Hello, My name is Brojman and I have been the owner/designer/builder/ect. of Pixelmon Obsidian Online. For the past four years I have been working on a large rpg/adventure map for the Pixelmon and CNPC mods. I started hosting and making servers for Pixelmon in february 2012 because there were no good rpg server/maps out at the time, as Pixelmon was only about 2 months old. My goal as a server owner is to make classic RPG experiences with original worlds and stories. Using my 16 years experience as a DM(Dungeon Master in D&D), I crafted a High Fantasy story that would work with Pixelmon.
Why Pixelmon?
Pixelmon offered a true rpg battle system. With 400+ Pokemon and hundreds of abilities it was a no brainer. Although I admittedly know little about pokemon, I was able to fit them into a High Fantasy setting without breaking(much) existing pokemon lore by using multiple dimensions. This took a little research on my part but I think it works(I hope :P).
Why has it taken so long and why I need help:
This project, when I first started it, was supposed to take only a few months to make. I finished the Landscape in about 2 weeks. One problem, I had never run a server of any kind before. I had no idea how or where to begin. So that was one hurdle, Figure out how to make the server and set it up. This was the easy part. Within a week of finishing the map I had made the server and set up most of it. With only setting up my website and no advertising the server blew up. People just started loading in. So i "hired" a few people to help. Next problem was getting Forge mods and Bukkit plugins to play nice so i could really tailor the server to a certain feel. This took more time but I got it working after a few weeks. Meanwhile, My staff were building towns, gyms, roads, and such. Things were going ok, A lot of time went into planning Quest Lines, Backstory, Pacing, Routes, where towns would be placed, and the boundaries of regions. Oh regions! The map would have 318 poly-regions and over 28,960 region points when I finished them(only about 8 months ago!). About 4 months into development, when it became time to start real work on the regions and behind the scene stuff, most of my help quit. The map was just too big and there were too many mundane things that needed done, and people got bored.
This is the main reason why it has taken so long, along with the whole bukkit ordeal. I have been trying to put way too much detail in the mundane things. This ends up making people bored and the stop helping and I have to do it all myself. This is hard for me because while working alone, its hard to stay motivated.
When I first started, It was great. People played on the server and I got feedback and could interact with people and that is what kept me working on and paying out of pocket for the server. But as I had to take on the workload of the whole server(Making art, the website, Youtube Videos, PR, Setting up economics from scratch, Figuring out level pacing for gyms and dungeons, Designing towns, gyms, and dungeons, Ect.), less apparent progress was made. People began to get bored of the server due to lack of new content, even though I was working on the server like a full time job. This discouraged me and i began to work less on the server so even less apparent changes....sigh....you see how this is going.
I am glad to say that I have finished most of the boring work! All i need help with is some of the creative aspects of the map.
What I need help with:
-Server Admin: I am looking for a proactive overseer so to speak. Someone who is willing to learn everything about the server/world and help me finish the tail end of this map. Must be willing to learn about the lore and be able to manage people to make sure any staff that is working on the server is keeping things within the setting(Although the setting itself is very broad.)
-Pokemon Trainer Designer: Have a lot of knowledge of Pokemon. Will be placing NPC trainers around the map and in dungeons. Each trainer will need a set of pokemon, each Pokemon will need move sets, each trainer will need start/win/loose dialogs, and a balanced item reward.
-Dungeon Designers: I need a lot of dungeons built. Would help to also have a fair bit of knowledge of Pokemon as those are the main adversaries. Dungeons come in two kinds: Pixelmon Battle, and Player Battle. In Pixelmon Battle dungeons, a player's Pixelmon does all the fighting. In Player Battle dungeons the player fights special Pixelmon NPCs that will attack the player him(or her)self.
-General Builders: Mostly for making new "Adventure Sites" and decorating towns and such.
-SideQuest writers: This one is a bit harder. Must be willing to learn the lore and finish most quests on the server to become familiar with story/quest structure before work can begin. This one can take some time but is really needed.
-Plot Town Manager: Has to scout out new areas for player plot towns and construct roads, make regions, and set price for plots.
-Weaponsmith: Create balanced and unique weapons and armor for use as quest/dungeon rewards.
Server Stats:
-5km X 5km Custom Adventure Map made with WorldPainter and featuring trees from the Tree Repository, 800+ handmade objects, 10+ towns!
-Custom NPCs! Around 150 of them!(and counting)
-Loads of quests! Around 75 of them!(and counting)
-318 Regions with 28,963 total points, Each with unique names and effects. Know the name of the forest you're in or whether you are in a quest area!
Completion:
-Total: 75%
-World Map: 98%
-Towns: 90%
-Main Quest: 70%
-Side Quests:50%
-General Npcs: 60%
-Shops & economy:99%
-Dungeons: 40%
-Gyms:85%
-Player plot towns:45%
Story so far:
After the events of Chapter one, you leave Satchel Island through the archway under the Obsidian Monument. After spending an undetermined amount of time in a void, you suddenly feel the warmth of sunlight and a rush of wind. You see a green field rushing toward you before all goes black again.
Waking in a strange bed, you learn that you are in Pinnela, a town in the Opalia Region. You also learn that you are not the only one who has appeared out of thin air. It appears that some of your friends from Satchel have made it through as well. Before you have a chance to ask more questions you are rushed off to meet the Professor. Apparently the man in charge of Pinnela and hopefully someone who can give you some answers.
The End
I feel that with a few people helping me I can finally finish this project.
