I have managed to successfully install Liteloader and Forge, but putting Optifine in my mods/1.8 folder causes the launcher to fail to launch. Is there something obvious that I'm doing wrong?

Make sure you put a 1.8.0 version of optifine into the mods folder. You can't put optifine 1.8.1 B4 into the mods folder because forge and liteloader are both designed for 1.8.0.

This might be a bug, but the pastebin says you are using optifine B4, which is a 1.8.1 version.

I have the right one, the 1.8.1 one is indicated as 1.8.1 when it loads.

I'd like to report a major bug found in OptiFine 1.8.1_HD_U_B4. Apologies if this is not the correct place to do so. If this should be posted elsewhere, please let me know.

The problem occurs in a single player map opened for LAN play:

1. Start Minecraft with OptiFine 1.8.1_HD_U_B4.
2. start/create a single player world
3. Open the map to LAN
4. on another pc, join the LAN game (doesn't matter if Optifine is installed on the client)

Now, the bug: when the first player (host) moves far enough away from the second player (client), all the mobs around the second player will stop moving. The second player is essentially moving around in a frozen world.

When playing MC 1.8.1 WITHOUT Optifine, no such problem exists.

This problem did not exist in 1.7.x of Optifine.

Running mods with forge #1272 in multimc and I can't even see 22 blocks away because it totally doesn't render any blocks more than 10-20 away or so.. I have to constantly manually fly all over the place for it show anything but void....

Changing rendering distance or WHATever seeting in video options doesn't fix it...

Framerate is 60 constant but no wonder.. .I now know how optifine gets its speed boost.. Just not rendering half of what is normally rendered.

Even with renderdistance set to extreme (max) only a relatively small amount of blocks is shown around the player.

Shame that 1.71 version which most people play now gets no love anymore with optifine.

Other people play with Optifine 1.7 versions just fine so it must be a problem on your side
And he still updates the 1.7 version often.

It's confusing because it doesn't happen on other texture packs (example 1)(example 2) and it doesn't happen with Optifine turned off.
The textures run fine otherwise (except 3D models).

Optifine doesn't biome-color custom models at the moment (the same bug was in mcpatcher a few months back).

Actually, it's all one branch. The rotated and mirrored variants are listed explicitly with the alternate models. There is no "rotating" done to the variants. Grass, dirt, netherrack, and sand all have alternate models by default. This is why they appear in old texture packs.

If he is a native English speaker then you're correct and he needs to slow down a little and read what he posts before hitting [Post Reply]. If not YOU need to lighten up. There is no no way for either of us know which is correct so please give any incompletely worded post the benefit of the doubt and just shrug it off. I spent 3 years in Germany and many Germans that can, WILL NOT speak English, because of Americans that react as you just did.

Most probably the texture pack has not been updated.

I really, REALLY hope someone can help me with this issue that has prevented me from playing any 1.8 version:

I have an (almost) high end laptop, I can play the 1.8 update with decent FPS (40-100) and Optifine fixes about 95% of the lag giving me stable high FPS (150-250), BUT I noticed, since the last snapshots, that the mobs acted very strangely. For example, spiders take a few seconds to notice me and when they try to attack me they often just jump but don't deal me any damage; zombies also take some time to notice me as well as skeletons and whenever I damage them with anything, their IA "reset", stop tracking me and they just stand there like retards for up-to 4 seconds before trying to attack me again, which means the game is way too easy this way, even in hard difficulty, and it is really annoying to the point that I'm stuck in 1.7.10 wanting to play with the 1.8 features but without having my mobs to act like idiots.

Mojang really messed up the AI in 1.8x. I'm hoping they get this situated.

The B5 for 1.8 is compatible with latest forge for 1.8 and has some bugfixes.
It will be made official soon.

I used to have an average FPS of around 80 to 90 but unfortunately my average FPS has gone down to around 30 FPS after a year of having my computer. Luckily optifine was able to bring my fps back up quite a bit. Thanks!
