The "src" folder contains the source code. If you don't know what that is don't worry about it; you can safely ignore it. If you do know what it is, the source is public domain.

I haven't used this mod, but I'm pretty sure you just use a text editor, like Notepad or Vim or whatever.
Edit - Just ripped open one in notepad.

Wonderful mod. I'm having a blast creating template files that generate massive structures like crumbling skyscrapers and broken pavilions. Dramatically increasing the ruins.txt spawn and site rates provides a really interesting "forgotten civilization"-esque map.
More templates would be great...I'd love to see some good ones that others have created. I'll try to post some of mine as soon as I perfect them. What's nice is that, since they're just text files, no download is required -- you merely need to copy and paste the data directly into a post.

I am working on random site rotation and leveling, and compatibility with the Biome Terrain Mod. The big issue with metadata rotation, the only headache with site rotation, is the way Notch changes the directions with every block* (check out the data values on Minepedia to see what I mean.); I had to write some massive case statement to handle it. Either way, you'll see it in the next version, which will hopefully be out in a few days.

I renovated a house and a tower from the ruins around me, some sand and coal (I play with the old settings, not the newer, reduced ruin spawn rates).
* Any sane programmer would have defined constants for that short of thing...
Sounds like some neat stuff coming with random rotation of templates and whatnot. Keep up the good work -- there's a ton of potential in these templates.
Here's a simple one I whipped up in a few minutes...it's a guard house of sorts. I set the weight high just so people could find one more easily. It'd be simple to change the rules to punch more holes in the thing too, if you're going for a real ruins look. Think I'll make an ice castle that only spawns on snow and ice next...
Very cool mod. Tons of potential, cant wait to see where this goes. Forts, dungeons, towns nice stuff. More templates please. I am having fun creating new things.
I have a suggestion. Making this generate ruins less often but with a lot of building around it, giving a kind of "Lost City" feel to it. Or maybe a settings file that would make us able to do something like this?

I LOVE this mod! Being able to create custom dungeons is awesome.
However I am having a problem with torch placement. Specifically when a torch replaces any non air block like stone or dirt its direction gets messed up. In a structure above ground I can specify witch wall in a corner to adhere the torch, but under ground the torch has a random direction, even choosing to float in midair instead of attaching to the wall I told it to.
Is anybody else having problem?
If I cant put torches underground I'll have to completely redesign my dungeon.

Already does, but realize that it also depends on a level site and the source block being correct. Once I get site leveling to work, you could potentially cover the entire world with buildings.

Should be fixed in the next version, although I'll have to do some testing of "sunken" dungeons like you're using. I was using a certain method from the World class that appears to have not done things in the manner I wanted. I switched the methods recently.

One of my all time favorite mods was Kodaichi's Battle Towers. It was the first mod (that I found) that added on to the dungeons, giving you tall towers filled with mob spawners and chests full of goodies. However there where some things I didn't like about BT. Aesthetic problems like its A BIG UGLY TOWER, and some gameplay issues like a reversed difficulty curve. In BT the floors would be increasingly more holey the higher up you went, the idea being that combat would be more difficult higher in the tower. But the opposite was true, the mobs would fall through the floor making the bottom floor the most difficult.
So I give you Battle Basement! Just like Kodaichi's towers but sunk into the ground. (I made a few aesthetic changes, but I wont go into all of them, if you have played BT you'll probably notice.)
Just like the towers Battle Basement comes in three flavors.

Any chance you could post a 1.5 compatible version?
Since you have provided the source I could recompile myself but there is that pesky td.class I can't recreate. Awesome work, looking forward to trying it out. The possibilities really seem endless with this one.
