that BTW is increasingly becoming a standalone, self-contained mod these days with FC's fun tweaks to vanilla behaviors, much moreso than it was six months ago.
There are some things I'd love to see happen, but I'm content to be patient and see what FC has in store for us. He hasn't steered us wrong so far, so I guess I have some kind of faith in his ability to generate a high-quality product.
the mod looks really good, minecraft needs to have more challenges and thats precisely what this would add, i however cannot install it as after trying multiple times i keep getting an error saying modloader has failed to initialize
I'm havin' a problem with BTW 4.21.

It runs just fine with modloader only and without any mods at all.
There were no problems with version 4.13, but a friend of mine had had a similar problem in the past.
Problem persists with OpenJDK 6, OpenJDK 7 and Oravle Java 1.7 last version.
I have an ATI Radeon HD video card with open source drivers.
Googling, searching BTW forums and this topic gave me nothing but very small hint to what the problem could be:
Please help, I really want to download this mod but for some reason it is not working. I have downloaded mod loader and this mod, put them both into the minecraft.jar folder and deleted the META-INF folder. When i start minecraft everything works fine but when i try to make a gear it doesn't let me (the gear doesn't pop up in the box). I've tried making multiple worlds both in creative and survival.
Nah, I'm pretty sure I installed it correctly, I'm not that new in installing mods. I tried either MagicLauncher (yes, I did rezip'd MINECRAFT-JAR folder) and manual installation, neither worked.

Have you tried a newer/different version of the Lightweight Java Game Library (LWJGL)?

Almost forgot about this one, but nah, just tried with the newest and got exactly same results.
EDIT: According to aforementioned link, it may be caused by registering textures before creating blocks on some systems. Would be great if someone who has legal access to the code will investigate.

I can't be running to the code every time someone has an install error man, especially when you're the only one that has reported something like this. This is likely an error on your end. Nothing significant has changed about how the mod renders in the last few updates.

Yep, I understand that there was no significant changes, as I said, a friend of mine had exactly the same error with v4.13. I'm just saying that it may be a very subtle bug appearing only under certain circumstances (like item darkening in Too Many Items) that you may be able to fix.
If you won't look to the code, well, sucks to be me, I guess. I'll just wait if the new update will suddenly break cursed circumstances.

I did take a quick look to make sure that the animated fire texture (that was the only thing I could think of that might be related) was being initialized properly, which it is.
The post you linked was basically a noob modder that was using a block in his code before it was created. I really doubt it's related.
You can wait if you like man, but again...this is likely on your end. If I were you, I'd delete by bin directory, run MC to redownload the game, make sure my mods folder is entirely empty, redownload both ML and BTW to make absolutely certain you have the most recent releases of both, and reinstall both paying close attention to the install directions. In particular, make sure you install BTW AFTER ML.
I personally think using any form of fly mod really ruins your own fun.
Yeah, I definitely agree with you there. Developing methods for yourself as a player to do various things is part of the fun of MC. Using a fly cheat would totally kill my sense of immersion, and take away from the sense of accomplishment I feel in building something huge.
I think a lot of people don't really recognize the damage they're doing to their own experience when they use cheats like that.

At first I was like "huh, already did it", but then I tried, and it looks like I'm unable to operate a blanket.
I missed the forge/ folder when I was rezipping (too bad -r is not default zip option).
Thanks man, and forgive me for the trouble, for possible offence, and for me being stupid.
I'm really sorry.

sadly enough i was once stricken with a disease known as SinglePlayerCommands... FlowerChild gave me a new reason to continue playing minecraft and it taught me that inveditors and such are a rampant disease that kills the creativity of the minecraft world...
Wait a second... BWG?????? IIRC that mod has base classes that conflict with the mod, trust me, I checked...

Yep, gr.class and up.class are in both. (And that's strange, 'cause BTW has to do nothing with worldgen, and BWG should have to do nothing with anything except worldgen). I can confirm that when installing BTW over BWG, world generation never terminates, and I think that if done the other way, some functionality from BTW will be lost. I think one may ask BWG author for providing some compatibility, perhaps by limiting functionality.
Sorry for the question, but I just started a new world and the way to check the subject will be long, so I'll just ask: can Soul Urns be thrown by Dispensers? If they are, it enables a reliable way to farm Gunpowder.

I think so, but possibly only block dispensers... I remember Battosay doing something like this in his Hourglass Project way back when...
I'm sure if he did it then he probably has a video on it somewhere... going through his older vids takes almost as much time as reading the WHOLE op (not that I haven't) though.
Thank god FlowerChild isn't the type of modder who adds tons of pointless new ores and ridiculous worldgen like some do!

Isn't a more reliable (and less costly) way to farm gunpowder just building an overworld mob-trap?
Not that I am suggesting you do so mind you, at least not just for gunpowder. I'll be completely reworking how explosives function in MC in the near future.

Notch said that about a year and a half ago. Your information is very outdated.
