I would like to update the minimap, I'm new to modding so I more then likely won't release until its perfect, but I don't know what would make it incompatible. I would love you're input and help. (as in you and the community)
As far as I can tell the current World Edit CUI that the OP links to (the _303 one) doesn't work. The best result I was able to get was "no effect", although I also had the same situation as yourself where my World Edit commands stopped working completely.
I do wish Lahwran had "retired" after the 1.0.0 update of this mod, but equally I am certain he had his reasons. Like many I am now avidly awaiting someone else take up the banner on this one as without this particular mod doing WE work on the server I am active on (WE, Protection and Anti-Grief) is much more laborious.

It's already been discussed. Rei's Minimap is a thousand times better and does everything that Zan's Minimap does. You will not even know the difference if you tried Rei's.

Can someone show me how to properly install the minecraft 1.0 version of the WECUI? There's no instructions either.
Edit: Okay, I managed to install it without having minecraft crash but I have a problem. Now, none of my worldedit related commands even work, as I get an "invalid command" or something.

To all those having problems with _303's update for WECUI... both _303's update and the update of SinglePlayerCommands edit the class: SPCPlugin.class
If you delete the SPCPlugin.class file that comes with _303's version of WECUI and then install normally it should work fine. It does for me any way. Specifially this solves the issue of all worldedit commands claiming to be invalid.
If you do not have SinglePlayerCommands or do not play SSP then this will not effect you and the SPCPlugin.class should be left alone.
EDIT: as for rei's minimap not working... I'm not having any of the problems describe above. And rei did fix one issue with cave mapping (that I wasn't personally experiencing) in the latest version. As to which is better... its a moot point. Zan's is dead... if you don't like rei's make your own... just stop the bloody whining already.

For you guys having trouble with the WorldEdit CUI install, try installing it before SPC, that's what worked for me sicnw whatever conflicting class (I believe its the SPCPlugin class) is overwritten with the SPC one.
WorldEditCUI is listed here as working with Minecraft 1.0.
WorldEditCUI works in conjunction with the WorldEdit plugin. WorldEdit 4.7 is the current version.
The WorldEdit 4.7 plugin is listed as being for CraftBukkit 1337.
CraftBukkit 1337 is for Minecraft Beta 1.8.1
1) How can WorldEditCUI work with Minecraft 1.0?
2) I have CraftBukkit 1493. It is not a formal release but it works with and includes Minecraft 1.0.1, and it is already far more stable than the vanilla Minecraft. Is it an appropriate version for WorldEdit?
3) If I need to get a newer version of the WorldEdit plugin than 4.7, what version is it and where do I get it from?

Thanks jadedragon, removing the SPCPlugin.class (or installing the mods in the correct order) works from the perspective of the worldedit commands (i.e. they work). Alas... WECUI doesn't seem to do anything for me (i.e. I cannot see the wireframes when I make selections with the wand).
Has anyone actually managed to get the WECUI from "http://dl.dropbox.co...I-1.0-mc1.0.zip" to work correctly (i.e. you see the wireframe when you make a selection)?

I did notice that comment... but assumed it referred to something else, since the visible wireframe of a selection was the only reason I used WECUI (I didn't actually know it did anything else). Seems like I will have to wait fomr yetanotherx to update it then.
Out of curiosity... other than the visible indication of the selection, what does WECUI actually do?

That's what I thought... but my install of the _303 one (as linked in my point above) is currently not highlighting any selection (whether one block or many), that's what I meant by not seeing a wireframe. To make sure I understand:
(1) The "... no polygon..." text means that there is no highlighting of blocks.
(2) All (I don't mean this dismissively, I realise it is fairly complex code) the mod does is highlight blocks.
So... _303's version doesn't actually do anything? Or am I being particularly slow today...

The "no polygon support" means that it will not show the selection area when WorldEdit is in polygon selection mode ( //sel poly ). However it will still show the selection when in cuboid selection mode ( //sel cuboid ), which is the default selection mode in WorldEdit anyway
