Someone could "extend" the island to land, maybe from wood since it replenishes. Would that be cheating? It would still be an island. Take this challenge. Escape without swimming/without a boat, build your way to the land!

The idea is you extend the island to earth. It would still be an island. Or you could just extend it anyway.
I had a spawn of 4 creepers on the first night, needless to say it involved a bunch of running and ducking behind the cactus.... **note to self, build a cactus wall**.
By night three I had found the skeleton spawner and after a few deaths, managed to lock it down and get a trap set up.

Day 1
I currently am flatting out the land with the sand to make it all one level, I found some coal as I was picking up grass, I relocated the Grass to an tree farm and replanted two trees from the one over to it, i replanted bamboo, Cacus as well.
Day 2
I have expanded my cacus farm by now it is about half way done to support the island, My trees still have not grown, The island is completely flat now, I redesigned the lighting rushly, My paper has also slightly expanded.
Day 6
I have spent a-lot of time working on my cactus gaurd's that I have made, I have only 11SAND left currently, And 11torchs, 38cobble stone, 64cactus and 4Bark, I have also totally removed the current tree farm and put it inside and i am able to farm 4 trees at an time now, I nearly died 2 times due to an creeper and also and skeleton riding an spider.
It's good to see that everyone is having fun! You guys have some great builds going on there.
I squared off my island and built a 36x36 sky trap (4- 16x16 pads), the loot is channeled to drop down below ground into my workshop where I get enough drops to make a stack of TnT every couple of days.
I'm currently working on ver 2 and would love to get some input on what you would like to see in the next one. A cluster of smaller islands? A couple of bigger ones? One medium sized one?
I'll probably put up a poll and see where it goes.
After playing the original Island Survival game created by wookie4747 (which can be found here in the archives) I was inspired to try and create my own.
The rules are fairly simple:
1. Don't leave the Island.
2. Play on at least Normal difficulty.
3. Bookmark the thread if you are serious about playing it.
4. Post pictures of your "achievements" with the number of days passed.
5. No hacking.
6. Have fun !
I voted for 2-3 small islands like similar size to the current island.
I think there should be a goal though because at the moment, I have way too much food and gold and iron resources it's getting to the stage where i've finished and it's a tad boring now.
I think possibly make it harder as well, maybe only start off with a tree sapling and 1 block of grass and make resources more sparse and harder to find.
I'd really like to help you building it, if you need any help just ask me.
Thanks for the feedback. As I said earlier, this was my first attempt at making something like this so hopefully they will be a bit more refined in future versions.
I do like the idea of scaling back on the resources, so maybe the next version will have one with normal resources, and a second similar map with the resources being more scarce.
I haven't been taking pics each day as my netbook kind of runs crappy if I have anything else running while I'm playing minecraft, but here's what my island is like after about 4 days.
This is the little island to the side with tree on it, that there is a new tree from the sapling I planted from the original tree. Took a couple of days to grow, but it finally has. I've also made a little dirt bridge from my main island to the mini one there, I'm hoping to get some grass growing on it.
This is the entrance to my house, it is protected by cacti, there's four in front of the door, I'm going to add more so that anything trying to get in will be funneled through the cacti.
This is the entrance to my mine, I haven't dug much yet, I'm waiting for more trees to grow so I can get more wood.
Speaking of trees, here's my other tree farm, I'm waiting for these ones here to grow, I've already had one pop up, hoping for another soon.
And lastly here's a couple of pics of the inside of my base, the first one is the bottom floor, with my crafting bench and furnace, and the second is upstairs, with my chest. I'll be adding more to it at a later date, probably extend downwards into my mine, to make things interesting.
This has been fun so far, and I will continue to play on this island on my netbook. I don't get much gaming time on this thing, but I'm enjoying the island! Thanks!

I would like to see different environment islands. Maybe some have some height to them, maybe some have depth. Would be interesting to spawn in a hole in the middle of the sea then come out after building/mining your way out and see islands with more resources. Not sure if that makes any sense, other wise I would vote for the multiple island one.
On a side note, gonna see if I can't get a group of friends in on this, maybe do it in multiplayer not sure... No spawning of course. Would eb interesting to see what my friends would do trapped on an island following those rules. Will update later if they decide to do it, if anyone is interested I might record it as well, not sure yet.
I voted for the 2-3 islands and I was thinking....that the second or third island is pretty much just a huge cave full of rescources but, (if you know how to work those map editors, which i have no clue whatsoever) that it would have lots and lots of mob spawners. As I have posted before I have a hard time getting the zombies and such to spawn on this one which shortly later I found out my game isnt messed up...just a dry streak.
