I'll try to think up some more ideas but in the mean time I have a question.. When it starts to become day it seems that the mother spider just leaves them or something. I'll look out and see the family out enjoying themselves and as soon as it starts to get lighter out, I'll look out and I'd only see a few little babies out there with no mother crying... Is this supposed to happen?
Anyways. Instead of string for the mother to drop why not make her drop spider eggs or spider-meat?
I've already used a mod to make the zombie drop rotten meat instead and just feel like some meat would be more rewarding then some plain ol' string.
Umm, have you even tried the latest update? The mothers DO drop eggs now that you can throw and use to attack animals and stuff. It's basically a pokeball-style clone concept except the monster you get to summon is pathetically weak, which makes it balanced.
Also, the reason that the mother despawns during the day time is because she is a monster, while the babies are animals. The reason for this is so that DrZhark's creatures will hunt the babies, angering the mother, which makes for some very interesting monster infighting. Babies are very sad that their mother despawns while they don't. Blame Notch.
You misunderstood. I was more of focusing on the spider meat part, sorry it was unclear. I was hoping you could make the mom drop spider meat instead of some plain string you could get from the children.
And for some reason the wolves, bears, and etc creatures don't spawn ingame.
I've asked why but I've gotten no answer to such.
Any help on why that is?
Turtles don't seem to spawn either.
If it has to do with the spawnlist thing could you help me out because I have not a clue what the hell to do with it.

I played with some spider eggs earlier and they're pretty neat. However, they need more range. I'm not asking arrow range, just a bit more... They get flung waayyy to short.
DAMMIT HOW DID THAT HAPPEN?! It didn't happen in testing... but I just installed the files I included and now the problem is very obvious. Sorry... patch coming up soon.
Good to hear!
Also, I almost forgot.
if you're looking over the edge and try to throw the egg down it'll sometimes instead hatch right in your face rather then where the egg lands (And the egg does not land anywhere near the cliff the spider spawn on.

Very good, but one problem. Whenever I find baby spiders, there's no mother, and there's always some string/broken eggs around. I downloaded it correctly, and I also got modloader, etc.

I don't really see much merit in spider meat, to be honest. Pigs are common during the day and a much more reliable source of nutrition than any monster drop. Zombie pigs also drop cooked meat, but I really don't agree with this at all. Seriously, they're fire proof and lava proof. HOW DID IT GET COOKED? But never mind, if you're that serious about it then would you settle for cookable spider eggs? ---- Please say no... because I do not want to encourage the player to cook an egg with a live creature inside of it...
And as for the Mo' Creatures thing, just use the spawnlist.class included in DrZhark's mod instead of the one I linked. There's a chance that DrZhark's is more recent, or just adapted to his version. The one I linked is only for people who don't already have the Mo' Creatures mod.
Okay before you ask this again, I have to say no. I'm trying to make all of my mods unique in some way, and this idea would be simply just reusing the concept of the brain slimes. Not everything in the universe needs to be stackable, and if you really want to do it, there's other mods for that.
Also if the baby spiders stacked up on top of the mother, they would die due to natural ceiling suffocation. This was meant to work as a defense mechanism for the brain slimes, not just some random fun feature. There's a difference between a legitimate fun gameplay addition and a fantasy.

Spider meat would be one of the only meat you could get at night and could possibly give more health then a pig's meat.
I'm not interested in cookable spider eggs just mother-spider meat.
Zombie pigs are shown to be burnt and dead like. in a place like hell, it wouldn't be a surprised their insides are cooked to perfection (or worse).
I'm just saying after a fight with a mother spider and all of her babies I'd like something that'd give me something nicer then some pathetic string I could have gotten from a normal spider/baby spider (Seriously I kill these little guys constantly in day time, I have more then enough string.)
however, this is your mod so you decide on what you want to do. Just please let us have some other extra drop other then just string.

No they shouldn't. they're fine the way they are.
No they doesn't need to be baby zombies and creepers.
This is a spider mod, not a baby mod
Perhaps you could make a few different varieties of baby spider, the current being the weakest, then one more that was a bit stronger, but still not very useful in combat, and then a third that was fairly strong and somewhat useful in combat? Also, somebody get on a pokecraft mod using balls similar to the way eggs are done in this, that would be awesome lol.

Yeah, I feel as if the babies you throw are wayyy two weak.
Maybe it'd be possible to strengthen the ones that come from the eggs? I know it doesn't make much sense but seriously unless they're fighting a peaceful animal they're not doing any good.
I'm not wanting a super strong OP spider baby. Just something a lil' stronger then what we have.
Don't like the varieties idea but such did spark the stronger babies idea.
Don't make the drops any different; they are still spiders! If this were a poison spider, sure, give it a poison drop; because that would make sense, not because OMG I NEED LOOTZ. This spider mod is fine right now as is, it adds diversity to the creatures of the world and it's fun; which I'm guessing is the purpose behind this mod, not to add some kind of awesome loot machine or a pocket bodyguard. Seriously, your reward for fighting a gang of leaping spiders in a cave is NOT DYING. Being a survival game, not dying is a pretty good thing. I like this mod for the creature interaction, not the payout. Poor little crying babies. ;_______;

Every time I come to these forums, I think more and more that there is no such thing as playing Minecraft normally.
is there a version without the egg item? I am not a fan of custom items in the game because when a mod gets removed by an update the game will crash until the mod is placed back in or I have to use an inventory editing program to remove said modded item from my inventory
I guess its not too much trouble for me to edit the item out though =\
This may be going a tad bit "Far"...But, would there be any way to..."Upgrade" your frolicky, summonable spider minions?
E.G: Types that stay hostile to any target (You included), but with different abilities and strengths, or varying "Pet" spiders who are just for show or to defend you...
Let's say that is a spider egg....
And that is Netherrack....
Would make a hostile, flaming spider. A bit bulkier, and with a red tint, this spider would have a 2.5 hp boost onto the normal 5.0, and would "Ignite" mobs when they hit them. Not blocks, just the mobs.
Would make a hostile, creeper-style spider. 4.0 hp, 1.0 less than normal, this spider would target anybody (You or a mob) and explode viciously. Although, the explosion radius is small, about 2x2x1... For the price, it'd have to have SOME worth, costing some coal, iron, flint and gunpowder. Wouldn't it be fun having some hostile creeper spiders? They would be a bit smaller than the normal model, and greener.
]" title="-<->" /> ( the is cowhide)
Pet spider! Won't be targeted by any mobs, and will have 10 hp (For falls). Will munch on nearby flowers, healing itself! Will follow you around. Quite fast, and springy to boot! (Can jump two blocks high! And two far!) Would be a light pink color, and about normal size.
Ninja spider. Very transulent, you can only -faintly- see it's red, glowing eyes. Can't be targeted by hostile mobs until it attacks. Not easy to make, due to gold being a bit uncommon, this spider has 12 hp, and can jump three blocks high. Tends to hide out on ledges. Will make passive animals a higher priority than hostile mobs or the player, except for when attacked. Will attempt to run away from combat when under 3 health. Slowly (.5 hearts per 3 seconds) regenerates in the dark. Will only attack if it has 6 or more health remaining.
Torch bearing spider! Fast, and acts like a pet spider. Requires the player to ATLEAST have a diamond pickaxe, explored for a bit, and make some easy items. The spider will plant torches around in dark (below level 14) light areas. But, it's supply is limited. Every torch you give it let's it place that torch somewhere! 8 hp, and won't be attacked by hostile mobs. Golden colored.
A very, very sneaky spider. It'll burrow into the ground (disappears), and will damage any mob/player that walks over it for half a heart a hit. Kinda like a walk-over-able, invisible cactus. Nasty! But, good for easy death traps. Will only burrow in grass, and if the block it resides in is destroyed, the spider dies. Requires the player to have found a dungeon! It looks like a normal spider when above ground, and if it can't burrow into any place, it'll die after 20-30 seconds.
(The is a Gold Block)
(The is an Iron Block)
A very, very scary spider. About the size of a Mother Spider, but much darker. Has 40 health, and deals a painful 3 hearts per hit damage. Immune to arrows, fire, and lava. Will spawn little, dark spiders (Much like the mother spiders normal babies) who will target any foe in the vicinity. They will additionally heal the Evil Mother Spider for half a heart per dead baby, but she can only spawn 10 a minute. If the whole brood is dead, she gains double damage, and wont spawn any more. Has a 1/20 chance to drop a broken Dark Spider Egg on death, allowing recapture...
Now, for...Enhancements!
Take an egg (Any egg! Enchanted or no!) and place it in the part of a where the smeltable-items go (Like or )
Then, in the fuel spot you can place a food! For an egg to absorb a food, it takes 60 seconds, and will "Enhance" the spider by a certain amount. ONLY 10 enhancements can be used per spider, and only 3 max in each catagory. So, you could have 3 Red mushrooms, three Yellow flowers, and three TNT for +6 HP, +3 Damage and a 30% move speed boost! Oh, and immunity to fire/lava!
will boost the spiders life by 2 per one fed!
allows the spider to (albeit, slowly) regenerate health at about half a heart per two seconds.
permeates the spider to move in water like it was dry land! (The are reeds)
will boost the spiders damage by one heart per hit! Cool, eh?
will make the spider move about 10% faster than normal.
give your spider a small boost to jumping height! One extra block higher!
Immune to fire or lava! If you give it three, it will heal in/or on fire lava! One heart per two seconds!
Your pet spider (Or torch spider!) will run to the nearest iron/gold/diamond ore! In a 32 block radius.
Arrows killing your pets from afar? Reduces damage by 1/4 per use, up to 3/4 less damage! (For arrows) And now, for the ULTIMATE spider...
Boosts life by 2, damage by 1 heart/hit, regeneration by .5 per two seconds, immunity to fire and lava, and takes 1/4 less damage from arrows per hit. Oh, and moves in water as if it was land. After dying, the spider can be retrieved, but each retrieval will take one Boost off. (You can re-feed it!) Also, it wont attack you.
And, yes, I DO understand that you probably wont ever do this, but meh. It was fun to type out! (Please comment on it, if you will or wont :tongue.gif:)
Thanks!
I think tamable baby spiders would be fun. I found a few hunters trying to kill one at my door step. I pushed the baby insid ethe house and slayed the hunters and now I wish the baby could be my little pat :biggrin.gif:
Anyway you could make it so if you stay with it for a wile(or give it something) it will follow you and stuff?
And for some reason the wolves, bears, and etc creatures don't spawn ingame.
I've asked why but I've gotten no answer to such.
