Hey everybody I tried opening the 1.14.4 Jar, but instead of something I could run I got these folders instead:
Could anyone tell me what I did wrong? I am trying to get multiplayer minecraft working before the end of this month because some of my friends are having a Hermitcraft-esque server from the beginning of september and I really, REALLY want to join them and am doing my best to find a way for my game to not crash within 5 seconds of playing on the server.

What resource packs, if any, are you using? (And if you're just using the "Programmer Art" resource pack included with Minecraft by default, note that connected texture support for that was not in OptiFine before version 1.14.4 HD U F3; If you're using a version of OptiFine from before then, that may be a problem.)
Ive no idea what the Programmer Art is. I am using voxelmap, roughly enough items, villager hats which doesnt work and i'm using Better Leavesw and Faithful resource packs, Also Optifine is up to date

Based on a very quick check, it seems that the official Faithful resource pack for 1.14.4 does not contain connected glass textures.
I suggest going to... https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/texture-packs/faithful-jappa-ctm-glass-32x/files ...and clicking "Download" by the "Additional Files" > "Normal Version" section.
About 5 seconds later, it should either automatically download a .zip file, or ask you whether or not to download it. Once it's downloaded, move the .zip file to your resource packs folder, enable that resource pack in-game, and move it above Faithful itself in the priority list thing.
I had never installed a Minecraft mod before a few days ago, and had some trouble getting OptiFine to work. So now I have a handy tip for newcomers. I don't know where else to put it, so I'll post it here.
Since no-one these days has Java installed, they can't just double-click on the .jar file to run it and let it install easily. However, since Minecraft has its own Java bundled in, you don't have to ruin your life by installing the full Java on your PC! Do this instead:
Use the Windows file explorer (Win+E) to navigate to where you installed Minecraft (find the "Minecraft Launcher" folder).
Go into the "runtime" subfolder, then the "jre-x64" subfolder or whatever it is, then the "bin" subfolder.
Press F4 to edit the path, wipe all that text, and just type cmdand press enter.
Now you'll have a command-line window whose current directory is already this "bin" folder.
To make things easy, copy the OptiFine jar you downloaded into this same "bin" folder.
In the cmd window, type java -jar OptiFine_1.14.4_HD_U_F2.jar (or whatever the exact filename is. Tip: after typing "opti" you can press tab to autocomplete). Instead of doing step 5, you could use the full path to wherever the jar is.
Now the mod should have installed itself successfully.
Hello, I have a suggestion for the Optifine downloads page. From a file integrity and security perspective, it wouldn't hurt to include a SHA-3 hash next to each of the downloads. For those of us who care, we can use it to verify integrity, and for those of us who don't care, we can just ignore it. When I download an arbitrary .jar file, I'd like some sense of security before letting it run on my computer.

I can't believe no one is talking about Optifine preview supporting Forge. I played for a few hours with no problems using today's build of Forge and the latest Optifine preview. It looks great. I had one crash when switching between various shaders but so far it seems to work really well.
I haven't tested performance much yet. It is perfectly playable.

That's because the majority of people who post on this thread live under a rock, lol. The day sp614x added Forge support again, I posted about it here on the previous page, so those who do bother to read replies will see it. Many don't, and just blindly spam post rubbish without checking. It's the same for any popular modification/addon to Minecraft, on any medium.
Let's take SEUS for example, as that's almost as popular as OptiFine, if you take the page count as a gauge. The latest ignorant spam post on there, is someone demanding to know why there hasn't been any updates or new projects for over a year. It irritates me too much to bother replying to them, to tell them how excessively active the developer is on other mediums, such as Discord, Patreon, and Twitter, because they either won't see it, or they'll ignore it and demand that the developer reply to the thread.
Then, you have the fact that the forums have been abandoned by the vast majority of players after the Twitch account fiasco. The announcement of a shutdown didn't help matters either, and I doubt many people returned after it was rescinded. Currently, it feels to me like the majority of people left on these forums are randoms who make an account to ask one or two questions, and then never return.

My current PC:
• Ryzen 9 3900x @4.2GHz
• 64GB DDR4 @3200MHz
• MSI RTX 2080 Ti Gaming X Trio
• 2TB NVMe SSD
• 6TB in HDD space
• Four monitors at 4k
It's pretty cool! I'm also pleased Mojang is building in sharing the obfuscation maps. Another project for VR Headsets was using maps kindly generated by sp614x, and right now this means I can't use Fabric mods *AND* OptiFine *AND* the VR Headset mod. Hopefully with the mapping release, we can make more headway on, "Let's everyone place nicely together." It isn't a true API, but it's a true, single source of the needed data!

hello.
Why is the camera skewed ever so slightly to the right...? Oh, and how do I make it not do that?
It's happening! Forge support has been added to the latest OptiFine Preview today, 1.14.4_HD_U_F4_pre1.
Make sure to click on "preview versions" when on the download page, to access this version.

The selection box is often white when close to blocks and facing close to North.
It's fine East, West, South.
Sometimes, I can move the mouse a few pixels and it's fine.
Running 1.12.2 with preview_OptiFine_1.12.2_HD_U_F2_pre1 and SEUS Renewed.
Any suggestions?

Hi all. I just downloaded SEUS, and..... Well. What on Earth did I do?
(Mac OS 10.13.6, Minecraft 1.14.4, most recent versions of OptiFine and SEUS)
That's a Sphax texture pack, isn't it?
Any mods you might be using besides Optifine?
Otherwise I think that looks mighty cool. Not pretty or intended, but cool regardless.

Yep, PureBD. Do I need to use the vanilla resource pack? Or is there resource pack optimization in SEUS that I missed?
No other mods. I agree it looks pretty cool! Kind of vomit colored but the simplicity is A Look
