You could always have the player spawn on top of a chest with a single piece of dirt and and an acorn inside. Lol.
I'll think about this in the future, but the main issue is that if people fail to download Ex Nihilo, then the acorn will disappear and they will have to download the map again.
For those of you who use mods that screw up the ability to use birch wood in crafting recipes, I have added a modified version for each of the maps where an oak tree is substituted for the birch one.
I think you should add some more challenges. Maybe an "Age of Diamond" and an "Age of Gold". Diamond could include: Make a full set of diamond armour, make a set of diamond tools (including hoe) and have a full stack of obsidian. Age of gold could be time-based challenges. how quickly can you get from 0-60 (block height, that is) or how quickly can you get a stack of cobblestone from a single generator.
Rain seems to be disabled at least in the normal version, I tried using NEI to turn rain on and it didnt start, then enabled cheats (Can be done simply by opening world to LAN and enabling cheats there) And doing /toggledownfall, after wich it rained for a fraction of a second before stopping

I can't seem to replicate the problem.
Which map are you using?
Is it possible that you have a mod installed that disables weather?
Map has been updated:
-Now supports the new void generation that's part of Ex Nihilo.
-Only one version now, one version to rule them all.
Having many versions was too confusing. The easy version was too easy, and the Hardcore version was not very popular.
-The island now spreads across three biomes: Jungle, Taiga, and Plains.
Is it possible to create a cobblegen without using a bucket? I don't see anything about placing lava/water from crucibles/barrels on the post, but the order of the challenges seems to suggest that it is.
I don't believe it is possible, I just mixed up the order of the challenges. The main post has been edited to fix the order.
Do you mind if I use parts of your Maps as Schematics to make a World Gen mod for this? (The mod would have you go to Options like Super Flat and change it to Ex Nihilo which this would be). I would make it so the Nether was Void except the platform you spawn on and Nether Fortresses as well as the End would be a Jump Challange (1x1 Platforms but infinite so you can find the Ender dragon but its still just as dangerous as a 5x5).

Of Course!
(meaning I don't mind)
It would be awesome to have an in game option for map generation
Age of Stone
Craft a bucket Make a crucible Make an infinite water source
Make a cobblestone generator
Make a mycelium mushroom farm
Create a mooshroom
Power a crucible with netherrack
Age of Redstone
Using a splash potion of weakness, cure 2 zombie villagers
Set up a village
Trade with the villagers
Set up an Iron Golem Farm
Locate a slime chunk and set up a slime farm
Automate your existing farms
Create a vanilla sorting system
Age of Exploration
Build a Nether portal and travel to the nether
How do i get/make a blaze rod for the potions? before going to the nether, or after since there wont be any fortresses in the nether?
I am just besides myself on this map. Seriously, it rocks!
I have just played on here for several hours today, and as a veteran SkyBlock user this is by far the hardest Minecraft experience I've ever had to face. I'm playing it with Ex Nihlo, but it is definitely tricky.
The largest problem I've faced so far is that somehow my spawn location changed to somewhere out in the middle of nowhere. I used MCEdit to try and put it back on the main island, but what I think happened is that I built a structure at the spawn location... so it randomly threw me somewhere else. I think that also broke some other stuff as normal chunks started to be generated. I'm going to start all over again anyway as my plan is for a Let's Play video series on this map.... I was just doing a quick run through to get myself established for the first couple of nights.
A pity too, as I had just built a very sizable melon and potato farm (a couple of seeds I got from sifting some dirt).
Anyway, high kudos from me, and too bad I haven't noticed this map earlier. It is definitely giving me some interesting ideas about minimalistic maps.

-Jungle
-Swamp
-Ice Plains
-Ocean

Make a furious doll and put it in a barrel of lava. Make sure you use a stone barrel.
oh very nice, thanks
it would have been nice if you had mentioned that IT SPAWNS A BLAZE in the middle of my largly wood based island

Version 2.1 now updated for MC 1.6.2
