On random nights, the moon rises blood red, drawing out more and more powerful monsters. They will hunt you. They will find you. Do you have what it takes to survive?
Loosely based on the blood moon concept found in Terraria, Minecraft mods, and command block modules, this datapack gives a new meaning to the term "survival" in survival Minecraft. In playtesting this I couldn't survive 3 minutes with full Protection IV diamond gear, fully decked out sword, bow, and shield, and enchanted golden apples. The only way I could survive was by turning and running!
Every night there is a 1 in 9 chance that it will be a Blood Moon
At dusk, a chat message will appear in red reading "The blood moon is rising..." to every player (above or below ground)
During that night, a red aura will appear for every player (above or below ground)
Mobs will randomly be buffed. The probability that they will be buffed increases with game time
Mobs will randomly spawn near each player in the overworld, ignoring mob cap and light limitations
Players cannot sleep during a blood moon
Features I may or may not add:
Blood moon nights chosen randomly instead of once every 10 nights - Added in version 0.7.0
Blood moon nights cannot occur on the night of a new moon
Feel free to suggest more!
Features I won't add:
Only mobs that spawn above ground are buffed (doing this would probably cause a lot of excess server load i.e. "lag")
Mobs will only spawn nearer to players that are above ground (doing this would probably cause a lot of excess server load i.e. "lag")
Red aura will only show for players above ground (not possible in multiplayer using current method, would probably cause a lot of excess server load i.e. "lag")
The moon actually turns red on the night of a blood moon. This is not possible in Vanilla, as far as I know. Yes, a resource pack can make the moon red, but then it would be red every night and not just on blood moon nights.
All buffed mobs have fire resistance and a much higher follow range
Creepers have a chance of
being charged,
having double health, or
moving 40% faster and having a 50% shorter fuse
Endermen have a chance of having double health and regeneration
Phantoms have a chance of being larger (which means they do more damage) with 150% more health
Skeletons have a chance of having
double health, Power IV Punch I bows and Harming II arrows,
20% faster speed, Power V Punch I bows and weakness arrows, or
Power IV Punch I bows and Wither II arrows
Slimes have a chance of being (much) larger, which means it takes more splits before they reach minimum size and can really die
Spiders have a chance of having double health, knockback resistance, and dealing 50% more damage
Witches have a chance of having double health
Zombies, Husks, and Drowned have a chance of having double health, 30% faster speed, and dealing 75% more damage
Would love if it was random! Great pack! Also, you could probably use a resourcepack for the color, which would be optional.
Maybe every 25 days (Minecraft tracks days, not sure if its possible to utilize that via datapacks)
It would also be nice to be able to disable slimes spawning... they destroy crops and its very annoying.
I'm actually having an issue with the current version of this datapack where slime spawning goes through the roof and lags out the game. I'm investigating it now. It's possible that I may have to stop buffing slimes in the way I am currently.
Thank you! This Datapack is near optimal, the only other criticism is the mobs spawning in a radius around players, would love if there was an option like the slimes to make mobs ONLY spawn naturally, obviously still buffed. It's very annoying to have mobs spawn in safe areas that they should not be able to spawn in. Thanks again!
Hey I really like this datapack! It's super fun to fight harder mobs, especially with other people on the server. Though I've seemingly have had a really low chance of actually getting a bloodmoon to happen, it's only happened twice. I was wondering if it was possible to add a trigger to make the following night a blood moon or possibly to change the chance of a bloodmoon happening?

Update coming soon.
I have updated the pack to version 0.7.1. Rough changelog:
