Hey! I really need some help with block variation in this area. If you cant tell its suppose to be a canyon area. And i cant think of what i want for block variation. Other ideas and thoughts would be amazing
Thanks!
You know some areas just look better without variation and I think this area may be one of them. I can't really think of anything. Brown stained clay might look good, but I honestly don't know. i think it is pretty good how it is.

If you want to go Mesa-Style, then try bands of brown, yellow, red, white etc., stained clay.
Or you could just splash some quartz or stone there, to break up the clay.
Edit: The grass in the last picture is nice, but the colour is kind of dull. You could make it jungle green, or forest green, instead of the current biome you're using.

I have it that dull because it is suppose to be sort of dead looking and abandoned and.... stuff

I think that just adding one or two colors of stained clay would look good so that it compliments the dull grass. (Light gray or brown maybe?) I think you should otherwise just stick with the one main texture of clay that you have; adding others just wouldn't blend well. I really like the bits of dull grass though and small clumps or soulsand might look nice too if used sparingly.

Yeah that's a tough problem. I want the player to setup his own cannons too. What I will maybe do is make some sort of siege tower thingy with tnt chests inside it and turn these funboxes into something more obvious to shoot at with tnt. Not sure how though, which is why I asked for feedback
An option can be a turret where you can spawn a Fire Charge and then you can punch it in any direction you want. Or you can give it motion so it goes where you want.

What do you like and dislike about custom mobs? Do you like mobs that look really well "put together" or are just well balanced with unique features?
Custom mobs... i'm usually kinda scared of those, since a lot of people think that a new custom mob provides new gameplay. Most custom mobs seem really lame, and only have like swiftness, or strength, a weapon, or armour. That doesn't really add to the gameplay.
Best custom mobs I've seen so far are the creepers in Hypercharged and the zistykins/piglets in Ragepigglet village/Inferno mines. Those both provide an entirely new gameplay mechanic. Custom mobs need to add gameplay imo, or be 100% aesthetical. Don't try to make gameplay without adding it.
A few ideas I had to give you inspiration (you can use them, but I consider it lame)
Ghasts in water
Creepers with knockback resistance and projectile protection
Blazes riding invisible pigmen
etc....
@R3DWING I'd like to use TNT cannons. I want players setting up cannons and bombard an area, just because I think that is cool.
You might like the mobs in my upcoming map then. They all use the new cmd block stuff to do things like a vampire that turns into a bat, a spider queen that lays eggs that hatch or even boss mobs made of actual blocks.
That's not what I exactly meant... I don't really like CMD blocks in CTM maps... They don't feel.... right...
E: Not saying that you shouldn't do those mobs though. But I just like it most if it's close to the vanilla game, and makes it feel completely different without going beyond basic game knowledge, so it's understandable to every player.
Anti-Knockback Creepers were already used somewhere, don't remember where.
Ghast in Water in "The Jellyfishes are Mad" from Animosity, don't like them very much. :/
Ok that's lame. Vechs got the skelly boat thing recorded as well, so can't use that either without causing tons of hate Need to think of new stuff I guess...

I'm a fan of custom mobs when they're used to compliment an area and when they're more then just added potion effects or plain gear. Almost all the custom mobs I've added to my two mini maps had both positive and negative modifications to balance them out. A good example of this are the Rage Spider's (Cave Spider) in Arachnapocalypse.
Positives - They have a 100% drop rate of two iron ingots. Lowered base health so they die much quicker.
Negatives - The ingots have added sharpness and fire aspect so they cause the Rage Spider to do extra damage, ignite you on fire and poison you (Nasty combo). They had fire resist effects on them.
So in this example there was a lot of thought put into them, they're both complimentary to the map because they're themed and they have positive and negative aspects to them to balance them out, so they hit hard, but are rewarding to fight for their difficulty.

There's nothing to say you can't use the same mechanic as someone else, take it, modify it, make it similar but unique to your map.

Actually... Helicio above me here already had skelly boats in ragecraft two. They were just part of a small trap and not nearly an entire area, but he did make them before vechs ever thought of it.
SO technically you wouldn't be stealing his idea. If we were to go that rought a real troll could claim vechs stole it.

Well crap ... I was about to be a smartass and say that there are skeletons on ocelots in RC1 (Gruesome Zoo), but then I saw that your quote was over 2 months older than my map. You win this one, Vitto!
Well dang, I did that as a joke in one area too. There's literally one spawner, tucked away in a corner, because I thought it'd be funny.
YOU STOLE MY IDEA! THAT WAS COPYRIGHTED GIVE MONEY PLEASE!!!
Btw, I don't think custom mobs have to add new gameplay. Sure it's nice when done correctly, but just an armored zombie isn't bad design/laziness, it's a way to make areas harder without having to spam spawners.
I just don't like slaying a zombie more then 2 times if I have a sharpness V diamond sword...
Well, the fact that he was developing some Water Mobs was obvious.
He needs mobs to fill the Underwater dungeon thingy.
The fact that the mob is not a shark is cool too.
I'm hoping for a Jellyfish/Electric Eel. Crabs could be cool, too.
Thanks Jeb!
You know what I'm hoping for that would be REALLY cool?
Another creature entirely unique to minecraft, like the creeper. And with it being underwater, there would be lots of options...

Special thanks to Axl Rosie for the sig.

I really like the subtle style change.
