(Update! I fixed the map of it's glitchiness and have added a cheat sheet. The redstone has been fixed by golem2003. It looks all nice and neat now. Hope you enjoy!)
This is my first "Find the Button" map. I'm worried I have either made it too hard or too tedious and am looking for testers to give feed back. I currently have the first stage completed with a total of 8 levels. Each level having a collectible item and a hint to find. The levels are a bit bigger then normal levels you see on Youtube videos. This is a book themed map and for this go around I decided to choose the Bible for its interesting and big build themes. I'm looking for feed back on playability, design, entertainment, and over all rage quit status. Most valuable testers will be credited in the map with their custom head. I did not add the actual story to this map, I'm also looking to see if I need to do that for the story line to make sense or if I can be told by the scenery.
This map includes: Mountains, gardens, rustic houses, small cities (some of which are on fire), boats, and space (which maybe a stretch as I don't think I did that one very well lol)
I downloaded the map and played it, unfortunately I didn't complete it (stuck on level 4 lol). From what I've seen, the map is pretty good, the levels are as well. I also gave myself Creative mode to take a look at the redstone. There are though some technical non-critical issues:
1. When I just loaded in my inventory was full of items, including various custom heads, two custom banners, one block of gravel and a command block. Not sure if this is even an issue, but weird.
2. You can take armor off DorianShadowbane's armor stand. Again, not a critical issue, but it would be better to disable interaction with the armor stand. It can be done by running this /summon command for armor stand (it will spawn with exactly the same items, but you won't be able to interact with it):
(DisabledSlots:2039552 can be used for any armor stand and is what disables the interaction)
3. You redstone is... weird. It's functional, but weird.
A. For some reason you put a redstone torch to take input from buttons or levers, instead of a usual redstone wire. This results in a NOT gate thus leading to mechanism activating only when the button is released, not when pushed. This may be intended, and maybe I just don't understand something, but still, it will be better to replace these torches with just redstone wires.
B. You use NOT gates instead of redstone repeaters. This was a thing back in the early days when repeaters weren't introduced but now this is useless. The standart delay is the same (1 redstone tick, or 0.1 second), and the output signal in both cases has a signal strenght of 15. This means that the redstone can transmit signal for 15 blocks and then you have to use another repeater to extend it, which means you put them too close to one another, thus delaying the time from when the button is pushed to when the main mechanism part activates.
Overall, you are definitely good at building map levels, but pretty unexperienced with redstone. This is totally fine (especially considering that your mechanisms work), but I recommend to watch a few basic redstone guides on YouTube. This will help you improve your current builds and probably even learn something new.
Good luck in future mapmaking!
Thank you very much. I think the inventory is coming from what I was working with at the time as I didn't clear it because I'm still working on the map.
The Redstone is.. complicated. When I used the repeaters the mechanisms didn't work so I had to use the older system to get the effect. I don't know why it just ended up that way. And I didn't use the tradition 15 length of Redstone in case I had to move an arrange things later. I can't complain because it works and have no desire to go through all that again lol. As for the torches on the switches, the videos I watched had it done that way. And as it stands, I just want it to work, not picky on how. I'm not sure what a Redstone wire is, so if you could point me to that. I maybe using old tutorials on this but is there an issue doing it this way or is it just slower then people would like?
As for level... I'm trying to remember which one that was lol. I tried to make it difficult but is it too difficult? Perhaps I should include a cheat sheet Or when it's too hard?
I'm glad you like the map designs. I started playing minecraft a couple months ago and am not experienced at building. I'm glad that they are up to snuff lol.
You've been so helpful! Any more detail about the Redstone, maybe some links, would be great.
I tried after reading this to replace the NOT gates with repeaters in a few mechanisms and it worked. Not sure why in your case it didn't work, maybe because of the redstone torch that takes the button/lever input. A redstone wire is just a redstone dust placed on any surface. "Redstone dust" usually means an item in your inventory, and "redstone wire" is the same item, but placed on a surface. In fact, there is a lot termins in redstone that are sometimes easy to mistake with, I mess it up sometimes too (I'm not a redstone expert, but even redstone experts are not protected from this).
There isn't really an immediate need to redesign all redstone parts, because it works, and that's what matters. However, I was able to locate a malfunctioning part of the mechanism in Level 4 (The Tower). As seen on the screenshot attached, this wire going to the command block will not be powered, because of how redstone can be blocked by non-transparent blocks. A way to fix this is demonstrated on the second screenshot (and it also improves the mechanism, since the repeater on the right is no longer needed, thus the delay is less than before). I didn't find any other malfunctioning parts like this on the map, though there might be some.
The Level 4 is not really that hard, it's just because I often ragequit when failing multiple times on the same place. Now I was able to beat it with only one fail. As for the Cheat Sheet idea, you can give the player a choice to take it or not at the very start and then never offer it again. But even if they take it, they may not use it throughout the entire map. Even better would be if there was some kind of a bonus at the end for players who declined the cheat sheet offer at the beginning.
For the redstone basic guides, I usually watched Russian guides (and omg they are bad, I didn't realize it back then, but now I do, most of these never even include the names of the circuits), but there was one in English (and it helped me a lot), Though most of the circuits shown there are no use for adventure maps.
Also one really minor thing, some rules are just not needed because the other rules already do what is needed. "No breaking blocks" - not needed because the player is in /gamemode 2 by default (and there is a rule for that), which doesn't allow to break blocks. "Play in Peaceful" as well, because the world is locked to Peaceful (and as far as I know the difficulty cannot be unlocked without additional programs).
I totally thought I fixed that! It must have reverted when my computer restarted. I will have to fix it when I get my computer back.
I must of placed a Redstone repeater backwards. I feel like such a derp. Can you send me your fixed version of the map?
I wasn' sure if the peaceful remained locked. I'e never shared a map before. And I lo'e the idea about the not using cheats prize but not sure how to do it.
I'm still learning an all and I did test everything to see if it worked but I guess my computer messed it up. Thanks for all your help. Can you tell me your user name so I can credit you?
Okay, I fixed the the issue at the tower. I added a cheat sheet at the beginngin (so you can try all the levels now lol), I fixed the armor stand, edited the rules, and cleaned up the inventory. I did not fix the red stone because that would be exhausting but I will if it's delay is irritating. I think you will like this new version better (especially since you can actually play it lol). Let me know how it is.
I fixed all of the redstone mechanisms in this map so they have a normal design now. I also modified some command blocks and added the circuit which detects if the cheat sheet book has been taken or not. It doesn't do anything except for detecting it, but it can easily be linked to some mechanism.
It looks awesome! Thank you so much. Now I have a template to work off of. Not sure what to do about the cheat sheet. I could link it to a prize box and make an alternate ending area maybe. But I can look at your mechanism and tell how it works so I can decide later. You've been so helpful! Thank you.

The entire map is done in vanilla.
