Is there any way to get Blazes to spawn in specific areas in a custom map, without using a blaze spawner? I want players of my map to have the possibility to get (rare) blaze spawns, but I don't want them to be able to set up a simple grinder to take advantage of a spawner.
According to the wiki, blazes will spawn naturally in nether fortresses, but when I look at an unmodified nether in BiomePainter, the fortresses are no different than the rest of the Nether (Biome: Hell). How do the blazes "know" they can spawn there?
I set up a big platform of nether brick, hoping that would get blazes to spawn. However, all I got was hundreds of pigmen. I kept flying away and coming back so they'd despawn, and while I got Ghasts and the occasional magma cube, I never ever got a blaze.
Am I stuck with using a spawner, or am I missing something?
What I want is an area where they *can* spawn, but not necessarily *do* spawn with any regularity. Also, they should not ever "run out" so dispensers are out of the question.
I opted to use a spawner, as it's the closest to what I need.
Blazes do spawn Naturally "Blaze spawners can be found only in Nether Fortresses, and will start spawning Blazes once the player gets within 16 blocks. The spawners have a chance of spawning 1-4 Blazes at once. Blazes can only spawn in light level 11 or lower (at the lower half of their body). Blazes can also spawn naturally elsewhere in Nether Fortresses." Quoted from Minecraft Wiki Blaze article under "Spawing"
I saw that in the wiki. I actually mentioned that in my first post.
My experience says otherwise, sadly. No matter how long I waited, I never ever saw a blaze naturally spawn in a fortress, nor could I find any way to establish a "fortress" area in a custom map.
I "solved the problem" with a blaze spawner. It wasn't ideal, but it was better than no blazes at all.
