Problem is: The Map cant be Multi-Language with Voice actors.
But I think that this is only a problem for some people who don't really understand English.
One question: Will there be text in the map or only voice acting?
Voice-acting only would be a problem, because there aren't enough sounds in a ressourcepack. Maybe I'm wrong but I don't think there are enough for a long long map
But let's see.
PS: I hate the correcting keyboard on my iPad. I want to write something and it changes it....
We did address that last week and definitely wanted to add the ability to play the map without voice acting and just in-game text. We could, as well, have a version with both. I did remember you offered to translate to German, which would still be awesome of you to do.. We'll basically just have three different versions of the map people can play, with voice acting, without and subtitles, or both.
It's our intention to take advantage of resource packs and utilize them as much as possible. We also addressed that fact awhile ago that we only are doing voice acting for pivotal moments, scenes, or characters. Most NPCs, for example, will only be text based. There's only a few characters I can think of that basically require voice acting to make it more immersive, otherwise, we did not intend to attempt to go Elder Scrolls and have everything voice acted, that'd be insane and we all know the same voices would be overused anyways.
There will be just as much voice acting as Jeoffrey's Chambers, but this map will be much longer, so the voice overs will be spread out. So it won't be as periodic or central to the story as that map had it. The voiceacting will basically be in the beginning of the map, and during key moments such as clearing a pillar.
Those are both really good concerns though. I'm glad you brought them up.
Sounds like a very nice project. I'll keep my eye on this one.
Thanks! We'll definitely need testers whenever were ready for that phase of development, so keep an eye out for that as well! You won't be disappointed
Ok, good idea, just tell me, when I have to start the server. I'll buy a PSC and add it to my hosting money, so the server will run for 4 moths. After that we'll look.If we need more time, them I'll buy a PSC again
But don't worry, this hosted isn't expensive
No problem, sounds good! Hopefully as soon as possible, but we'll see. We do plan on using your host but we still have our own host running, so we're not positive which host we'll be staying on for the building process. We can jump back and forth if necessary, just makes it sort of a hassle. We'll see!
Exodus Hosting, simply because it was one of the cheaper options at the time. Seems reliable enough, located in Chicago, Illinois. So in the midwest of the U.S.
I'm still considering to use it, since it would be nice for me to have access to files, if that's alright with you. Still debating on what to do server-wise.
I have to say, though, I'm pretty much ready now. Unfortunately, Xanderin, who was originally co-creating, may not be able to participate as much as I hoped since he's working full-time, but he'll still help as much as he can, I'm sure. We're just most likely starting with out him because I hate to keep everyone waiting this long.
So basically, I'm pretty much ready to say we're "officially" starting. I want to gather everyone who's interested in helping in a Skype conversation, hopefully all at once, but maybe not if we can't get everyone at once. It is ideal, though, since it's my hope to have everyone basically building together.
So basically, leave your Skype if you haven't, or better yet, PM me it and I will add you. If I don't talk to any of you personally through a PM, I may contact you through your Skype to chat a bit and figure out a time for all of us to talk so I can lay the groundwork for everyone.
I want to give as much creative freedom to builders as possible. Although I have ideas for gameplay progression and locations of structures, I still want structure design and architecture to be basically completely in the builders' hands as long as it goes with the map style and story. Of course, there will still be a core concept that I will pitch, and if anyone has difficulty getting ideas for designs, I can give them examples. Otherwise, if you don't need examples, good nuts, basically.
We'll talk more in Skype, but this is just a taste of how I want the map-making process to go. I essentially want to make the creation process as fun as possible; since we are technically playing a game after all. The work should be fun and not feel like work, basically.
As I said, I'll go over in more detail in Skype, and try to give everyone the best direction as possible. I'm mostly going to be contributing in regards to the lore, sound design, music, and directing; but I still want to be with you guys during the building process as much as possible; and help anyone with anything they need, with builds or what have you. So I'm not a builder per say, but I'll help build designs for builders if they need some labor. =)
I now realize, even though I considered it before, that I should utilize my YouTube channel for map making recruitment. Originally I thought it wouldn't be the best idea due to the original lack of details and possibly interest; but I realize that I can no longer worry about copycats if I explain my whole outline through a video, since YouTube automatically files copyright rights for the uploader, and the outline has grown so much that I feel people will be interested.
This seems to be the best idea, since copyright is assured and I no longer have to worry.
You guys probably have no clue how anxious I've been to spill all the details on this universe's background, and the ideas I have in store. I'm even considering to go into my whole timeline and just tell people it's spoilers if they plan to play the map or future maps and don't want it ruined, since finding out as a player will be much more satisfying.
I now have ideas from the year -10 billion to up to 5130. This map takes place around Year 19, as I said, since the Hero is born Year 0. -10 billion is the creation of the universe, and I have a very fun idea in mind as the cause; lets just say absolutely everything ties together, but not as simply as one may think.
It's a lot of cause and effect, chaining up like crazy.
It's how the universe works, as well as good storytelling, which should always emphasize how every action and act of nature connects, linking to everything as a whole.
Stay tuned today or tomorrow for a video on Zareshra's Lore!
I'll cover the creation of the universe, the stars, the gods, creation of planets and it's inhabitants, then focus on Zareshra's creation, showcase it's map, it's geography, and explain how it correlates to the story, showing off key locations such as capital cities, the pillars, and other key places that play important roles in the story, introduce people to the two humanoid races of Zareshra: humans and testifacits, talk about the importance of Drakaria and the Drakarian people, including the rise and fall of it's empire, then talk about the different civilizations of humans and their technological differences; focus on Sidera's involvement in the planet's history, as well as another important character named Deum who causes Drakaria's rise and fall, then finally get into how the hero is born, his background, and where the player starts and how their quest will begin, and hopefully I'll even talk about the ending even in regards to gameplay. There's a lot of stuff in it's history happening in between, and 5,000 years of more stuff after the map's time period, so hopefully I can get to that, too! Who knows, maybe the video will be a two-parter due to the length they'll probably end up.

I know I mentioned I'd have that YouTube video up that would explain the story in depth. I did get caught up with RL things last two days, specifically helping my family with a Garage Sale which I didn't realize would basically take up my entire day both Friday and Saturday.
Well, today I'm completely free, and anxious to get this video made.
I'll be recording my voice over within the next hour or so here. I'll be reading off my entire outline, and then some. As I said earlier, there's actually quite a lot to go through, so the video may be in multiple parts.
Expect at least the first part up tonight, if not earlier in the night, late at night (such as early morning Monday). I'll be adding tons of visual aids to help people immerse themselves in the story I tell.

This sounds like quite an immersive adventure map, and has an intriguing back story so far (at least to me). I'd love to be a part of something this unique and immersive. I'm not going to keep writing otherwise it'll start rambling and get annoying. Videos/Pictures of your builds
My Outfitting A Pyramid topic: http://www.minecraft...topic/1434288-. That's all in Survival, as I have almost no pictures of my creative builds (double-checking this). I can get some for you if you'd like to see them, though: just let me know. Anything else you wish to add (Optional)
I'm not great at redstone, but I'm learning/testing to get better. I'm good at most styles of building to some extent (never tried Steampunk nor Victorian really). I guess that's really it; not much more I can think of.
Thank you two for applying! I'm adding you both on Skype. =)
I have the recording of Zareshra's lore up to Year 19. It ended up being 45 minutes long unedited, but I did stumble over my words a bit and needed to say certain things over, so the video may just be 40 min or something.
Still, it's over a half hour of lore, so I know you guys won't be dissapointed. I'm pleased to hear everyone likes the lore so far; it's making me all the more excited for you guys to hear the rest.
I know it'll be a long video explanation, but if you follow it, I think you'll love it!
I'm working on adding visuals now. I'm considering to just post the audio with no video now on YouTube until I get the rest edited, but I rather just get it edited.
So hopefully it's up in an hour or two, I promise!
Video's still rendering, says 40 min left, could be quicker since the estimated time isn't always accurate.
I didn't add as much visuals as I thought I would due to trying to get this up quicker so we can get started ASAP.
Still, the map of Zareshra is displayed the whole time so people can get a good idea of how it's shaped on that scale as they listen to the lore.
As I wrote this it says about 35 min left and it only took a minute to write, so I think it will render a bit quicker.
I don't think the upload would take more than an hour, but it is a 35 minute and 30 second video.
Either way, keep a look out on this thread tonight! I'm putting it up as fast as I can
Edit:
Also!
I added everyone on Skype who gave me their Skype info.
If you still haven't, please PM me it.
If you don't have Skype, it's free, so feel free to download it and then contact me with your username.
If you don't have a mic, don't worry, you can still talk through text.
I would prefer all builders to have a mic, but I'm not going to require it, only assume most will.
If I see any applicants who haven't given me their Skype after a few days, I'll PM them to try and get it.
Oh, and video says 19 min till rendering finishes =)
Hey guys, make sure to check out the video I just put up yesterday describing the lore!
Also, it would be awesome of any applicants to please leave me feedback on the lore, including questions on things you're not sure on, or even suggestions for the story if there's any continuity issues.
Overall, leave me some feedback on what you think of the lore so far!
I think I'll make another video showcasing my ideas for sound design, and hopefully some follow up videos on the lore, including explanations of gameplay during the map itself since the first video just goes into the background lore before "Hero of the Void" take places
First of all, it's impressive what you already made up for the story!
Those infos will be great for us builders, but we have to consider what we show the players. A giant wall of text can be frustrating for some people As of now, I dont think the lore before year 0 will be such important that we have to describe every single detail. I think its better to just set the mood with a few lines and then reveal the whole background story as the player pogress, maybe in form of books you can find (like in Skyrim?) But we will see when you post your other stuff
Thank you! =)
And yes, the lore was told specifically for builders.
I did not plan to describe the lore before Year 0 in detail to players
So to clarify, this video was made for builders to get an idea of my vision. The video explained the entire outline prior to Year 0, that does NOT mean it will all be explained in the map. My explanation was just for the entire universe, which could make up dozens of future Minecraft maps.
What you said was exactly my intention, I never intended to have that 35 minute video be an introduction. =P I'm not sure what made you think that, but I apologize for you getting that idea since it was probably my fault through not being clear.
My intention was for the player to start out not knowing anything about who they are and where they are, simply a young man/woman living in Newoak before it was called Newoak.
The player doesn't learn about their origin till they leave Newoak, go to Praecali, and meet their mother for the first time. She's still around, she just left her kid in Vacuo because she didn't want him to be influenced by humans, specifically Drakarians, and because of the Void Plague that was spreading, especially more so in Praecali then Newoak.
Also, the mother still only tells you a small bit, basically revealing to you that you're part demigod, but that's it, not much else, only a little bit about Deum.
I want the players to learn who Deum is through reliving his memories. Not sure if I mentioned it before, but Enaneh, the blade which Deum used and is now in the hands of Malum's forces, is something the player will seek out to use, and cleanse, to use against Malum.
The other important note is that Enaneh holds all the experiences of any wielder within the blade. As the Void Energy transferred to Deum, his life, his essence, transferred back in form of experience since Void Energy is known to take away life.
Also, yes!
You should totally play my old map "Power of the Void." What you said in regards to books, and revealing further Zareshra lore through that like Skyrim rather then narrative was exactly my intention because I've already done it before in "Power of the Void!"
My last map was extremely small compared to what this will be, but I did wrote two books in it that people had the option to read. One was labeled, "Drakarians" and the other was "Enderman."
TL;DR
That video just explains my entire universe's lore up to Year 0, and doesn't mean it'll be explained in "Hero of the Void."
It was simply for builders to use to get a better idea of my vision.
Could you make a sheet with all the names of characters and places with a little note who/what/where they are? I think this will be helpful
That's an excellent idea! I did plan on reconstructing this thread to make it a bit more organized and accommodate story changes, so I will definitely incorporate that!
As for "Power of the Void" I wanted to play it, but it says it's for 1.3... Can I play it with 1.5.2 or will it break?
Awesome
Right >< Well, you could use MCNostalgia or something of the sort to downgrade to 1.3 is what I'd recommend.
I think it will still technically play in 1.5.2, but I think I remember trying recently and it is very buggy due to updates.
You could still do it just to get an idea of the story, but idk if the bugs will make it worth it.
It's not too big of a deal, there wasn't a whole lot of story in Power of the Void, and it was just a very small project I made myself for fun, to me it's nothing compared to what I plan on Hero of the Void to be.
One thing you could do is download the map and just read the notes to see how that story went.
As I said, there wasn't much story, so it isn't too important.
I suppose I would say to at least read the two Books in Power of the Void, which back then are just .txt files.
So you just need to download the map zip and open the Books folder. =)
Oh, and there are a few grammar issues in that map as well, so you've been warned. =P I plan to actually have someone else read over the Hero of the Void text and be my editor since spellcheck isn't enough sometimes to be honest haha.

Hey! I'm adding you on Skype to talk to you further about the map and how we are going about building it =) I appreciate the extra info you add, I'm definitely not bias towards age, I'm 21 but I've been using the internet since I was about 8 with dial up, and I know how dumb people can be when caring about age, yet most people guessed I was at least 18 when I was only 14, so maturity goes much longer way =) Nice info on political views xD Don't worry though, politics won't be an issue when designing the map =) I appreciate the info, though.
The server is technically running, but I'm still working on getting it set up and ready to go for builders. I'm having another applicant help me set it up and advise me on plug-ins to use, and as well as setting up config files, which they happily offered to supply, which is very nice of them and much appreciated =)
I, of course, still need to talk to all the builders to better inform them on the map's progression, the gameplay, and more details on plot and story. And of course, we'll need to talk aesthetics and architecture, maybe even have all the builders supply ideas for certain things, such as a house design, then have everyone vote on their favorite. Either way, it's going to be a fairly small team, and very collaborative. I think it would be nice to have everyone on at the same time, building together =D

Anything else you wish to add (Optional)
I'm not great at redstone, but I'm learning/testing to get better. I'm good at most styles of building to some extent (never tried Steampunk nor Victorian really). I guess that's really it; not much more I can think of.
Probably will actually be about 10 at the most
Edit #2:
It's up!
Thank you!
That's an excellent idea! I did plan on reconstructing this thread to make it a bit more organized and accommodate story changes, so I will definitely incorporate that!
It is quite a lot information to remember
I plan to actually have someone else read over the Hero of the Void text and be my editor since spellcheck isn't enough sometimes to be honest haha.
Otherwise, I'm going to get to working on posting the timeline but with quick notes on what happens during each key year.
I'll also work on a nicely organized character list!
Otherwise, I've messaged everyone else who applied and never gave me a Skype on here and awaiting their Skype info.
If you have not talked to me on Skype, please be signed in on Skype as much as you can, such as whenever you're on the computer.
I want to talk to everyone to make sure everything's clear for them.
I'm so ready to get you all building, but I think it would be best to get you all together for a Skype convo.
Then hopefully you'll all be building together! =D
We'll start with Oakton, the village of which the player starts out in!

Last, just pm me, through youtube, its easier in my opinion, I know that's weird but its just what I think, im on it more than I am on here
