The idea of this mod originally came when searching the suggestions section of these forums several months ago. The idea was mentioned several times but the community was split in 2 on the idea. One side thought it was a great idea, and could be useful for Role-play multiplayer servers. The other side however felt that it was not a good idea as it would not have any uses in single player mode. Then, whilst playing with 5 other friends in a friend’s server I realised how much more fun a currency in-game could make it for us. For this reason I announced that I would make a currency mod, and now, after 4 days of coding, testing and compiling I created a working currency system. When we used it in game we had an extremely good time, and after a while a thought came to me. I believed it wasn’t fair for us 6 to have the opportunity to enjoy this mod, when so many others wished for what it gives and would miss out. For this reason I decided to release this mod to the Minecraft community, in hopes that they can also find enjoyment in this simple, yet limitless mod.
About the mod
This mod adds 6 new items into Minecraft. These items are stone coin, stone token, iron coin, iron token, gold coin and gold token. These coins can be collected and used for sales, or crafted into tokens, which can then be crafted to the next tier of coins (tier 1 is stone, tier 2 is iron, tier 3 is gold) or crafted into an ingot or diamond depending on the coin tier. This was decided to address both arguments, as this gives purpose in single player, coins being used to make hard-to-find minerals, and gives players the chance to further develop their gaming in multiplayer.
Below is a quick graph showing the crafting recipes of the new items:
If anyone requires, here is the item ID numbers, so you can spawn them in multiplayer or whatever else takes your fancy.
Alpha version's id numbers:
400 = Stone Coin
401 = Stone Token
402 = Iron Coin
403 = Iron Token
404 = Gold Coin
405 = Gold Token
Beta version's id numbers:
3000 = Stone Coin
3001 = Stone Token
3002 = Iron Coin
3003 = Iron Token
3004 = Gold Coin
3005 = Gold Token
As of this time it is unclear if this mod will co-exist with other mods made. Sadly in this area it is a “luck-of-the-draw” case.
Downloads
Those with the latest updates of minecraft should download the Beta versions. Alpha versions are out-dated, but due to a small number of people playing Alpha over Beta I felt that I should keep it downloadable for them.
server
Download if you wish to add this mod into your server so others may join and use the mod inside it. Instructions are found inside the file. For someone to join your server they must have the client version installed.
INVEdit filesThis was made by community member xXhodeb, who says that he enjoys the mod, and felt that this may help make it a little bit better for anyone else wanting to use it. He gave these instructions with the link, so that you can install it in an easy manner:
"These files modify INVEdit to allow you to select and add coins and tokens from this mod into your in-game inventory. To install this you need to extract and unzip these files into INVEdit. If you also have another mod extension for INVEdit u should copy & paste the codes. INVEdit can be found here: viewtopic.php?t=15921 ."
Thankyou for your contribution and for trying to help me make this mod better for everyone.
NOTE: The installation files have been tested by others and proven to work if followed directly. It is recommended that you make backup of the original files before editing, so you may retry if an error occurs.
A message to Notch and the development team
I would like you to know that I respect and fully support the original Minecraft game. If at any time you are unhappy with the existence of this mod you are welcome to contact me via reply to this thread or e-mail (assuming you can access this info through the forum user details) requesting this mod be destroyed and I will regretfully, yet happily, delete both this thread and the mod. It is my hope however that you will test this mod and either support or even create your own version of it, as I feel it gives players a wider selection of choices in game, and makes it much more exciting.
Thank-yous
Thankyou to these people, who helped me edit, test or in some way participated and contributed to the creation and continuation of this mod.
I hope that you enjoy this mod and what it will offer you. If you do, I would greatly appreciate some feedback on it via replies on this thread, as this is both my first Minecraft mod and my first java coding, and it is always good to have some feedback so you know where to improve.
Nice work sarge_azza on the coding, graphics, and the idea.
Personally I think currency in minecraft will open up a lot of options in multiplayer and that'd be cool. I've tested all three parts of your mod and it all works great. Thanks very much for this, I cant wait to play around with it in multiplayer.
Thanks for positive feedback so far, I'm happy that you are enjoying the mod =).
This morning when I woke up I had realised that in my foolishness I had forgotten to let you know the ID numbers of the coins (for /give commands, etc.) so here they are now.
400 = Stone Coin
401 = Stone Token
402 = Iron Coin
403 = Iron Token
404 = Gold Coin
405 = Gold Token
I will add this in the information above also, hopefully it will help anyone wondering.
Now its time for me to start my next small project, a tent block. If it works I will upload here so you can give it a whirl =).
Do you think it works whit Hmod ? The onwer of the server wants to knou if it works whit it.
I'm unsure, but happy to test for you. I will edit this post with a yes or no for you.
EDIT: As the Hmod edits the Item.java file I would daresay that it sadly wouldn't work with my mod. However, if your friend who owns the server has some java coding knowledge, please let him know that he is welcome to send a message to me over these forums, and I will be happy to give the source coding files so he may intergrate the two mods together.
Sorry for the hassles it would cause, but I'm afraid it is the only method I could think of at this time.
I installed it and followed the instructions to the letter. After clicking on a World to load it almost finishes, but stops at the very end. After around 10 seconds it displays the crash screen.
Thinking it was my mods I backed up my stuff and created a fresh minecraft folder. I installed the currency mod and this time after logging it all I get is a black screen.
thanks for the comments and queries, hopefully I will be able to help answer them =). for sanity's sake I'll go down the list with replies lol.
To UltraJake, I'm not too sure with the crashing when you start a game while you have all of your mods installed, I'm sorry I can't help there =S. However, I think that I can assist with the fresh files you say you got. Now, when you inserted the mod, there should have been a folder named "META-INF" inside the minecraft.jar file. Inside this folder should be a file named "MANIFEST". If you delete this file and then try running minecraft, that should make it run normally and activate the mod.
I am pretty sure I mentioned this in the instructions, but on the chance that I didn't I would like to apologise to you and anyone else for skipping such a vital step. I hope you can accept my apology =S.
To MinecraftDude, what I was trying to mean by the line "Download if you wish to use this mod in single player or in a server." is that if you want to join a server using this mod you have to have the "client" mod installed into your minecraft. The problem with this is it will also run in single player. The reason why people joining a server with the mod needs this is that when the item is made, held or used by anyone on the server, your computer will try to read the information on the item. However, if you don't have the item's coding in your Minecraft, then it won't be able to register it. This has resulted in crashing when testing the mod with friends.
So to put it simply, to play on a server with the mod running you need to download the client and install it into your Minecraft.
I hope that made sense, feel free to reply with a friendly "wtf are you on about" if not =).
To liveandletdie, indeedie, the exchange rate is 1 stone turns into 1 coin every time. However, if you are asking due to wanting to get a large sum quickly, perhaps to give to new players as they join (eg. I usually give new people to my server 30 stone coins, just to get them on their feet), you could use the /give command to collect it. The item ID numbers are above, so all you will need to do is type ingame, for example, "/give example 400 64" to give that player 64 stone coins.
I hope this helps you all, and I hope you continue to enjoy the mod xD
Holy crap batman, the other day while I was playing minecraft I was all like "la dee dah dah, I'm playing minecraft. That guys house is so awesome, if only I could buy it off him". Then I thought about having a server with a town with buyable property, and an economy. Which lead to thinking about businesses and such, like people who own and have built massive mob traps would sell gunpowder to people who get kicks off shooting pigs into the air. Which then lead to breakfast.
I'd really like this to be updated to work with the beta too, but as he stated in his opening post, it was made solely for use of his server, and not to be fixed to our preference. Hopefully either the server will be updated to the new version and this mod will be updated, or the poster will be kind enough to update the mod by their own will. This really looks like a great mod for servers and single-player alike, though.

Sorry for my lack of responding, I have been on isolation on a holidays with no internet connections =P.
However I have tried fiddling with the minecraft beta source files, and only 1 thing is certain; I am completely lost in how to remake the mod for beta due to the coding changing =S.
I have currently made a thread on the world of minecraft site to ask for anyone able to give me assistance, but if anyone is interested and wants to offer a helping hand, I would be more than happy to work with you, and even give you credit for helping to get this mod working again.
