Hey everyone. This I my first post here and I'm apologizing I advance for how melodramatic and possibly cringey this whole post may sound, as I'm going to touch upon a subject very close to my heart.
So, let's start from the beginning. I started playing Minecraft when I was 8 years old back in 2012 on the Xbox 360. My father ordered the disc edition for my console and at first I actually disliked it's controls, as I was coming from a Wii and a double analog stick configuration was absolutely unknown to me.
But I kept on and one hour later, I was hooked. I distinctly remember building my first, absolutely horrible small 2X2 house around the bark of a tree. It was the first time I had felt such a feeling and that's when my love for sandbox games began.
Anyways, I kept on building as Creative mode bacame the only mode in Minecraft for me, but then with my sister, who was 6 at that time. We went on to great adventures, tamed animals, created bridges, expanded our house to a beautiful and complex structure inside a mountain of which the hallways are still carved into my memory.
Skyscrapers followed, underwater railways with glass panels for a roof, more houses for each of us with pools abd all kinds of shenanigans and we even created our own flag which we would construct at every piece of land we "conquered".
And after 3 years thof of building, all that stopped violently in an instant.
A quick visit to one of my "friends" at that time and a decision I still curse myself now in 2019 for, the fact that I placed my console vertically was enough to take all that away from us, as the disc was corrupted for good, never to open ever again.
That second of misjudgement lead to both me and my sister crying for weeks. I didn't want to have anything to do with video games anymore. I didn't want anything to do with Minecraft anymore. My 11 year old me stopped watching my favorite YouTuber at that time, Stampy and rejected all his past gaming childhood memories that he used to hold close to his heart and so dearly due to that, small mistake.
A year passed. My sister was just itching to play her favorite gane once again. I didn't even want to think about it. But, as small sisters always do, what she wanted became true and my parents re - purchased the game digitally again, for the Xbox 360.
That decision had both it's advantages and disadvantages.
I restarted playing my favorite game of all time, whixh I've purchased over 5 games in total until now. I created a new world, which has been in existance for 6 years and is saved as a backup in 5 different devices.
But, what probably happened with that download was that my original Minecraft world and files that were saved from the disk version were also replaced by the new game's files.
I still hope up to this day that isn't the case. Now, as a 15 year old and for all intents and purposes, a tech and video game freak, I have set off to try and restore those files. Of course such an endavor may seem absolutely impossible, absurd and unrealistic to most of you - and rightfully so, but I WOULD DO ANYTHING TO GET THAT WORLD BACK.
Absolutely anything. Again, to everyone who has gone this far while reading this (and if yes by the way thank you), this is the point that you may think I'm actually crazy to go this far for such a meaningless cause, but ithat's just me. I have always gotten way too attached with objects during my life that hold sentimental value.
I adore the Nintendo Wii because that was my first console.
I adore that world because it's the first thing I ever created for myself in this life. That world makes up an important part of my childhood, a sacred to period in the lives of many.
Now, to conclude this piece, if ANYONE of you knows anything that can possibly help me, please do. If anyone knows any advanced data recovery software, please provide them if possible. If anyone knows any really specialized tech tips that may be useful, PLEASE help me.
I may even have to re - create this whole world from scratch, block - by - block all over again if nothing I'll try works after all, as I remember almost every nook and cranny of that world, but it will never be the same no matter what.
That's why, please, help me I any way you possibly can to regain that part of my childhood that I lost so many years ago. If you can't though, I seriously THANK YOU for reading this post, which I hope it provides maybe even another perspective of what how a video game can change the world - the real world - of child forever.
Get your hands on a disc. It's possible that the disc and the digital version have different savegames. When you put in the disc it will either pull up your old saves or your new saves, if it pulls up your new saves then you're correct and your saves have been overwritten, if not then you have access to your old saves again.
If you still have the old disc, consider taking it to a local games store as they can often repair them. The exact same thing happened to me with a copy of MW3 and it was fairly inexpensive to fix.
If they have been overwritten, it may be possible to recover them by taking the console apart and hooking the hard drive up to a computer so you can browse its contents. Once you're there you can probably try any data recovery software (here's a list) but you'd have to do some more research into what file format saves are stored in to find them.
If you can't find them with that, you could look into data recovery companies in your area as they often have more extensive methods. That can get pricey though so it may not be the best solution.

Thank you so much my friend.
