You didn't see all the posts complaining about the speed being too fast? I'm glad he slowed it down. The "halfspeed" Mark IV is still too fast for my needs, most of the time. And that was 0.9x the speed of the minecart (IIRC, that's what was said earlier in the thread). The Mark V is 1.1x. If 0.9 is considered too fast by some, 1.8x is significantly too fast. As I said, I'm glad he slowed it down. However, as someone else in the thread mentioned, he could have two versions. One that's the happy medium (probably the 1.1x as it is now), and a "souped up" version that's 1.8x or something thoroughly ridiculous. If this was 1.8x, I'd never use it. I have a hard enough time with it as it is. It'd be completely uncontrollable for me if it were any faster. And, based on the posts here, I'm definitely not in the minority. Mouser X over and out.

Really the point of hover boat seems to be fast. (when you see hover cars there not going like turtles) I feel like its meant to be fast and how the original is meant to be.

Regarding hover cars, excluding F-Zero (futuristic video game, in case people didn't know), the ones I'm familiar with travel essentially the same as their regular car counter-part. The specific example I'm thinking of is Back to the Future II. In that, the hover cars we see are basically the same as a regular car, except in the air. Thus, to correlate it with hover boats, it makes sense that the hover boat would mirror the original boat, except in the air. I'm not complaining (well, I am *now*, but that's only because the issue came up) about the fact that the Mark V is 1.1x speed of the original, especially considering that, being in the air, there's going to be less frictional resistance than there would be in the water. However, 1.8x speed of the original is by far too much, and as I already said, would make this unusable for me. If people are going to complain about it so much, I would have to agree with what was said earlier. Release two versions. A usable version (which is the Mark V at 1.1x), and a "souped up" version (since speed is apparently the complaint, why not make it 10x, or something else sufficiently ridiculous?). That should make both parties happy. Mouser X over and out.
Gotta say: Please add the height limit back; if you go above it far enough, you can bring down a server (just did this by accident). :/
How high did you go? I just tested on a friends server, went straight up, to the point where it took me 4 minutes and 17 seconds just to get down again (boat mode on the way down, same speed as if you are outside since up past the chunk limit you can't hit anything or get out). No crashes.
What about a secret mode that lets you maintain an altitude? You could press a key to fall anytime but you have to be at a fast speed to be able to push the key to ascend.
Regardless of the name one chooses to use, when I saw this mod, immediately I thought of airships. For example, things like,

As fun as it might be, I just can't see the hoverboat as something like this
and especially not something like this
This is largely due to the context of the game. Everything in the game is very low-tech. And the world at large is much closer to a fantasy realm, than it is a sci-fi/high tech world. Perhaps this is why some people complain about the speed. I, for one, don't like it going so fast because it simply becomes unmanageable. But, considering the context of the game anyway, something going that fast really feels very out of place, control issues aside.
Last, I will admit that when I first saw this, was tempted to attempt re-skinning the boat texture to imitate the hoverboard (pictured above), as I love Back to the Future. As fun as that would be though, it'd still be very out of place in Minecraft. At least, as far as I've ever played the game.
I only mention this, because I get the impression that the people using this mod have very radically different ideas from each other, of what the hoverboat is. I'm not saying my idea/interpretation is correct, I'm just saying what the hoverboat is to me. Apparently, that's different for everyone. Mouser X over and out.
Not sure if it's just me, but I can't seem to get it to work after the Halloween Update. All I get is a black screen after I log in. Worked just fine before the update, and I did remember to delete Meta-INF.
Versions 1-5 won't work now, they were all made using the files from before the update, and becuase of the way the updates are handled, all previous mods become incompatible until they are redone using the files from after the update.
So even if you follow the procedure exactly, none of the current mods will work, yeesh people, actually READ around the forums for once.

Yup, and THAT'S because EVERY SINGLE CLASS is now different in some way. Any mods that worked in v.1.1.2(_01) are now obsolete in v.1.2.0_01.
bla bla bla, i'm going to obfuscate your helpful post with a bunch of pictures without knowing anything that goes into re-skinning a boat, also those limitations wouldn't apply to someone like me because i know how to google "airship" and it must be as easy at that, right?
yeah, reskinning something isn't really that difficult, until you learn that whatever texture you use gets wrapped around the boat shape, so really, all you can do is make some parts transparent and others different colors. I'm afraid that this doesn't extend to creating giant-ass balloons off the top of the boat, or steampunk rockets off the back. Also, i'm sorry that ELEVn and I worked on that texture to upload it for you, Especially after ELEVn took all the time to make the skins in different colors.
But I must excuse myself, I eagerly await the post that you make that will overshadow the meager hover-board that we skinned for ourselves and thought we would share with others.
Edit: also I would like to reiterate what ELEVn said, Thanks for making this great mod sharose, we had a lot of fun making these skins and really dig your work.
THIS lol..
..if you decide to make the boat drop nukes, the item number is 91 if that helps

*EDIT* Nevermind, noob q, didn't look at the front page, tl;dr

I dig straight down.
Just you, no boat, and it appears you're running... MID-AIR.
Just like if you used the normal boat; no boat.
anyone want the texture replacements we used? here ya go.
just rename the one you want to boat.png and drop it in your minecraft.jar:
was a ton of fun and wouldn't have been possible without you, sharose.
thanks for being, and keep on keepin' on.

Don't ask why... because I don't know at all...
Ah... does that make it easier or MUCH harder?
