That's already pretty good performance for a laptop, I would say you have it tuned as well as possible already. Mobile GPU's are not very powerful (until nV 10 series). Post a screenshot with F3 details showing if you want more help.

Anyone else having issuea with no sound with1.12 optifine? Ive checked the computer volume as well as sound levels in mc itself everything is up but i get no sound od any kind
*edit * quick reboot of mc and all working fine again
I don't know why but when I try installing 1.12 Optifine, I can't seem to find the version of it? I've tried multiple times on installing it but it just doesn't work.
(What I mean is when I go to the MC launcher, I don't see 1.12 Optifine anywhere.)

It's because there isn't a 1.12 update yet. Probably it'll come out this week, so just be a little more patient, sir.

When you install a new version of Optifine, it overwrites your old profile. (You also need to have created a vanilla 1.12 profile beforehand). When you select the "Optifine" profile, in the bottom right of the launcher, does it show which version of optifine you're about to run? Or did you already check there and it just isn't updating for you. :S

I'm having some issues with "OptiFine_1.12_HD_U_C2.jar" on macOS.
If I just run it I get a TON of errors during install which fails.
If I run it with SUDO it will try to install to the wrong place "var/usr" instead of "Users/gerard/Library""
If I manually point it to the correct directory it will install without any problems but when I then try to launch it I get :
Error details: File hash should be b38db9af8cebcb7d23b578abe8fe55be3a56c895 but was da00b7b4fb2899d054df5392aedfaa475f3f2d87 Permission denied
Filename on disk: 1.12-OptiFine_HD_U_C2.json
Path: /Users/gerard/Library/Application Support/minecraft/versions/1.12-OptiFine_HD_U_C2/1.12-OptiFine_HD_U_C2.json
Exists: file
I then manually changed the permissions of the folder which let the launcher start the game. Thought I would share it here for those encountering the same problem.
Can anyone explain to me why the Optifine launcher won't start for me (running OS X Sierra 10.12.5 with java 8 update 131) and instead just unzips into my download folder?

Apple no longer includes the jar launcher. You can still launch them manually.
1. Open Terminal (found inside Utilities which is inside Applications)
2. navigate to your optifine location, in this case I would guess downloads so "cd Downloads"
3. type "sudo java -jar OptiFine_1.12_HD_U_C2.jar" if you have a different optifine change that
4. enter password
Might also have to navigate to the correct folder which is users/youruserfolder/Library/Application Support/minecraft
And last but not least, due to some weird bug with the installer in the latest version you need to reset permissions to the optifine installed version folder.

I would say you might need to increase the amount of RAM going to the the version you are running (under launcher options). However shaders do take a lot of resources to run them at full effect, if you do not mind turning off some of the animations you might be able to increase FPS that way as well. If those two ideas do not work, and if no one else offers better advice, you might need to increase the amount of RAM on your laptop.
please release the mod in a regular jar file instead of that stupid extractor

It fed me
"Error: Unable to access jarfile OptiFine_1.12_HD_U_C2.jar"
when I entered my password.
EDIT: I got it working by clearing my downloads folder and some extra space on my hard drive. Not sure why that helped, but it did.
Not sure if it would really be an Optifine thing, but would it be possible to get a way to change the render distance for only a single axis? So for instance, if you were in a plains biome, you could lower the render distance of the Y axis to get better performance.
It's already out. And preview versions were released earlier this week.

Apparently your error log is different from mine. My problem was due to RivaTuner Statistics Server causing the crash. Specifically [d3d9.dll+0xfd0c].
You could try to see if Java 9 would fix the problem for you.

The installer jar should work the same way as any other mod, I use the installer jar in forge all the time, and it works.
