Slightly off-topic, would it be at all possible to make a mod similar to xau's HD Patcher that only works for paintings?
Like, paintings can be 128p or even 256p, while keeping everything else 16p? Minecraft lags like crazy whenever I go 64p or higher, even if I just use a 16p pack scaled up.
I don't want to even think about that, not even with punch a pic. Quite interested to see if you can get it to work.
All those pictures are working in game right now, i just have to check if i need to correct any alignment issues with the newer sizes and decide the best way incorporate what i've done ie: use existing class files or new and/or modloader.

You can't just patch to exclude everything but paintings, it might be possible to duplicate a lot of that code to be used just for paintings though. I have no idea if that would be successful or what the impact on performance would be. On the plus side the image i posted can be used without the HD Patcher.
When I'm going over these pictures in photoshop should I try and stay within the brown borders? And how do I know if I altered the pictures correctly, last time I got a set of purple pictures instead of my new ones.
EDIT: and yes, the kz.png picture is in the art folder. I just have the feeling I did something wrong in photoshop.

The brown border is the picture frame its your choice whether you want that or not, just don't go past the outside edge of the frame or your into another picture.

Click File > Save Source or ctrl + s then edit the .java with a text editor.

Resolution of kz.png is 256x256 for Xtreme edition, 512x512 for Insane Edition, or higher if a HD Patcher is used.
@ Woot: Oh! Wow! And I'd just finished my 'Xtreme' edition version at the weekend for my texture pack! Then Tiger4Ruler showed me this and I like just fell over backwards (metaphorically!). Insane amount of work to fill it, but just amazing, mate! Thanks so much for doing this work. Paintings are my life blood for enriching the gadgets and gizmo's in Glimmer's Steampunk, so you have my genuine gratitude.
Is there any way you could be pressed to make more of the smallest block sized slots, 32x32 pixels in my case. As regards gadgety things and sections of chain, pipe, and things that connect in different directions, those small squares are pure gold. Up to three times as many as at present would be ideal.
In any event, this mod has got me just as excited as Notch's last update, and the fact that you have put the effort into updating it, fills me with hope that you will continue to do so after the next update. When folks see all the beautification going on in Minecraft, as a result of your support, there will be even more demand and that may knock at Notch's door eventually. We can but hope! Lots of these and a few of these for loose change
I still can't get this to work. I have my kz file all done, I manually installed the class files (using risugami's OSX terminal method) and put the picture in the art folder but I still have purple paintings. Is there anything that I could have done in photoshop to cause this? Made a picture too big or something? Or is it something that's conflicting with my other mods.
EDIT: I'm trying the original more paintings files, not the insanity, but the xtreme.

You can resize any pic you want, but just stretching it down might distort it horribly. Its much better to first crop and size the image to the same shape/resolution, then shrink it down to size. If you are using paint, the resize button will let you shrink it down to the proper size. Also, if you can run them without lagging too bad. higher res texture packs help ALOT. (shrinking images down to a 16x16 while keeping the image clear is a challenge)

Is there an issue with punch-a-picture when used with the server? Everytime I try it changes to a different image but then it comes off the surface.

More than one art file would require having new items, which some people don't like because of issues next update. If your using the HD patcher you don't need 4 separate files though just up the resolution of kz.png to the appropriate size.
Is anybody on MAC having trouble getting this mod to work? I put my kz file in the art folder along with the appropriate files, but whenever I'm in the game all I see are the original art files plus a bunch of blank purple ones. Woot confirmed that I was doing everything right and it should be working but we have no idea why it's not working.

Ok, if you are using a texture pack as a zip file. You neeeeed to make sure you replace the art file within desired texture pack. Along with any other mod textures you need. Thank you woot for trying to trouble shoot it with me. Hopefully someone will see this and it will help them.

AMEN! Honestly not being able to cycle through the pictures really killed my enjoyment of this mod, mostly because the damn paintings don't always pop off the wall (meaning in my direction). Being as I don't have much glowstone and placing torches on the walls looks tacky, I put the painting on glass with torches behind. For whatever reason the paintings can go through the glass. Combine that with the random selecting of the painting and I just about went insane when using this mod.
Loved the idea, but was woefully in need of a punch-a-picture type addition, especially with the new insane edition.
Which brings me to the purpose of this post. Does the different file dimension cause problems if the mod is removed or do paintings work like items, kind of a coordinate style system? I'd like to know so that when I spend the next 4 hours looking for and inserting images into the file it doesn't die every update, although I guess I could just copy my old file instead of changing it...
Also I really liked the idea of pointing to a different painting file, that way I wouldn't have as much trouble when using texture packs.

No you can't mix/match files from the other version, i'll whip up a server version of the Insane Edition today.
