Long ago, in the depths of an expansive jungle, a civilization flourished with the bringing of the previous emperor's son, Icstachuit. He held power over the peoples for 300 days, and 300 nights. On the dawn of the 301st day of his reign, he was pronounced dead at the base of the temple steps. Mass panic ensued, no rightful heirs of power remained. On the 301st night, Ulgrathun took the corpse of Icstachuit to a deep cave, and tossed him into the lake as he prayed to the gods. The water was set ablaze, and a dark power surged from the boiling water into the veins of Ulgrathun. A voice told him to forge a tablet as if written by Icstachuit, and he did so. The tablet simply read, "My dearest friend Ulgrathun shall take throne if no heir is present," and it contained Icstachuit's forged signature on the bottom. On what would have been the 302nd morning of Icstachuit's reign, Ulgrathun took the tablet to the overlook, whom watched over the peoples for the chieftain, and it was then declared Ulgrathun become their new holder of power. That night, he returned to the blazing lake and watched as the water began to churn. A voice crackled through the cavern, "Ulgrathun, you will rise." He stepped back from the lake as the dark power emerged once again, and he began a soft chant. Fire spit from his mouth as he spoke, and soon a purple sphere was brought from the depths of the lake, and held above the fire. It expanded, and began to rotate rapidly with a dark center. Within seconds, the ground shook and all light faded. Ulgrathun returned to the surface to see the sky red and full of smoldering magma. White beings flew above, and balls of ember were appearing everywhere. Once again, a purple portal opened, except this time far above Ulgrathun and his civilization. The land seemed to grow closer to it, rather than it closer to they, and light faded a second time. The following morning the sky was as usual, but Ulgrathun awoke to his arms infused with a glowing red color, and his skin seemed to look charred. Flames stood where he stepped, and his voice thundered when he spoke. He took himself atop the temple and looked down at the faces smeared with an expression of horror and said, "I, Ulgrathun, will rule for an eternity over this valley. I have taken it far into the sky, protected from all but I. You will bend to my every whim, or feel the wrath of my Nether-infused bellows." Fire and embers were tossed throughout the crowd as he spoke, alighting some in flames. Ulgrathun stepped down from the temple, and remained for an eternity of days in the cavern with the lake; an eternity of nights were spent torturing the innocent peoples above.
• For those of you who don't want to read the entire story, here is a summary: Icstachuit came to power over a civilization after his father died, and after reigning for 300 days and nights Ulgrathun killed him by throwing him down the temple steps. Ulgrathun then went to an underground lake with his corpse, and threw it into the lake as part of an ancient summoning ritual. The lake became fire, a voice then told Ulgrathun to forge a tablet as if it was by Icstachuit telling everyone Ulgrathun would become their new leader. He did it, he became their leader, and he went back to the cave to thank the gods. Instead, he had been talking to a demon that soon dragged Ulgrathun and his civilization to the Nether, then sent them flying upwards in the Nether through another portal towards the ceiling that placed the valley in the sky. While in the Nether, the demon infused itself with Ulgrathun and it became a harsh ruler over the peoples for an eternity.
About the Map
████████████████████████████
The Valley of Ulgrathun is a complete the monument adventure map - explore as you wish, there is no linear path. There are dungeons, things to fight, places to see, and so on. The map itself is very, very large, with a render distance of 22+ being required to see the large majority of it at once. Mountains surround the valley contained within, which is a large jungle full of trees, vines, and ruins. Gear is spread throughout, as well as food, to keep you alive and well. It is set in adventure mode, meaning no blocks can be broken or placed. This is to keep from ruining the feel of the map, tunneling, and so on. Difficulty is recommended at Normal or Hard, and of course settings are recommended to be at max (aside from the render distance, wouldn't want your computer exploding due to 10 million blocks being rendered at once) settings.
Note: To go along with the feel of the story, the map is also seen as being "broken up" with floating pieces of land, land bridges, cliffs, impossible structures from earth, and so on. All of that is intentional!
