This is a interesting concept and I am looking forward to seeing a second version of this. Good Luck :smile.gif:
And By the way, on the second day, I dug down and found a spawner and a huge natural mineshaft that ended up hitting regular land...Would that be considered cheating?
Just updated to version 1.1. It's a little more challenging than the first but still fun nonetheless. I reduced some of the intial resources and moved a few other things below. Everything in version 1.0 is still there, just more challenging to find.
I also added a series of challenges that you can earn 1 point each for completing, along with 4 hidden bonus challenges thrown in the mix. How well will you stack against your neighbor?
Version 2 will be in the works shortly once I get a few more things planned out and organized. Good luck and happy surviving!
I just got 1.0 just before 1.1 was released.I spent a good 6 hours building it up and find serveral goodies under the x.I took the dirt I dug from underground caverns and replaced all the sand with grass carefully.I then upgraded my house and created a wheat farm.Still need to grow some more trees, but I have plenty of saplings.Grass was still growing back when I took this.
Well, this has been pretty fun so far :biggrin.gif:

I haven't done too much yet, but I'm trying to keep my island looking like an island, instead of making it some ugly flat plain. This is some of what I've done so far;

And, to author!
For V2 I boted for 2-3 Small islands. I think though that they should be surrounded by Lava to prevent swimming to them, you would need to build a bridge or tunnel to reach them, and your starting island should have severly limited stuff, but the other 2, would be larger and with more resources.
I started 1.1, and couldn't figure out what the X was, so I expanded the island's dirt, got 4 seeds, and went to work making a mineshaft type thing for cobblestone. Eventually built up a stack of 15 iron and no coal. Eventually I found 1 dot of coal from a creeper explosion in a cave. I have since set up an underground base for hopes of finding more of this mythical item, but alas all I can do is return to the surface and collect wood. I did get a big break from an absolutely enormous tree that yielded 52 blocks of wood and 30 seeds.
Spent the first day digging out sand from under the patch of grass (to act as a roof) and made nice tall sand walls surrounded by cacti. for protection while I waited for my saplings to grow (now safely within my confines). Within the safety of my sand walls, I then set about making a sturdier homestead and once done, demolished the outer sandy-shell. Excavating some more soil as I dug out basement level after basement level, my rooftop garden grew with trees a plenty providing me with plenty of firewood to make plenty of glass from the stockpiles of sand I had amassed.
Slowly I replaced my the floors of my basement levels with the glass to let as much light down as possible and also to provide me an excellent view of the trees on my rooftop. It was obvious as soon as a sapling sprouted as the light levels would suddenly drop. The only thing I was really missing now was metal, so I started digging a large mineshaft and eventually, plentiful glowing red veins indicated I was nearing the limit.
In between mining as I dug up even more soil, I slowly terraformed the sand covered island into a grassy pasture with an orchard, hen house and grazing areas for new found wildlife.
I now have everything I really need in good supply - particularly food from my arboretum and if tired of that, I have a nice little veranda for fishing. The only thing I've been unable to find anywhere on or beneath this island are reeds....
One day I'm sure a boat will sail passed to rescue me. Though knowing my luck it will only end up caught in high seas and shipwreck me somewhere else with nothing to my name again. I can only hope that if that were to happen, then it might be somewhere slightly larger where there might be more darker corners to hunt and explore.

My Epic Tree & Reed Farm.
My Epic Cactus Farm
My Epic House
Y'know, all the dirt underground makes this so much easier, I place all the dirt next to the grass and I can increase my farming area!
