Hmm well yeah... obsidian and bedrock isn't fun i guess. You want to give the player freedom right? It looks well together, but the sandstone is out of place. It feels like a black wool area?
@Grubbid The obsidian on the floor is a placeholder and will be replaced with something else later but the actual building is made of black stained clay and I think those two contrast nicely...
Also, finito!!
In the picture you used 13 different blocks in one small room, dont you think you're overdoing things a little bit? The structure is nice though but there is way too much contrast. Also the sandstone and lava look REALLY out of place.
The sandstone is a placeholder cus I derped with the lava, ignore it!!! The obsidian on the floor will also be changed to cyan clay to mathch the rest of the build as well
Jaws of the World is now officially completed, leaving me with only the Gray Wool area to complete before I03 is all done. Progress will likely still be going slow, but I'm definitely moving ahead.
Here's another view of the area for good measure.
*snip*
One of the things I've noticed about screenshots you've put out recently:
They're all kind of dark, and they are rarely colorful, but in my opinion that's a very good thing with Dreadsky Depths as a whole. Things like the streaks of sandstone going through the stone instead of just having them be spread evenly really makes the areas seem cave-themed instead of just being areas that take place underground.
Basically, what I'm saying is that if the rest of the map is made in the same style as that screenshot, Dreadsky Depths will be the first true cave-themed map to come out in a very long time. And that's something I'm definitely looking forward to.

Your block variation is terrible, You can't just throw 13 block types together they have to go good with each other. Nothing in this picture makes sense and it's all condensed into a tiny cavern hardly big enough to fit. The obsidian spikes should only be used in large areas, Not tiny caves and also the lava shooting out of them looks very derpy and random. Block variation should be 3-6 block types that work well with each other. You want feedback there you go!
Heez man! That was harsh!! Are you in a bad mood or something? Anyways, The back of the area is grayscale so it doesn't impact on the build too much, and the spikes are supposed to have grown into the building, the lava also creates points of interest in the cave behind it, (IT'S NO THE ONLY BIT IN THE CAVERN SO DON"T ASSUME THINGS!!) the castle is a different colour cus it's supposed to stand out!!
Well, lots of changes have been made for mapmakers, if you hadn't seen them... most notably an @e selector for entities of any type, and the /execute command which I have no idea what it does but people seem excited. Something to do with executing commands relative to entities?
Also, Monumenta needs a reset. Or at least, needs to be online.
Ah I'll be sure to look into that! And yeah I know, I'm on it.
Also, lookin good Drago!

Stop please. This isn't going to help you out. If you ask for feedback, the worst feedback you can get is "looking good". Because there are very few things that look good instantly. You ask for feedback to improve right?
You can try defend your creation against us, if you want to see it like that, but that won't make your map any better.
Don't worry though, many people do it wrong. I'll try help you a little bit.
So, you want to improve your area. Let's see first then, what isn't good at it atm. People said the following:
Your block variation is terrible
overdoing things a little
way too much contrast
So yeah... What can you learn from this? Of course it isn't very nice the way they said it, but well... you're going to have to live with that. If I show my first take at an area to my friend, he usually says "awful"...
But what does it learn you, if you think about it? There is just 1 factor going on. Try find it out yourself.
Ok, so, we got too much variation, and too much contrast, too small area. Doesn't that lead to one thing? It seems that there is something missing. A focus point. You're picture lacks focus. Everything collides with eachother. So when people look at it, they don't know what to prioritize (how do you type that word?). Of course you can do as they said, and make less variation, or make the area bigger. That will work a little bit, but the result will suffer a bit from that. The variation isn't the problem. Nor is the size the problem. Try add a "feel" to your picture, by making a flow. Make everything point at one main thing. Make that thing really stand out, and all the other elements just be there to compliment your main attraction. It doesn't have to be the dungeon. It can be the ceiling, the roof, the door, or even the spawner next to it.
I hoped this helped you a little. And I would really like to see a next picture, after some work put into it. Remember: Dont expect people to call it nice. You want to make a great looking map, you don't want great comments. Unless it's done. Then you can enjoy

Honestly, looking at it now, he's got some good points though. The Block variation is hard to look at, and the obsidian/lava feels very out of place there :/
Whenever you feel someone gets too much credit, you're missing out on different points of view. This CTM-thread is a bit of die-hard congregation, you know....
I'll defend the noobs, derps and run-of-the-mill players again by making the following statement, and I'll exaggerate a bit again by stating it crudely: CTM nowadays easily gets confiscated by the epic-combat-in-epic-surroundings approach.
What attracts loads of noobs, derps and run-of-the-mill players to the original Vechs maps still, is the fact that most of those maps are worlds you can want to live and linger in, and elaborate on many survival activities as much as you please. The attention payed to the *survival* function of blocks, for example, is unsurpassed and it dominates over looks with good reason. And everybody is welcome: there is always the possibilty to take on an area in different ways, from slow and hiding behind blocks, to daring and dashing.
Before I infuriate you or anyone else: all of this is my best try at another point of view, straight from the heart of an enthusiast, and full of appreciation for map-making and map-makers.
My point isn't that noobs thank Vechs for creating CTM (I honestly wouldn't mind as much). But I find it disturbing that they are hopping on to established threads with a few maps released and saying stuff like "this is a ripoff and copy of Vechs' maps" or "you forgot to credit Vechs because he is the best".
I don't really mind that the noobs or "run-of-the-mill players" prefer Vechs' maps, but the thing is most of them feel that way simply because they haven't tried / haven't bothered / dislike due to difficulty or "not-Vechsness" other maps.
@Sylf I don't mean to offend anyone, but your castle (and the cave as a whole) has clashing block variation. Do you want your castle to stand out because of its beauty or the fact that it's an eyesore? And no, I don't think Brock was in a bad mood. He was stating facts, which you asked for when you requested feedback. Rejecting feedback does not automatically make your areas prettier.

Well, could we please not fall into the vechs is good/bad discussion? I'll try keep it at that too.

If you're going to give feedback, don't give it like an meaniebutt
How best should we deal with haters that claim CTM maps are ripoff a of Vechs' work?
Ignore? No really... They will just fade a way over time. I mean, when someone invents something, and people come with it (like movies, or books, or anything), there will always be people saying it's plagiarism (i really need to find easier words). Eventually there will be so many maps, that vechs will be slowly forgotten, and with that the entire hype. Takes time though.
@Infamy yup. That's right. See my post up there ^^
Settle down guys, we haven't had a big argument in a long time and i hope to keep it that way. Block expressed his opinions harshly and sylf overreacted a bit, its not a big deal, its maps for a video game for gods sake, no need to take things so seriously.

house refers to buildings. But if you're switching out the obsidian, it doesn't matter.

Fun Fact: It's BRock lol and I wasn't trying to be mean
Meep!! I didn't know that answer would cause that much controversy!! Anyways, what should I change? Remove the bedrock perhaps? Change the castles colours to stone brick ore something?

Laingral should be continued (restarted). No official claims or anything, just some hints
