Holy crap, Dynamic lighting is amazing! A total game changer! Makes exploring caves so much cooler and gives a really good use to the off hand! Well done, my hats off to you!

Is it still possible to build and run a jar containing vanilla, Optifine, and my own small personal mod (let's assume no conflicts)? I would really prefer to not run Forge at all, let alone migrate my stuff. This has worked nicely for me since around 1.2.5, through 1.8.4, but thus far I've been unsuccessful with 1.9.4.
I got MCP working for 1.9.4, updated my code, and I can add it to a vanilla jar. As long as I disable download in the json, it works fine. But I haven't been able to combine my stuff with Optifine.
For the latest attempt, I created a clean non-Forge Optifine version, ran it once, then added my files to the jar that was used for that version. I also disabled download in the json (the one created by Optifine, so I am launching the tweaker class). But the jar gets rebuilt anyway, and my stuff disappears. I believe it only gets rebuilt if I've added files, so it feels like Optifine itself is displeased with the checksum or something, but I really don't understand this general process very well (it's not even clear to me that the Optifine files are in that jar).
I also tried MagicLauncher (instead of the official launcher) briefly, got it running with Optifine only, but it appears that "mods" have to be at least ModLoader-compatible, which I'm not, so it doesn't recognize my jar of a few modified base classes.
Is there a simple solution? I'm really itching to play with the new torch lighting, and instead I've apparently wasted most of the last day and half messing with this, when I should have been reading up on Forge... Thanks.
When I turn vsync on it goes up to ~950 fps. Whats up with that? Also without vsync I get massive screen tearing even when the fps limit is set to 60.
Can you post a screenshot of your fps slider? Putting the fps slider at 60 fps doesn't mean it's set to v-sync, you have to drag the slider all the way to the left then it's set to v-sync.

Hey sp614x do you think you could add a uniform for the players render distance? I would like to have fog adjust to the render distance instead of players having to put it in manually.
uniform float near; near viewing plane distance
uniform float far; far viewing plane distance

So I'm having a few problems with the color of water, specifically underwater. It was working fine before 1.9, but but it's colorless:
Also, when water is above a piece of glass, if you stand under it the water is also uncolored. As I said before this worked fine before 1.9. Is there something wrong with my colormaps? Pack can be foundHERE
The intel graphics driver has crashed.
You can try to:
- update graphics driver
- disable VBO
- Video Settings -> Other -> Reset Settings
Please adapt the new Forge method to fix the excessive memory usage. optifnine 1.9 causes crashes with other mods

There's an incompatibility between preview version H6 Ultra for 1.8.9 and Better Foliage 2.0.11 (Forge 1855)
The game loads the Minecraft menu (with Singleplayer, Multiplayer etc. buttons) and immediately crashes.
This happens both with, and without custom resourcepacks loaded.
I had all video settings maxed out before adding BF, so I deleted all 3 options files and tried again with the same result.
Should I report this to BetterFoliage as well (since this is a preview version I'm not sure who needs to address it)? Let me know.

Tested "preview_OptiFine_1.8.9_HD_U_H6_pre.jar" , there seems to be a variable conflict .Maybe fixed for final version

Your GPU control panel has probably been set to override game settings.
What's your GPU... nVidia? AMD?

That happens with BetterFoliage, I reported it to that mod's thread today.
How to deal with ignorance (in life, and on forums): The Zen way... Stay cool and polite, treat people as you wish to be treated, rise above your impatience. Everyone is ignorant of something at any point in their lives, including you.

I get 900+ fps with vsync selected. Latest version for 1.9.4. Screenshot attached.
