What are some good, simple ctm maps? I'm probably just gonna play spellbound caves again tbh still my favorite map
Most of the good CTMs aren't really "simple" per say. However there are a few maps I'd recommend that are fairly light on command blocks and not many crazy mechanics. Most notably the Minimalist and the Remote District series. Discordancy is a pretty good map that came out recently that is a bit heavier on the command blocks but is still pretty easy to understand and not very confusing. Personally if I were you I would experiment with some different CTMs rather than limiting yourself to Spellbound Caves and "simple" maps. You will find a lot of great content if you try new things and search around.

Simulation Protocol 2 : Overload is a fantastic map that's pretty light on the command block gimmicks. If you like Spellbound Caves t'll feel more like a natural progression than trying to jump straight into Ragecraft or something, as it's both not too hard and fairly direct.
I've tried Discordancy, and it was alot better than most other maps I've played recently but a few things bothered me about it (I don't remember what tbh) and i deleted it.
I will probably play minimalist, I forgot about that one and i wanted to play it
I'm not against different types of ctms I actually command blocks in certain situations and use them myself. I just don't like maps like terra restore for example where it feels like I don't need to build anything and barely interact with the environment. And theres all sorts of animations and stuff and unlocked areas, but then I don't have to do anything with the unlocked areas and don't spend anytime there anyway.

yeah I understand that and feel the same way sometimes. Terra Restore isn't really my thing since it feels much like an adventure map as much as it is a ctm. Like Kaladun said SP:02 is a really good map for what you are describing. Once you feel like you are up to it definitely check out ragecraft 2 and 3. A lot of the mechanics have to do with command blocks but you will have to interact within the environment. Plus it has a lot of cool special items and mobs.
Hi, I'm new to this forum, although it's not my first time visiting it. I had a question for which I searched long and wide and couldn't find an answer. Does Optifine support layered CTM? For example as in randomized tiles for a Horizontal type CTM? I tried following the instructions on several threads that explain how to create/se CTM resource packs and I couldn't get it to work, which leads me to believe that it's simply not supported. Does anybody know anything regarding layered CTM and Optifine? Any comments are much appreciated.

Yeah, terra restore 2 didn't feel like a ctm. I loved it and it's one of my favorite maps of all time, but i almost don't want to call it a ctm. It was more a adventure. Too me a ctm is a map where you have to not only conquer dungions, but make a base and use the dungions for resources.
It's great fun! Best part of it for me has to be annoying players fishing by steering my boat in the way of their lines, hooking them with my own rod then dragging them into the water. Other than that, the map is rather difficult. It feels like a Super Hostile MMO tbh. I highly recommend it.
I'd recommend it more if it: wasn't $5 a month, made by Vechs, poorly designed from a gameplay standpoint, wasn't $5 a month, have the stupid reset mechanic, was a good map beyond it being derpy survival with friends, wasn't $5 a month.
(The quality is not worth paying for is what I'm saying)

Have to agree with Krose and navarog you can't make a full opinion if you don't play on it and it is surprisingly very fun. It doesn't have great balance and the aesthetics aren't fantastic but so far I've had an enjoyable experience. I went in thinking it was an over priced mess but its one of those things you really have to experience to form an opinion on. If you played it yourself maybe I'd respect your opinion but for know its better to just look the other way when you comment on it.
Maybe its just enjoyable because we are playing with friends and I definitely wouldn't pay for it if it was solo however I see no problem with only having fun with friends on it because it is designed for multiplayer.
Because you're not on the whitelist. I just checked. So your opinion is wholly pie-in-the-sky inaccurate
Alright, this objection is kind of silly. In the age of youtube and twitch, saying you must play something yourself to be able to have an opinion makes little sense. I don't have to have played the original Civilization or Half-Life 2 know how good they are and how profound an influence they've had on game design. Similarly, I don't have to play Superman 64 or the Atari ET game to know they're trash, because loads of other people have done it for me, shown video, and often provided amusing commentary to boot. In fact, it's often even easier to analyze the gameplay as an outside observer, as it divorces you from the possibility of not enjoying a well made game or liking a badly made one*, as Nbtrainor alluded might be the case. Saying "you haven't played it so you can't have an opinion" is just as fallacious as saying "you just like it because you're a Vechs fanboy" or similar accusations.
As for my thoughts on SHO, Krose is right, $5 isn't that much in the grand scheme of things. However, Navarog's description of "gameplay is good, it's fairly attractive aesthetically, there are mobs with special drops, and it's bursting with interesting features" and Nbtrainor's similar sentiment makes me vary wary of it. Because off the top of my head I can list a half dozen maps with great gameplay, gorgeous aesthetics, brilliant custom mobs, and oodles of amazing features. For free. Maybe $5 isn't a lot in the grand terms of life, but it's infinitely more than any CtM map has ever charged before, and, at least for me, that is pause for thought.
*And I think most people have some games for which these are true. For example, I don't personally enjoy Binding of Issac but I acknowledge it's a very good game, and I love the board game Kill Doctor Lucky even though it has several mechanics that are really rage-inducing.
I'd happily try it if it was free, but I have yet to be convinced it's worth spending $5 on. Regardless of everyone's thoughts now, I think the real test of its quality will be if people are still playing it a month or two after all the launch hype has died down. If there's still an active community then of people who've been playing since the beginning and a steadily growing player-base then I'll gladly join.
You just cannot form a valid opinion on the gameplay of SHO based on watching a video. You can certainly get an idea of the aesthetics, and you're right about that. You really need to immerse yourself in the gameplay to form an opinion. I get that when you have to pay for it, it can make you reluctant. I agree with that. But saying you can know whether the gameplay is good based on a video just isn't true.
There's a reason we don't do reviews based on watching LP's.

I don't care about the Xs. You can call me Navarog. Or Nava if you really want to be a hipster. It's fine.

Agreed completely. It really doesn't look like something I'd be interested in. And yeah , its like watching a movie trailer. For example , if I see a trailer for a new film by say , David Lynch (Somebody I admire.) , I'll take a look at it. and with SHO , it doesn't interest me. Kaladun hit it right on the head, and NB's statement pretty much backed up what I was saying.
You can easily get an opinion of something watching others play it. I watched Aura stream it. I listened to people in the Discord as they explored for hours. There's loads of games I've never played that I know all about. I've never touched World of Warcraft yet I know about its deep history, the quality of the game, the excitement of early raids, the interesting lore and worldbuilding and story. I have a full opinion on what the game was, is, and is becoming, yet I've never once even played a trial of the game. Are you telling me from the tons of content I've viewed about it that I can't have an opinion on the quality of the game?
And regarding SHO, I very much do have an opinion, not just on the core quality of it, but also the whole background. Congrats, you guys had fun. Congrats, you're still playing something that is objectively bad. You could open a default survival world, something generated completely at random, and if you throw a bunch of friends at it you'll still have fun. I used to do a thing called ***** Game Thursdays with friends where we'd intentionally play awful games together and still enjoy ourselves because it was about the friendship and the laughs, not the quality. But even beyond that, you're paying $5 (or more) a month to someone who refuses to become part of the community, learn from the community, or even acknowledge that others have made maps, outside of... Amlup? and who continues to isolate himself while ripping on anyone else who makes CTM maps.
Are we all forgetting his statement about how anyone making CTMs is just trying to rip off his stuff and is doing nothing creative he hasn't done? Losing yourself in the excitement of a new project from Papa CTM?
Seriously, you are PAYING MONEY for a weakly made map with bad aesthetics, weak mechanics... and on a server in multiplayer, to the creator, when dozens upon dozens of more skilled mapmakers are releasing things of legitimate quality for free every month. You want to know why I'm being cynical about this? It's due to all of that. You guys are giving money to someone who is taking advantage of his fans, by producing content that, to me, seems incredibly low effort/low quality in exchange for cash, while those creating things of high quality for lots of effort are not being paid, they're just doing it for the love of a game.

I think you have the wrong kind of CTM here- we don't do resource packs. This is a discussion thread for Complete the Monument maps.
I don't care about the Xs. You can call me Navarog. Or Nava if you really want to be a hipster. It's fine.
Like nava mentioned, this is for Complete the Monument and not CTM texture packs, but off of what I quick googled, it looks like this could help you.

Hello CTM Community. <3
I'd really like to spend my $5/month on Vechs, unfortunately my $5/month were already used as a part to survive my college life.
But I'm more excited that he's less than 500 bucks away to showing his face to the public! (Hopefully)
