2 days on pancake. I've only been chopping down trees. this is how much wood I have:
By the way, it's a great map! (even though I haven't even played for an hour) I haven't killed any mobs yet though.
First noticed that the first wouldn't transfer from the where I got it to my inventory AND from there to my chest with shift-left click. Same with the second and then when I set the second diamond ON the first in the chest and the number 2 didn't show up. Stopped fooling with that map then, closed it installed a new copy to test with, set it to creative and it did the same thing.
This afternoon after shutting down last night I opened the old map, took them out and spread out about eight across the inventory so I started throwing them away until I had the 2 I started with. NOW for some reason they stack fine and show up with the 2.

The definition of Insanity is, doing EXACT the same thing over and over again expecting things to change... THAT is crazy.

I haven't had time to check it out, but I wonder if this has something to do with how I placed the diamonds in the chests. I didn't do it in Minecraft, but in MCEdit.
If I can recreate the problem, I'll wipe out the chests and re-place them manually in Minecraft.
Has anybody else found the diamonds yet? If so, are you having a similar problem?
a sky mob trap that is currently making me goodies, just waiting on iron ingots.
Ok I'll give you this piece of advice...if the mobs are simply falling to their death or other means of death which does not give you exp...you will NOT get any iron whatsoever! all you will get are arrows, bones, string, gunpowder, and rotten flesh...you must kill them yourself and thus get exp for you to get iron ingots/shovels/swords/carrots/potatoes from zombies...bows from skeletons, and spider eyes from spiders!

Yup that's why the max fall drop they have is between 21-23. Leaves all hostlie mobs except enders at around one or two hits with a stone sword. Enders take about 4-5. I filter out spiders with half slabs to break up large spwaning areas. I build a seperate trap for spiders.
I got 3 iron bars, 6 differnt parts of armor, 8 enchanted bows, 2 iron swords, 6 carrots, 4 potatoes, 4 records,18 ender pearls, and 2 iron shovels in about 3 game hours. And piles of arrows, bones, gun powder, zombie meat. And level 60+.
All of that for ONE bucket, the last ingot litteraly showed up about 2 hours and 50 minutes. I love this game.

Make sure you have at least one open slot in your hotbar inventory (where you can wield stuff)
Hit ESC.
Click "Open To LAN"
Click "Allow Cheats: OFF" to turn it ON.
Click "Start LAN World"
Then hit "T" to open the terminal window.
Type /gamemode creative
Hit ESC to exit terminal mode
Hit "E" to go into inventory
Scroll down the list to find diamonds. You can also hit "T" here and then type "diamond" to filter
Drag one (or two, or however many you have lost) diamonds to your hotbar
Hit ESC to leave inventory
Hit "T" for the terminal again
Type /gamemode survival
You may also want to quit the map and reload it to turn off LAN mode.
When I fix the map and release 1.2, I'll put these instructions in the first post. Hopefully the fixed version will be up before the morning (in the US) and I'll remember to not edit chests in MCEdit in the future.
this is my third retry and i'm determined for it to be my last. this map (along with oceanblock!) is really addicting. i hope we see some more maps of yours in the (near) future

I have no concrete plans, though someone mentioned starting in a sea of lava and I've got some ideas along those lines.
Another day, another round of monster bashing to get the precious iron...
I'm curious ... what's the avarage time needed to get the three ingots? Maybe I'll have to check out some nice monster trap designs without water too, since this is driving me crazy...
Right now I have more than two stacks of gunpowder, bones and arrows, 4 ender pearls and a nice skeleton dropped some golden shoes with fire protection 1 on them. But so far, no iron at all
Why do you need 3 ingots? In my test, I got my first blaze rod before I got my first iron ingot.
And yes, I had a (very clunky, but serviceable) cobblestone generator
I stumbled across this map, and decided to try it out. All i can say to anyone else thinking so; don't.
I've been playing this map for 3 hours now. I've spent a good few nights doing nothing but hunting zombies, yet i have not gained ANY progress. The entire start is based off of getting iron, which is a rare drop from zombies with a 0.04% chance to drop if you kill one.
I'm sorry, but a map based around luck is not hard; it's just a grind.
I'm sorry for your hard time, but the map is not designed around luck. You do NOT need iron to light the Nether portal. I gave you the flint as a bonus, in case you got iron before you could get the portal lit via other means.
Other means, such as? The only way to light a portal is by fire, or (supposedly, never seen it happen since portals were introduced) an explosion. Seeing how i have been unable to spread any fire from the single lava, and i am not allowed to let myself be killed (even in a creeper blast), how can i light the portal within the rules of your map?
So as to not spoil others:
Place your portal right next to, and facing, the lava. You can put it on the dirt or embed it into the dirt, both work. From the top, your portal/lava should look like this:
<-Portal frame <-Dirt floor with lava Stack planks on the other side (the portal inside is 2 wide and the lava is only 1 wide). Stack them all the way up to the top of the portal (3 or 4, depending on if your portal is in the ground or on top of it) <-Portal frame <-Dirt floor with lava and planks stacked 3-4 high
Then cover the back side of the portal with wood planks as well. DO NOT PUT ANY PLANKS INSIDE THE PORTAL FRAME.
<-Dirt floor, with planks blocking the back side of the portal. <-Portal frame <-Dirt floor with lava and planks stacked 3-4 high
After not too long, the lava will light the front stack of planks on fire. Sometimes, the fire will go out and you'll have to replace the planks. Most of the time, though, the fire will try to jump through the portal to the back planks, and the portal will light.
Now, it sucks that your portal has a lava doorstep, but once you get villagers you can trade for a diamond pickaxe and move that portal anywhere you want. By then, you should have plenty of iron to relight it in a normal way. Alternatively, you can move the lava somewhere more convenient at that time.

I think making constructive suggestions to a map creator on what you think would improve a map or even a request for assistance on an issue you are having with a map is much more helpful to everyone than simply telling us to avoid the map. You certainly have the right to your own opinion, but you run the risk of coming across as unnecessarily negative. Personally, I like to avoid that outcome as map creators are putting something out there for others to enjoy, and while some maps are less successful than others, it's still time and creative energy expended on the minecraft community and should therefore be handled with a little more consideration. I hope I don't sound preachy! I just really value the time and effort spent by players willing to create these maps for our enjoyment and so I wanted to mention it.

Would you really rather have bees that make diamonds and oil with magical genetic blocks?
... did I really ask that?

One of the challenges is to breed villagers so they'll make iron golems.
(no spoilers from me either on how to do so)

I should have tested further, but once I got blaze rods, I figured everything of worth had been tested. Obviously I was wrong!

I should make you play to find out, but click below if you really want to know.
No. The biomes are pretty much exactly like the rest of the world. They are there simply so you have access to snow and some unique animal spawns.
