Sure, there were custom mobs, and nice aesthetics, but this map is beatable within half an hour. And while it is a "Mini-CTM", this one proved to be extra mini.
There was little difficulty, but there was also little creativity.
This is not really an air based map, it is simply floating isles, and nothing more.
However, the aesthetics in the map are relatively sound, but that is all I will give him. I was not gaping in awe at the beautiful areas.
5/10
No offense, Sylf. But a bad map is a bad map. That's not to say you can't improve.
I think that was pretty god damn harsh.
I've been following this jam since it's start and made the original banner for it, so I've seen how everyone interacts with each other during the Jams. The point of this is to show off your skills to other mappers, get some mapping practice, advice and constructive criticism.
Do not give feedback if it doesn't benefit the mapper. This isn't beta testing for a map that will be revised later, this a one time thing so any feedback should help the Mapper improve in some way for future maps.
I rate your critique skills 1/10 in this such environment.
Not only was it rude and condescending but offered no constructive criticism that would benefit anyone. You only gave what you felt was wrong with map and gave no suggestions to improve which makes your critique 100% useless.
Do not give feedback if it doesn't benefit or help the mapper.
I feel as if this is an environment meant to help people and have fun mapping, so people should not be leaving reviews/critiques that don't benefit anyone.

Dictionaries everywhere and like Wikipedia: "The purpose of constructive criticism is to improve the outcome."
Sylf fell into the same traps many first-time CTMers do. There was a lame four way intersection/monument, corrupted paths, and cliche areas. These all proved to be simply annoying, and didn't really help to add to the atmosphere of the map.
What he could have done to stay closer to his theme is actually make each of the areas related to air. This is not really an air based map, it is simply floating isles, and nothing more.
Sylf could have much better represented the theme
The map seems too rushed, and unfortunately, it doesn't work out.
Specific Comments: The double helix area was too annoying for me to bother...
You could have put obsidian at the top of the tower to prevent pillaring.
You should have made some sort of fleecy box.
Honestly, the clouds represent the theme pretty well, but that doesn't explain the rotten tree area and the tower, there was no explanation for why these isles were floating.
Looking back now, the yellow wool platform was a block closer to the monument than the red. Was this intentional?
Adjustment: I almost forgot about the spawn area! That was actually done pretty well despite the floating isle issue IMO. That brought the score up to a 5/10.

Aight so I made a map for this jam and it's pretty gud
"The purpose of constructive criticism is to improve the outcome."
I'd say all of this is constructive...
If the purpose of constructive criticism is to improve the outcome, you should look at what I said.
"This isn't beta testing for a map that will be revised later, this a one time thing so any feedback should help the Mapper improve in some way for future maps."
None of what he said would help Sylf improve for another map. Most of it was in beta testing style which works great if the mapper plans on revising the map, but since that's not how it works here, the outcome that the constructive criticism should help is the mapper and his skills, not the map because that will never be edited or fixed.
It's about the advice you can take away from the experience to improve yourself, not the advice that serves only to tell you that a map built in 48 hours is "too rushed" or is just flat out "A crappy map".
If I was the mapper that got that review I wouldn't be improving at all based on the feedback because none of it helped.
None of what he said would help Sylf improve for another map.
A 72 hour map != any kind of months and months of mapping
People aren't in here to get feedback on their styles, they're here to challenge themselves with a time limit and work on concepts that may not fit in their own maps.

Literally not even looking at Technic's criticism.

Yes. All of that, but in a friendly environment so they can continue to improve and challenge themselves. Honestly I've been around this town for a long time before this got transferred over to Drago, and you seem like a fairly new face to the Strawberry Jam.
People come to map here for a few reasons: To challenge themselves, to improve, to show off there talent, to be involved with other map makers in the community, and most of all: To have fun.

If they wanted criticism on their style or whatever, they should ask for it. The map is there; the map shall be talked about.
I personally hand checked all 31 original pages of the strawberry jam before it was locked and the 34 pages of the reduxed version just to make sure, and found your presence nowhere mentioned up until your post here today.
So like I said you seem like a new face maybe because I've never seen or heard you mentioned at all in the strawberry jam up until now.
Alright I've had about enough. This is, and always has been a friendly environment. That should never change. I've made my points you've made your's, and if you think I'm wrong for saying Technic's criticism isn't constructive, you're welcome to join my ignore list.

Hey hey map makers, I'm alive.
Everything seems to be going along pretty well. I couldn't participate in this jam because I'm currently on vacation, but I may make a map when I'm back with the jam rules just to challenge myself and practice some stuff. Also the vowel thing seems to have made tons of different and very unique maps, which is quite nice.
And if you can finish that map in time Sketch with it being at least a 6/10 map, I'll humbly bow down to you good sir (but seriously, props to you for deciding to do that. I like the idea).
Let me also show some progress:
First wool area, about 60% finished, still have to make the actual dungeon inside the structure and take care of some aesthetic details.
Hmmm, I think that you went into the map slightly biased in thinking that, oh, it was made in a day, therefore it must be bad. Secondly, I don't think your review is that fair due to the fact that as you stated yourself, you bridged over most of the areas and I will update the rules to stop players from doing that. What I find most frustrating is that you offered little to no suggestions on how to fix the problems that you have mentioned.

Doesn't improve anyone's map jam experience in the slightest.
I'm not willing to argue this further. My points are there, and only hope Drago decides to add my rule.

Listen, you're free to put down my map as much as you want. Also, after looking at my first version of the post, I decided it wasn't fair enough, so I put some extra bits.
By the way, I wouldn't put "no pillaring/bridging" as a rule, that is a pretty lame move that hinders your creativity. Rather than do that, come up with ways to prevent people from doing those kinds of things.
By the way, I hate when people say pillaring is bad, it is a perfectly viable startegy. I think a good way to prevent pillaring is by hindering the amount of resources people have to the point where they have to go for the chests or they won't be able to beat the map. However, this brings up another point about why the map was bad. There was much too many resources. You don't want to expect 5 people will be playing the map, you should expect at most two. In fact, for the purposes of this jam, I think anyone balancing their map should balance it around only one person. This is a pretty small thread, and there is not likely to be many people playing all the maps, much less with friends.
To end the afore-quoted discussion, I am not being biased against any map, trust me, I love Sylf as a person, but I am judging these maps based on the map, not based on the person who made them. I am not going to hold back just because somebody will feel bad, just as a real critic would do.
I honestly don't think that I made Sylf feel bad, and if he does, then he can simply ignore everything I say.

My review was perfectly fine; free speech is a thing on the internet; stop arguing about it.

Done the first 2 areas visually, might have to change something in the starting area, and still need to put custom spawners/trees in the

This is the dungeon itself. It's a massive tower on top of a hill in the middle of the Firestorm Fields. Any sponges you see are being replaced with spawners.
This is one of the many towers that litter the Firestorm Fields. This type has a ghast spawner in the top and a blaze spawner in the bottom.
The bottom spawner in this tower will spawn a custom mob (probably a zombie) with a fire theme. Fire aspect weapon, etc., etc. The top spawner is probably going to be a falling-sand fire block.
So as to not make the area far too hard, this spawner spawns fire resistance.
I still have to add a few structures around the fields, perhaps spruce up the tower a bit more (any suggestions on that?), and replace all the sponges with actual spawners. Then it's on to the next area.
Also, I'm aiming for "pretty hard" difficulty. Just FYI.
