Welcome to my first real adventure map that I've ever felt confident enough to release, Golden Continent: Rise of the Dark Forces! This map is a Zelda-inspired adventure through the mystical land of "Haverna". This map is currently in Version 1.0, but it's currently in the long process of remaking it in its entirety.
This map is currently meant specifically for a single-player experience, but a multi-player version of the map is coming sometime after the entirety of the single-player version of the map is finished.
Story:
Long ago, there was a deadly worldwide famine, which decimated much of the world's population, and wars were waged over the only remaining food supplies in the world. One day, the whole world was in complete awe when a new continent was discovered. It contained vast, open landscapes of fertile soil, and many freshwater springs. It was dubbed the "Golden Continent" by those living at that time. Now with a new fertile continent discovered, even more horrible wars were waged over who would rule this new continent and practically control the whole world's food and water supply. One nation won the battle, led by a man named King Haver, and this "Golden Continent" was officially named Haverna, after the king who conquered it. With the continent being ruled over by one nation, the world's food supply was in the hands of King Haver, but he couldn't stand the thought of the world being starved to death. With that thought in mind, he gave up half of the newly discovered continent to the other nations who waged wars over it, and commonly gave food to the other nations that weren't a part of the "Golden Continent." Ten years after King Haver conquered Haverna, the nearly worldwide famine finally ended, and tensions were heavily lowered among the nations. With King Haver in rule of half of the "Golden Continent," the following times were very peaceful.
After a few years, a mysterious portal to another dimension opened up in the sky and shook the nation with a mighty earthquake. Powerful monsters began raining down from the portal, and they began attempting to conquer the nation. A new threat was upon Haverna, the "Golden Continent," and the entire world. The invaders came from a dimension that King Haver described, lazily, as the "Dark Dimension". After numerous failed attempts at pushing back the evil invaders, Haver called upon a hero to go into the portal and stop the invaders from the inside. A great hero was found who possessed a mighty blade known as the Firina Blade. This mighty blade was the only one of its kind that could easily slay the evil invaders from the Dark Dimension. With the portal closed, and the invaders destroyed, the hero returned to Haverna, but he died shortly after from an unknown illness.
This may be the Golden Continent's history, but our story is in the present time, around 50 years later. You, a farmer named Myde living in a village near the edge of Haverna, are one day greeted with a letter in your mailbox to visit your village's mayor. With ambition for being more than just a farmer in your heart, you accept the invitation and head to the mayor's building in hopes of a task to do besides your farming job. The story continues inside of the map.
Locations/Screenshots:
You will have to go through many diverse locations to save Haverna from these "Dark Forces" (though these screenshots are all from V1.0). Here's some screenshots of a few of them:
(unfortunately, tinypic deleted these images, I will update them when I release the next version)
Version 1.1 Preview Screenshots:
Screenshots of the upcoming versions of the map:
DISCLAIMER: These areas are subject to major/slight change when I feel it necessary.
1: Download your preferred file type.
2: Go to your Windows button and in the search bar, type "%appdata%. (For Windows— sorry Mac and Linux users, I don't have a Mac or Linux machine, and I do not know how to install MC maps for your systems!)
3: Go to your ".minecraft" folder.
4: Go to your "saves" folder.
5: Place map folder in "saves". If it is a ".zip" folder, extract normally and remove the old compressed folder. If it is a ".rar" type file, extract it using any program you prefer for extracting ".rar" file types (I recommend 7zip or WinRAR's free trial if it is a ".rar" file).
6: Open up Minecraft, make sure you're on the latest update of Minecraft and play the map!
Future Changelog:
(Note: The changelog is revised every once and awhile to include new features that I might have come up with while building!)
Version 1.1 Alpha: -Remake Phase 1- (To be released sometime eventually!)
-First stage of my "remaking phase" of the map. Will include a remade version of the first half of the map through the second dungeon (now the Forest Temple).
Version 1.1 Beta: -Remake Phase 2-
(To be released eventually, but after Version 1.1 Alpha!) -Pretty much re-making the rest of the map, but some things will remain the same. (Many things will be drastically changed, but certain areas will remain completely the same if I thought that it was completely fine in the original version.) Will Include the second half of the map from the Sky Temple to the Dark Dimension fortress.
Version 1.1 Full: -The Big Update-
(To be released eventually, but after Version 1.1 Beta!)
-A continuation of the story, rather than further remaking the map!
-Three brand new areas: Seapoint Cove, the Forlorn Desert, and the Snowlands.
-Three brand new story-line dungeons that will be more difficult than previous dungeons (Pirate Shipwreck, which is short but has plenty of swashbuckling combat; Desert Fortress, which is a blending of combat and some puzzles; and the Frozen Factory, which is primarily composed of difficult puzzles).
-Mini-dungeon: Withered Tree
-Three story-line mini-dungeons, which give access to the primary dungeon of their area.
-Other challenges and areas that utilize some different features of Minecraft.
-Many brand new side quests that make the map feel alive.
Version 1.2: -The Final Update-
(To be released eventually, but after Version 1.2!)
-Final story segment of the map.
-Two new dungeons, including Mount Olrin, which is a volcano-themed dungeon.
-Finishing touches on the scenery and general looks of the map.
-Mini-dungeon: Puzzle House
-Mini-dungeon: Acacia Mansion
-Mini-dungeon: Haunted Well.
Version 1.0: [Download for V1.0, just in case I accidentally delete it later!: ZIP (Mediafire) and RAR (Mediafire)]
-Released.
Extra Notes:
Thank you everyone, for helping this map reach 205+ downloads! It means a lot to me that people are enjoying this map!
Thanks to the people who have downloaded and played the map and especially to the two channels that have played through the map for YouTube. You made my day back when that first happened
AS OF MAY 10, 2020, I have resumed development on the map. Continued updates are happening on my personal blog as I make new announcements and developer updates. I'm committed to putting Version 1.1 Alpha out eventually!
It looks great, but Im gonna wait for version 1.1. :-)
haha that's fine. It will just include the 1st dungeon of the second half and finished areas before the other 2 dungeons. hopefully it will be out next month.
EDIT: Also, the 1.2 version is a loooooooong way away, so yeah, 1.1 will be the way to go next.
Development continues! I'm nearing a new Alpha release of Version 1.1 which will have the first half of the map remade completely to be not so lackluster. Sure, it's about 5 years late, but I'm glad to finally be back and working on the map nonetheless.
EDIT: As of August 23, 2020, I'm making very good progress and learning how to implement more complicated command block wizardry into the map, including a custom spider boss made of blocks that moves around the room periodically. I've also added an upgrade system for weapons and armor to the map, but the extent of the system won't be apparent until the full version of 1.1 comes out. I'm hoping to complete the alpha version of the map by the end of the year so that I can move onto the full version, but knowing myself, that may or may not happen. Either way, stay tuned if you're still interested in this project.
EDIT: As of January 3, 2021, V1.1 Alpha is almost complete. I am confident that I can now say that it's "Coming Soon" and not just eventually. I will probably make a new WIP map page for this, however, since this page was made 5 years ago and is considerably outdated.
