Go to the folder where you store your Resource Packs for the game named Resource Packs
Inside, search for the Resource Pack you're having issues, right click it and open it with WinRar;
Next, double-click the folder Assets
Next, double-click the folder Minecraft
Next, double-click the folder MCPatcher
Inside the MCPatcher folder:
-double-click the folder colormap to open it
-Next, inside you must have a file named birch.png
-Next, right-click the file birch.png and hit copy
-Next, right-click on your desktop and hit paste
-Finally delete the birch.png file inside the folder colormap
Re-launch the game and test if it's fixed
Omg! Omg! Thank you kind person! This would have continued to bother me and I haven't been using Optifine because of it But anyways thank you! It worked and now my Birch trees can live again! It works it works! Hehe!
I decided to remap the sprint key from Ctrl to "R". It's handy, close to "W" and easy to use. This let me keep the zoom function on Ctrl where I'm used to finding it.
Video Settings -> Performance -> Chunk Updates per Frame -> 5
It should load chunks 5 times faster, but the FPS may get a bit unstable.
Also Dynamic Updates -> ON to load chunks faster when standing still.
You've just reminded me. Some of the tooltips you had on the options are now gone (they were there quite a long time ago).
Quality
Mipmap levels
Mipmap type: Missing description for bilinear and trilinear (I only found these two values by mistake)
Detail
Held item tooltips (probably not needed)
Translucent blocks
Performance
Chunk updates per frame
Fast math
Fast render
Animations
Nothing here has them, but it might be worth telling users why water/lava both have a dynamic value
Other
3D anaglyph (pretty obvious when you turn it on anyway)
I also have a question about the smooth FPS option. What does this tell the graphics driver to change? I ask because this combined with/without VSync produce some various effects, and again between windowed and fullscreen mode. My screen resolution is always 1600x1200 at 60Hz.
Windowed mode:
VSync on, smooth on: Frame rate always down at 30FPS (half refresh rate). Mouse input lag is highly noticeable.
VSync off, smooth on: Frame rate hovers around the cap. Some input lag noticeable.
VSync on, smooth off: Frame rate around 57FPS. No input lag. No blips in lagometer.
VSync off, smooth off: Frame rate hovers around the cap. No input lag. No blips in lagometer.
Fullscreen mode:
VSync on, smooth on: Frame rate always at 60FPS. Tiny amount of input lag noticeable, but movement is very smooth and pleasant (ideal).
VSync off, smooth on: Frame rate hovers around the cap, disgusting tearing. Same input lag as above.
VSync on, smooth off: Frame rate always at 60FPS. No input lag, but movement is a bit jagged. Lagometer also shows a lot of blips.

I really think there is something wrong with AMD's OpenGL drivers though, not Optifine or Minecraft. I did bring this up with them but they claimed it was the games at fault, despite there being more than one game having very similar and reproducible issues. Alarm bells should be ringing when my previous GPU (nVidia GTX 560Ti, Gigabyte overclocked 1GB edition) gave better and smoother framerates in pretty much all OpenGL based games.
Using RadeonPro has helped out to improve the OpenGL situation a bit, but it's still not as good as it was with my previous GPU.
GPU is an AMD R9 280X (Sapphire Vapor-X overclocked 3GB edition), tried a range of drivers from 11.something to 13.12. The R9 280X is pretty much just a tweaked and rebranded/relaunched HD7970.
I can provide you with some profiling results if you want them, but as I said I suspect this isn't your/Mojang's fault.
Hm. Not sure if the hostile mobs fix is working as intended. I do see zombies, but there doesn't seem to be as many spawning naturally. Same with spiders. They also don't seem as aggressive. I have yet to see any skellies or slimes either.
I don't know, maybe it's just my imagination. I'll continue to test.
I downloaded 1.7.2 HD_U_B4 and mob spawn is crap.... I caved for 2 hours in extreme hills in a very complex cave system and saw a creeper, 2 skeletons and not one zombie. I did see 2 spiders but do not count them because they were in a room with a spawner. Thought this was fixed in this version?

Yep... I'm still having problems with this as well. ...

One other thing I noticed is that if I spend time at my XP farm and leave mobs in the kill area they do not seem to despawn... even going like 400 blocks away. I come back and those mobs are still there.
I'm not sure if you read his tweets correctly. He said they are not removing capes supplied by other mods, because they can't, don't care, and they only work if all participants have that mod anyway. Someone even queried this in the replies and it got cleared up.

Mobs tend to not de-spawn any more (and haven't since one of the beta versions).

I think that what you are refering to is mobs that are holding something.... This became a problem with the chicken jockeys update.... The chickens do not despawn and continue to lay eggs and as zombies spawn in those areas, pick up the eggs they will never despawn. I have no issues with mobs that are not carrying something failing to despawn in 1.7.2 or any really unless I am in one of the 2 latest Optifine updates.
1.6.4 Ultra and Standard are still crashing FTB modpacks
and Light still feels like a placebo (no real FPS gain)
seriously, testing on vanilla minecraft isnt enough, you need to test popular modpacks as well and update installation steps if they are needed

Its FTB, and any other modpack creator worth their salt, who should be making sure their modpacks work with this.
Anyone give me a clue what this means? I have only latest 6.4 optifine and forge 965. It seems to show only when I add a recourse/texture pack. Any help would be appreciated.

Unfortunately, I didn't know even that such a forum exists Only thanks to you I figured out where to look for any files to delete. Thanks a lot.
If you think it should've been done by now, why don't you update it yourself? Oh, I bet you don't even know how to code, nevermind.
Thanks.

If it says compatible with forge 965, then it should still work with any forge release, 965 and up, it won't work backwards though.

The OptiFine capes will continue to work in 1.8, as usual.

most modders already said they aernt updating to 1.7, so good luck with that
its complete arrogance thinking a modpack creator is gonna conform to the whims of a single mod
it ALSO has to play well in the sandbox with others
granted, im not saying the modpack creators shouldnt at least try, but even they only have so much they can do when its the code at fault
