Area name: Leaves of Autumn
Location: Int. 2, Area 1
Difficulty: 5.0 / 10.0
Objectives: Light blue wool
EDIT: paeg git. git rekt
I dig it! I've always had a soft spot for deep dark forest areas and these pics do not disappoint. I like the staircase but I am curious why you have 1 stripe of cobble on the stairs.
_________
Latest snapshot has a new /title command!
I already wrote the code to display a title for my map. I am curious what other uses you can think of for this?
I am going to test the title with my berserker feature. So currently, every X kills triggers some effects on you for X seconds. I want to test that feature but have something flash on the screen that says "BERSERKER!" or something cool. I didn't work out the details yet. It reminds me of the text that would pop up in old NES games telling you where to go.
Titles, great feature for map makers!
PS, when you enter your house/base it can flash on the screen "Welcome Home".

Well you can consider it a fact (not opinion, true fact) that void only increases difficulty if it encourages the player to take LESS gear since they might lose it all. If you force the player to take their best gear, you basically set the difficulty to hardcore. That doesn't make it harder, just lamer.
I have to second this.
I've played areas in maps before where it was so hard you had to use the best gear at your disposal.. and if you died you could basically kiss that gear goodbye (Not very fun). Areas above void/lava can be played strategically as well so that you drastically decrease chances of death if you're willing to put in that work.. so it's not like they are cheap instant deaths.. you just have to be smart.
Darn it. Now I'll have to wait a few more months till I can release mah map. I guess I release in the most stable snapshot then...
Yeahh, that was the first thing I thought of. Part of the reason I've been powering through testing your map was so that you could get it out sooner for 1.8 but I guess that doesn't matter anymore..
Alright, hi guys. I've been trying to map recently, and I just can't really find any inspiration. I don't really know what to do about this, do any of you have any ideas about what to do to get me back into mapping?
Yeah, the walls can use some work for sure. Use smoothed double-slab blocks (43:8 is the ID) instead of the normal ones. Also just dynamic lighting will probably make this look a lot better. Use darkness to hide the parts that look less than beautimuss
Well, for "dynamic lightning", I just placed Redstone Torches on the bridge.

Need inspiration? Google "fantasy landscape wallpapers".

See! It looks a lot better! Also try doing some slab-stair patterns on the walls to add depth. Circle brick here and there where it fits will also help with texture variation. And of course if this is a run down area, vines would be an appropriate way to add color

For me, I started with a plain old Survival World. After a few days I got myself a full, good set of diamond gear. Than after I felt that I achieved something great, I ended up using commands and giving myself everything I needed. After I did lots and lots in the world I ended up deleting it and starting over with a fresh world. Same thing happened with every Survival world I made. I myself am not a big fan of Creative mode unless your testing stuff out. At the time, I didn't enjoy making mega builds only possible in Creative, without any purpose other than to look good. Then of course I found out about Adventure, Challenge, and CTM maps. During the first play through of one of the first Full-Sized CTM maps, I got to thinking that CTM maps must be fun to make. So I tried my hand at map making and I am still going at it. My main source of inspiration is that I play through other peoples maps and evolving ideas that I see there and using them in my map. (I lost my train of thought several times, I hope this maps sense)
TL;DR - Play others maps and decide whether map making is something you really want to do. If it is, get a source of inspiration, like watching LPs of others maps, or playing through other maps!

Well I've been working on various iterations for well over a year now, so I definitely do want to finish it. But yes, I shall go play other maps. Fare ye well till I ragequit.
Ok, so this is VERY work in progress. I still need to add detail to the walls, block variation to the walls, some lights on the ceiling, and make some pathways between the book cases. But hey, its a start!
I'll send another pic yo peoples way whenever i finish this room.

I'd be lying if I said it wasn't inspired by that a lil' bit...ok maybe a lotta bit

Ok, so i finished most of the touching up, though i still need to do something with the walls i think...and maybe break up the outter edge paths, add some holes in them. But regardless, its mostly kind finished...ish...
Behold! The Primary Storage of BuckleBlast Foundry! Home to all of BuckleBlast's archives, and some of the company's most precious possessions, including the Lime Power Vessel.

I like it, but a bit too much variation in the walls. Try adding the sandstone in in other ways other than just pure variation
Thanks for the congrats wishes! I lol'd at my desk. MC needs balloons before you can do a party like that.

Swim little man! The shark is coming!
happy to oblige
Yipes. Guess SI will have to come out without the 1.8 features I want to use.

I don't know what you had in mind exactly, but you could always update it down the road? Unless it'd just be too much work.

Argus is not pleased with your creation.
The Archives mutter a bit reluctantly.
I would give you my opinion on the area.. but I don't think my gamma goes that high. </3
I look forward to seeing the final product though.
