Ok, so I know I'm going to sound dumb of this most likely and probably. But I am trying to run this with my tekkit classic server. I'm using version 2.4.4 of this mod and running tekkit classic. I'm looking all over to get this to work with no luck. I don't know if you'd be willing to help out since I'm using an old version of the mod, but his is my error report:
[...]
I'd really like to use this mod for the server, but I need to figure this out so I can help everyone download it. Thanks!
First Sentence in the Openeing post should answer the question completely:
A client-side Mod so that Minecraft now natively supports Mumble's positional audio feature.
This means that the mod is not to be installed on servers as it it sufficient to install it on your client
I'm not installing it server side. When I said I wanted to use it on my server I meant I'm having other people download it to their clients for use on the server. The error report is from my client. Trust me, I can read.
You will need a Mumble Server (Murmur) for the players to connect to. You can either host this yourself, rent one or find a public server. No special configuration of the Mumble Server is required for this mod to work with it. Please see this post for more details on how and why it works this way.
So the players need:
this Mod installed, activated, and working
Mumble
change the settings as per mod-guide (see front page)
connect to the same Mumble Server like everyone else
I'm not installing it server side. When I said I wanted to use it on my server I meant I'm having other people download it to their clients for use on the server. The error report is from my client. Trust me, I can read.
I didn't see this post before...

Ask the author of that mod for help. What makes you think it was MumbleLink causing the problem?
I didn't get the error until I installed mumble link, and it's the tekkit classic modpack, which was running 100% fine until I tried Mumble Link, that's why I asked here. I'll look into compact solars. Also I already have a mumble server. Thanks.
Edit: Game still crashes. I removed compact solars from my tekkit classic pack to see if it really was causing the issue. It now says Ironchest is causing issues.

but I have little hope that it is the actual problem.
And to be honest even if I found a bug in the code I would not be able to recompile that class. The corresponding MCP would have to be dug up first.
Sorry to say this but I am not going to invest time in fixing a 3 year old build.
If there is a conflict with MumbleLink and another mod you can try finding the candidate by binary search:
Remove half of the currently active mods and check if it still errors. (keep MumbleLink though). Repeat this until you could narrow it down to a single mod or a combination of mods.
Once you found the actual conflicting mods the error message might give a better hint at what is actually the problem.
Please also post a download link to the mod pack so that this can be reproduced by someone else.
And what Robijnvogel said is correct. Please try with an up-to-date Java version.
Trust me, I didn't (and don't) expect you to fix a 3 year old version of your mod. It's a really odd thing to spend time doing since its so old. I came here in hopes for a quick fix, and if it was a bug or some other thing I know I'd be out of luck.
Anyways, updated java (holy crap I didn't know I was so behind) and still no luck. I'll try what you said with removing mods and so on.
I'll see what I can do on my own, and if I find a way to make it work I'll let you know. I still definitely plan to use this some other time, since the server I'll be running changes modpack about ever month, we'll get to use MumbleLink later. Thanks for helping, and thanks for making the mod as well!
Pvt_Pirate, what did you mean by having to use the out-dated version for testing?
The mod should work with the latest version too.
To every one: If this mod is not working anymore please notify me as I am not playing Minecraft anymore and therefore am not checking the state.
If it needs fixing you need to tell me! I am not checking myself!
Sorry, i should've been more precise:
i had to use 1.8 instead of the newer 1.8.8.
your mod works perfect.
i wish they'd update forge to a newer 1.8.x version, since 1.8.0 produces an unbearable amount of lag and low FPS, which renders the game almost unplayable.
or is this version of forge compatible with all 1.8.x versions?
- Mumble sais "Minecraft linked." but I still don't hear people positionally.
Multiple possibilities:
1. Mumble is not setup correctly:
Make sure "Link to Game and Transmit Position" is checked
(Configure -> Settings -> Tick "Advanced" -> "Plugins"
-> Tick "Link to Game and Transmit Position")
2. The others are not using this mod. Get them to install it!
In general what you gave is too little information to do a proper assessment.
Please provide your system specs, the test you did and the exact messages your received.
Logs and Screenshots would also help a big deal.
Java 1.6 is not supported before 4.1.2 of this mod.
From the changelog:
v4.1.2

- fixed bug: initializer thread tries continuously without a wait (inserted 1 second delay before retrying to find mumble)
- added missing LICENSE.txt to the jar
But anyhow you are 2 major Java versions behind and LTS ran out 3 years ago... you should really really consider updating.
Would be fun to have currently speaking players get some sort of icon by/over their head on the minimap. Probably not happning unfortunately. AFAICS mumblelink sends the position of the speaking player to mumble, which plays the sound on other connected computers adjusted for the position of those players (received from their mumbleLink) vs the position of the player speaking. There's no info sent to the other players' Minecraft instance about the identity of the player speaking, nor even his position (all the audio is done through mumble). tldr mumbleLink only sends out positional data which mumble usese to attenuate the sound coming from other mumble instances. Nothing communicated to other Minecraft instances I could read to know whose icon to highlight
Any news on the 1.8.9 version? Mumblelink is the only mod that's preventing us from updating our server, so I hope it'll be around soon:)
Sorry I have missed this post. I am also sorry to report that there has been no progress so far and I am not seeing myself having a lot of spare time to work on this. You can track possible progress on these projects: https://github.com/zsawyer/mumble-LinkAPI/pulse and https://github.com/zsawyer/MumbleLink/pulse but as you can see. It is not looking good.
The first things that needs to be done is get mumble-LinkAPI working again (currently I am having problems with the linux build) and setting up a proper gradle-project structure for MumbleLink.
Actually, since I became aware of this app a few days ago, I had the same question. Will someone make a plugin for Discord that would enable it to link with MumbleLink?
This mod is Mumble compatible, but Teamspeak needs a plugin to connect with it, so I guess the same would count for Discord?
You are completely right. This project's scope is to interface with Mumble's Link-Plugin only. If you want this mod to work with Discord then you will need to get the Discord-Devs to implement Positional Audio (https://feedback.discordapp.com/forums/326712-discord-dream-land/suggestions/10400655-positional-audio-support) in the first place and then they or someone else need to implement the link Interface described by the mumble project. Basically just like Teamspeak and the Crosstalk-Plugin.
Creating a Discord-Version of the Crosstalk-Plugin would be a new project unrelated to Minecraft.
Thanks for the reply! I completely understand that it's hard to find time for it, wish I could help but I'm hopeless with scripting:)
But this doesn't mean that the project is abandoned, right? Out of all mods for Minecraft, yours is THE must have mod. Keep up the awesome stuff!
No, it is not abandoned. It is just hard for me to invest time in it at the moment. Sorry.

@Leafy: Sorry, i misinterpreted a few things, as they just sounded as if you wanted to run the mod on the server:
"I am trying to run this with my tekkit classic server"
"I'd really like to use this mod for the server"
It's too bad, that i don't know how to interpret the logfile either.
I hope you get the help for this problem.
I have checked the old code (https://github.com/zsawyer/MumbleLink/blob/2.4.4/mod_MumbleLink/mcp/src/minecraft/net/minecraft/src/mod_MumbleLink.java) I cannot find anything that might give me a clue as to why other mods are having problems initializing, when MumbleLink is there.

Hey there! Are you planning to make this functional for Discord ? ^^'

No, it is not abandoned. It is just hard for me to invest time in it at the moment. Sorry.
