Welcome to Portalus IV. Do not enjoy your stay here...
So I recently thought upon and idea - why not a space exploration style (like starbound) RPG custom map? Hence, Through the Portal - A new beginning was born. This is going to be a map where you (and an optional friend) throw yourself into an epic adventure after crash landing on another planet. What you don't know is what lies beneath this new planet.
It has been a year into the intergalactic war between the Rebel Empire and the United Galaxies. A young soldier (you) and his comrade (optional 2nd player) are part of the fight against the United Galaxies. Into the battle, an enemy ship hits our shield generator and cripples our hull. On comes the backup ship AI which is P.A.L 2000 (Personal Assistant Lattice). It tells you that there is no hope. All is lost. Suddenly a portal appears in front of you. With no other option, P.A.L 2000 instructs you to go in.
After you go in, you land on a strange planet (actually just a normal minecraft world), Your ship heavily damaged. P.A.L reboots and informs that although there is oxygen in the atmosphere, 95% of it is chlorine and thus will poison you down to 1/2 a heart. From there he guides you in the form of quests, death messages and more.
Core Mechanics
An oxygen system
A hydration system
Possibly a temperature system?
It is multiplayer. I have already made a system that works with this. Unfortunately only 1-2 players
A custom in-world resource pack for SOME items
A basic scoring system/buying system (below)
Scoring/Buying
I will have a "trading coin" that is gained every __ mob kills. I guess I will make a system like a "3D Printer" using P.A.L 2000. More coins, better items. However, I will make it so it is progressive items - you can't get a diamond sword before you have an iron one. A twist is, at the end, the number of coins you have will be your score.
At the moment
The prologue is all finished, I have built the crash landed ship at its desired location. All subsystems (Oxygen,Hydration etc…) are done, now to get on with the quests.
You may think this is ambitious but I think, that with the help of my NASA PC and my bro as a test subject, it can be done.
So any suggestions or tips will be appreciated, this is quite a big project I know but it is possible.

Interesting idea. Definitely one of the better futuristic ones I've seen!
If you need any help with cut-scenes and maybe even the temperature system you suggested, just send me a private message. The temperature system can just operate from either the armor or hunger meters, maybe even the water meter.
The scoring/buying system should be extremely simple, just a bunch of dummy scoreboard objectives and whatnot.
As I said, if you need help, just send me a private message. I'd like to see something like this played by streamers and youtubers some day.

Thanks I'm thinking the temperature system could utilise the XP bar (middle being good) because it would not be too-too hard. scoring/buying wasn't going to be hard anyway xP. Cutscenes might need more work but I'm sure it can be done.
I completely forgot that that stupid experience bar existed... I never even use it!
The experience bar is an excellent idea for the Temperature.
Cutscenes should be easy due to Logstoneable creating: .
All I have to do is heavily modify the positioning of the armor stands and then we're done... with one frame of animation... *Facepalm*
I also can mess around with some music if need be.
Well there is a way to record movement in mine craft, unfortunately it is a zombie being used with a player head but I'm sure I can re-texture armour to cover the arms:
So I've thought of an ending quest/objective to my map, the basis goes along the line of:
You have repaired your ship to operational status using the steel and other resources available from the strange world below you have named Portalus IV. It is time to find the portal back to the land you know as home. You generate an artificial portal and go in but on the other side, you are attacked by surveying UG (United Galaxies) ships. Using the newly discovered resources you have and new found knowledge, you successfully defend yourself. From there, you "say" a ending speech something like: "I know many changes have occurred back home, I am prepared to embrace that. But I also know a new dimension has now been discovered. That will change the battle between our RA (Rebel Army) and the UG."
I want to hear what your ending speeches could sound like.

You know, I might screw the ending and make like, map "chapters"
Sorry for not responding. I do this often. I drop out of minecraft for months at a time and then come back because I'm bored and need something to do.
A story line is always interesting. You can divide the story into chapters, which is also fairly interesting.
So this is basically a copy of "Planetary Confinement - The Dunes", just with a bit of background story
Never heard of that map. Also, this thread was made in April so I doubt he's still working on it.
I didn't notice it was that old. I just noticed your message was less then 5 hours old, so I went from there...
Woah. I would gladly help as best as I can.
