One idea we've been discussing stemmed out of another idea I had. I was suggesting "Make a map based off a love song, like taking the lyrics literally", but someone mentioned it might be more open to just let everyone pick any song and go from there. How's that sound?
Oh my god, that would be amazing. Make it happen!

Skeletons and Songs?I don't really understand this theme.
The idea is to pick a song and take the lyrics literally, so if it said, I don't know, 'Thunderbolt and lightning' (which is a line in Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody), you'd have to do something with lightening. 'Skeletons and songs' is just a neat name for it.
And Fang, can we use Minecraft Parodies of songs instead of the actual songs?

I feel like MC parodies are a bit too on the nose, making the theme a bit too easy... and most of them suck anyway
Maybe a more ctm oriented theme, like jungle map, or ice themed maps. We can see who the best map maker is with a certain palette and theme
You can really do that in normal map releases though. I honestly want to try and push the Jam format to be something a lot more experimental - have people really take some risks and do some weird stuff, instead of just sitting with more generic themes honestly. Shattered Sky is really the only recent one that used a more generic theme after all.
I feel as though a dinosaur theme would be kinda weird. Making big dinosaur like statues or mobs and putting them in the wildlife. It would be very forced and extremely hard to work with.
prehistory antiquity ancient feral primal sylvan ...
There we go, yeah that makes a bit more sense. A Prehistoric style map could be cool. Not sure how that'd translate as a jam map though as it'd need a lot of detail.
Maybe you could toy with the idea more and make some kind of time-travel theme. Like either the map progresses through time in a linear fashion or it's a mashup of a bunch of different times together like some sort of time paradox.

That's basically already been done. The theme of the second Jam was "Time".
The question is obvious ... The Sketch and TikaroHD participate this time? XD
If I have time, then yeah. I've already come up with a good song to use assuming that's the theme that ends up being chosen.

I do like the idea of a map theme being based around a specific time like "prehistoric", but I think that could be saved for a different Jam. Personally I love the idea of a literal song theme because it requires some thought, allows for lots of creativity, and will produce a nice variation in the maps.
Alright, with the Jam officially decided as "Skeletons and Songs (Pick a song, make a map that takes the lyrics literally)", we'll once again be running it over three waves!
The current dates I'd like to propose are as follows:
- Wave 1: February 12-14
- Wave 2: February 19-21
- Wave 3: February 26-28
Thoughts, objections, need for an additional weekend, ect?
I like those dates, my only complaint is that currently Wave 3 is four days while Waves 1 and 2 are only three. I think they should all be the same length.
Wait what?

A poll has been opened regarding Jam #9. Please vote!
Yay, another Jam! Can't wait for this one to get underway!
Side Question: If we do the Skeletons and Songs one and we want to do a song that doesn't have any lyrics, are we allowed to use that song?
You'd need to use a song with lyrics, since it's kinda hard to take the lyrics literally if there are none

I suspected you would say that! No matter, I have plenty of other options
Gonna let the poll run until Sunday, but it looks like Skeletons and Songs might be taking it!

I don't care about the Xs. You can call me Navarog. Or Nava if you really want to be a hipster. It's fine.
